    YAY!!!
  2. Sorry for your loss I had an old hen who decided to lay an egg out of the blue. She got egg bound with prolapse (uterus came out of her vent) and she was immediately put to sleep by my vet. It's very sad and traumatic for all :hap: This is the best place to be for any future problems
  3. They are AWESOME photos!!! I love in-flight photos!! what camera do you use ?
  4. I'm So sorry
  5. Long post warning hehe Our Hot arrid australia.... Flinders Rangers National Park (6 hours drive north Of Gawler) And again... Travel anouther hour north and you come to this..... nothing Dry farming land near my house Pretty landscape also near my home The last time it rained - december 07 and we haven't had a drop since.... The dead grass is still dead and the little hedge we were trying to grow is dead now too. $350 on the spot fine if we get caught watering our gardens. Beach about 15 mins from our house - lovely shallow warm water. its perfect for our young kids to play in, and there is no risk of rips or sharks Sunset over Semaphore Beach last week
  6. I use Castor oil. treat morning and night. use a cotton tip, lightly dab oil on the affected area. careful not to get the oil in the nostrils etc. I'd do it for about 3 days then repeat again in 2 weeks. good luck
  7. It is only the main flight feathers that will stop her from flying. these feathers are about 2-3 inches long.
  8. They look the same to me It's a very pretty colour
  9. okay....you need to urgently stop the losing body fluids thing. The sulpha meds will do that and then go to the vets when they are open next. But in a smaller cage with a warm lamp nearby for now and the sulpha meds in the water. Wont hurt. Good point Kaz. I knew wild bird poop can be bad, but unless the bird got in the aviary i couldn't see how any poop would get in the aviary to infect the budgies. How could I forgot that many aviarys have open wire roofs for wild birds to poop though - They can't do that to mine though (phew!!)It is commonly believed that pigeons can poop through the face of an aviary by pooping as they fly towards or away from the aviary or cage. Many breeders will roof an aviary with a large overhang to prevent this. I have an entire pergola and house protecting the face of my aviary hahaha. i know.... Kaz is right. better to be safe then sorry Petshops will be closed today... but good bird dealers are normally open everyday. hope you find one near by.

  11. I doubt the pigeon would be a factor... Is she molting and lost any flight feathers? this can give them troubles flying for a short while. Budgies can fly perfectly fine when making an egg and her poops would be about 4 x the size of normal if she were about to lay. Is she fluffed and have that "sick-bird-look" Is she acting any differently (other than her lack of flight??)
  12. I agree with the Opaline Cinnamon As for his colour - wow, very pretty! Perhaps a violet with some grey gene in there too???? What colour are his cheek patches???
  13. Do you have any photos??? Hmmm The watery poop could be stress related.... How big is the cage she has been in??? the not flying well could be muscle weakness due to being in a small cage for an extended period of time.. She could also be over weight and too heavy to fly.... Check her breast bone and see if there is some "meat" there. if its sharp she might be unwell. if it's really padded she might need to go on a diet
  14. I have seen my fair share of yucky dark 'ringed' looking eggs with my cockaties. These eggs are still looking white and not "rotten". I really hope they hatch - but even more so i hope that atleast 1 chick is BG's!!!! **Fingers, toes, legs, eyes crossed**
  15. This is also a male.... His cere is a dark pinky brown - he looks even more like a hen in real life. It can all get very confusing with DF and Recessive pieds
  16. That's what I thought Back to the drawing board - will have to find a hen....... I love a good excuse to get MORE birds hehehhe Good luck in your hen search!
  17. Thats a great idea Sadly I dont have any sitting hens though . my 3 hens are all busy with young chicks now. The weather is very hot here. It's been 40*C for the last 4 days and the next week it's forcast to be between 36 and 40. Do you think the eggs will be warm enough if the hen isn't sitting on them during the day??
  18. I took the photo today and the unhatched eggs are untouched as you can see I normally leave the eggs alone for quite some time because i dont record when they where layed etc. I know these ones wont hatch now though, so what do i look for when i open them??? If you are absolutely sure they wont hatch...break them open to see if they were "clear" eggs or ones with chicks that have died in shell. It looks like you have two clear eggs there and the other two may have chicks in them. Depending on the age of the two in the nest...there may still be hope for the two remaining fertile eggs ....fingers crossed ....maybe ? The chicks are 7 and 8 days old... If there is a chance they could still hatch... then i will leave them for now

  20. In the end only the 2 chicks hatched - 4 didn't It's really odd because this hen only EVER has 2 chicks at a time Anyway here they are. one is 8 days old and the other is 7 days. The older one looks like it will be a dominant pied. Dont know about the younger one.. cant see any black markings yet... perhaps a baby spangle **Fingers Crossed ** If BG is not the dad of the older one then these are the other two possibilities: This is the Hen and her original partner (Buster) - but after their "rest" he was disinterested in her. He however has the same "spot" on the top of his head, as the older chick. :grbud: This is the pair who produce Cinnimon chicks. He is the other possible dad. he was quite interested in my little hen after the "rest"... but he is currently fathering 5 chicks to the opaline hen you see here (her last clutch before she retires in the oldies home hehehe). These two have had about 15 babies so far had 3 Cinnamons. Why would i not get one single opaline from these two
  21. Great site :grbud: I really want a new camera too. I only use my phone camera at the moment. i event though it is really handy because i can take it with me everywhere, it doesn't take the quality photos a 12-15mp SLR would take
  22. They are both so very pretty I have a boy who looks very similar to Steele. Bih Lin, her colours are so lovely...She wouldnt be an YF opaline pied???? Just gorgeous!!!, i really like her best of luck with their eggs. they will have very pretty babies
  23. http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg219/b...arlieBenny1.jpg Charlie looks Cinnimon (brown wing markings) in this picture. Are the markings on his wings black like Benny's or more brown???
  24. Charlie is a mature adult boy - not a baby though.... He looks very nice and i see he is waring a blue ring on his leg. this will have the year he hatched on it Benny - is a cute Yellow Face type 2 Normal Sky Blue ( a mouth full hehehe) I cant tell Gender, need a closer picture. Looks to be male, but cant be sure. Charlie is about 10-14 weeks old and going through a first molt Your cage is a great size The perches are better running from front to back to give them more room to fly. I have just noticed that Benny has a leg ring too. That will also give you his year of hatching
