Oh dear, what disastrous news. Yes we have all learnt the "pet shop" lesson, and quiet franquilly(however you spell it) i believe that the pet shop business should be wiped from the business system itself, and just have the private breeder's to sell their bird's and leave it at that, cause myself and ALOT of people have just about had enough of these so called "experienced" pet shop owners and their dis-concern for any living thing in the shop sorry for the outrage but im sure other's feel the same way
  2. i see, thanks for the info mate. ive really only got 1 "long" showtype, and he's 7 yrs old, so he's only in the aviary to watch all the young blokes get the chicks while he sits their and does his thing hahaha. although he has a little lutino hen playing with him and grooming him, hope they dont breed though, cause he's too old He doesnt think he's too old I'll bet. I have heard of budgie cocks being Dads at 9,10, and 14 years of age. Dont write him off too soon haha, okay well he's in their till the day he dies and hes a beautiful light blue cinnamon so he's a nice specimen and he has the size in him, if he breed's then ill let him do his business

  4. from personal experience, i hate giving pet shops business by buying their bird's, so if you want good quality go see a breeder or even someone on here might be able to negotiate something for you. But anyway's, welcome back to the forum, and hope you find the perfect budgie for your little bundle of joy
  5. their dad is long Ahh so thats why what effects will that have on the chicks? like example will it be only the cock-bird's that are long or will it spread to all gender's?
  6. is their a reason why they looked so stretched out? mine look nowhere near as long as them lol
  7. aww their beautiful, and quickly growing, always a joy to watch the little guys grow up and to give them a chance at life
  8. when i was at work worrying about my budgies when was the last time you cooked and what did you cook
  9. indeed, would love to see his collection. i always get excited when i go to see good breeder's collection's cause its always great to see other people's birds and be able to compare them to your own birds (in your mind) and even get tips from looking at them, gives me idea's on how to improve on my own birds in the process
  10. hehe, i havent been to tassy yet, and this time of the year, all i have to say is "too bloody cold!" lol, feel sorry for the bird's down their...would be freezing for them i used to live In Redcliffe though up in QLD, beautiful town

  12. True Fact: most Australian budgerigar breeder's breed mostly show type's, where as the pet type's aren't commonly used for breeding. i was quiet Surprised myself when i read this bit of information. i would say it's accurate too, cause all the breeder's in my town are show type breeders
  13. I try to keep my pairs in close proximity of each other's mutation, like my greens go with my greens opalines with opalines etc etc, that way you have a positive idea of what you are going to get from them. but if you want a whole mixture of colors in the genes of the offspring, then pair completely different types, Example: White Opaline Lacewing + Type 2 yellow face spangle sky blue that way it's a mixed gene. but MY opinion is to keep colors with color's unless you have no choice but to switch around pairs that dont suit well with one another. but it's all up to you.

50%? thats unusual for a pet shop to be selling stuff over 10% after all their usually to stuck up and money hungry to give a damn about the birds in the shop just as long as they make money but anyways u picked up a nice bargain, im thinking of getting a proper bird bath to stand up away from the perch's and instead put seed in it and have a hanging water casket thingo

  20. good choice, let her rest etc through winter then start her up again in mid spring i've decided to let mine breed through winter, half of my hens have nests and its getting too full-on for me to just take the boxes out for winter, so im gonna have to run the gauntlet and let them breed this winter then ill take the boxes out just before summer and let them take a holiday By The Way kaz, seeing that i do not know alot about baby's (mutation wise) my eldest have white fuzz and starting to get tiny pins in a row on his wing, is it possible for you to see what color it might be if i supply a picture sometime today? preety sure its a hen to
