Liv, how do you know that the age is incorrect. What is on the band? It looks like he is wearing a gold ring, which were issued in 1994, 2000 and 2006. It would be strange that a breeder would put a 1994 ring on a bird that was bred in 2004. Feathers. Hey Feathers, Here is a link to the topic that worked out BG's age Here

hahaha looks like he cant see!!! :hap: "HENS!!! WHERE??? I don't see any hens " He has a very nice crest - i bet he won a prize or 10 hehehe
  4. Looks like you got a good deal.. some products can be very $$ Worming - i do it every 3 months and I worm any newcomers to my flock before they enter the aviary. Mite Spay - only use when mites are on your bird - its a treatment not a preventative I persoanlly dont use vitamin & mineral supplement as its already in the seed i buy - I know many who use vitamin & mineral supplements in the water etc And finally the cage cleaner - i haven't used it, but being a spray I would make sure yuor birds are well away from you when you are cleaning Hope this helps a little

  12. I love Elephants!! They are adorable - we dont have any here at the moment in Adelaide zoo :hap: Speeking of great photos.... love your new avatar Birdluv - MMMMmmmmeeeeeoooooooowwwwww hehehe :hap:
  13. So does that mean that the dusks and slates are not mixed with a grey gene????
  14. They are AWESOME photos!!! i LOVE the baby giraffe
  15. I am not very good with genetics... I have a grey spangle too and i ahve been told to find him a Yellow Faced hen in order to get Yellow Faced grey chicks. So your pair will possibly do that. It also depends on the hidden/split genetics your birds have - it can be quite hard to tell what will pop out of the eggs I'm sure one of the genetic savvy breeders will be by to help you out more soon
  16. Looks great! I hope they enjoy it
  17. I had the same issue last year where the male was trying to get the hen to lay a 3rd round of eggs. She was tired as they are only meant to have 2 clutches in a row. He was a very good dad so i removed the hen to let her rest and the male finished raising their 5 chicks Even though they were a few meters apart (in seperate aviaries), they would still talk to each other and they maintained their bond. after her rest I put them back together - they were like long lost lovers - kissing, feeding and preening - it was very sweet to watch budgies are very good parents and do almost anything to ensure the survival of their young :fear
  18. Any budgies will make a good couple - it just depends on what you want from them My only question is... is your hen a HEN - she looks male from this angle.... Also... What is your set up like??? can you post a picture of the cage please.
  19. three things you can do.... 1) Provided the male is just trying to mate and not being aggressive to the hen or the young, Just leave them and remove any new eggs that are laid and then remove the box when the chicks have fledged. 2) Because he is a good dad you can remove the hen so she can have a rest and let the male finish raising the young. 3) Remove the male and let the female finish the raising. Because the chicks are not really young all three choices could work. it mostly depends on the health and temperament of the birds and what you think they will be able to cope best with
  20. It is quite common for a male to want to mate before the chicks have fledged. How old are the chicks??
  21. Sounds like an awesome dream I dont know about pygmy budgies but i have heard that the native australian wild budgie is about 4 1/2 inches long from top of its head to the tip of it's tail - thats smaller than my canary :hap: Oh, and yes you could selectively breed smaller budgies - just the reverse of breeding bigger ones
