  1. Yes, your little bird is sick I'm so sorry. I think probably should try and get into the vet tomorrow. For now your little bird needs warmth - use a light with a 25-40 watt globe to provide heat. I am not very experienced with sick birds, hopefully the others will be able to help you out soon
  2. can those nasty little suckers get though a budgies feathers in the first place.. ..?????
  3. I personally prefer the black cage... they look cool and you can see your birds clearer. It also allows the birds to see out better too, hence they can take longer to settle in...

Sorry Liv , I probably didn't make that very clear, it is human baby food. I just wasn't sure whether being such a small amount and just flavour it would be harmfull. As for potato, I know that raw is bad, but how do people feel about cooked, not on its own, but say a small amount mixed with veggies? Ahhh... Human baby food (there is budgie baby foods too hehe) Thats a really good idea... I dont know anything about it so I look forward to others responses
  5. Well the heat wave broke yesterday and we are now having normal weather again (Still no rain though) Anyway i just wanted to thank you all for your help and support. All my budgies made it though the sweltering heat without any problems I am so releaved that it's all over and all my birds are well The only one who couldn't handle the heat was my canary, he had to spend the entire time inside under the airconditioning
  6. if your budgie was really old i would say its normal old age.... my Whitie sat like that ALL day and night napping, but she was 14 years old... To me it sounds like your little bird could be unwell.... how are it's poops? is the breast bone sharp? do you have any pictures?
  7. okay... Time for an update All three are dominant pieds. Here is the oldest chick - she has black markings and a tiny hint of sky blue. Chick number 2 is a cinnamon (just like Kaz predicted ) Lil chick number 3 has plum eyes so will probably be a cinnamon too

If you have a look in the FAQ there is a list of unsafe foods...... Here ....and onion is one of them - tut tut budgie food making company
  9. I can not even begin to understand what it would be like to loose birds like that - I'm so sorry for your loss Andrew Well it looks like there is no play time for Bing and Chirpy - And their cages need to be at least 5 meters apart to prevent the spread illness though dust. On the bright side i hope you and Bing have a fantastic Easter long weekend away
  10. They WORKED She is a lovely Hen... I am unsure of the name of her type - she looks a bit like an Opaline dilute but I'm not really sure. Your right, she is very pretty :budgiedance:
  11. Hello and welcome. Trilby sounds lovely :budgiedance: I hope you can get your pictures up okay
  12. Sorry for your loss :budgiedance: 11 years, thats a ripe old age for a budgie - well done
  13. I am going to argue this a little.... I do agree with Kaz with the importance of quarantine.... however i cant see how two birds who have been living alone for over 30 days would be any more risk to each other than a bird from a pet shop that has just come out of quarantine.... wouldn't any signs of illness come out (if there were any) in their initial move home, thus proving they are both healthy???? :budgiedance:
  14. Can do, but I will have to find some "spare time" Hey Kaz, you can have some of mine.... I have waaaaay tooo much spare time on my hands - I'd be happy to share -- it will only cost you a YF opaline (or 2 hehehe)

  20. hehehe you maxed out the photo limit hehehe - Love it They are all ADORABLE babies BUT... Could you Pleeeease post me your "Cinnamon YF2 Df spangle bub" when s/he is old enough :P
  21. It's really hard to say. it will mostly depend on the individual temperament of each bird... i don't think budgies are teratorial creatures, I have never had any new members of my flock fight when they enter the aviary so i cant see that there would be any problems letting them play together... i would recommend keeping them in their own cages when not playing. It will make your budgie feel more comfortable about his short holiday accommodation's

The heatwave has finally broken today!! We had our first day under 40*C in 3 weeks and it was a lovely mild day of 31*C . Becase of the rageing heat (that makes me want to faint when out in it for more than 10 minuites), i have not done my weekly routine clean out of my aviary during that time - bad me Anyways, i got stuck into it today and it was a mess... because i misted the budgies daily the spilt seed and poop on the floor had caked together to make a hard cement like layer over the pavers (YUK : ) I was on my hands and knees scraping it off with a spatular(DOUBLE YUK : ).... i really dislike budgie mess (love everything else about them though ) - it's lovely and clean again now - phew okay, I'm getting to the point hehe.... I was thinking, is budgie poop any good composted down and used as fertaliser in the garden???
