he's a fine looking beast haha

as far as i know, budgies dont get flea's, they get mites etc. i wouldnt let the budgie ride on the dog lol. safety reasons due to possibly the dog turning on the budgie (the dog can be as tame as anything and friendly, but instinct can take over) and if you use frontline etc etc to control flea's on the dog, its best to keep the bird away
  3. if anything, it should be easier to tame with both of them, as the non-tame one will see how much love and time you put into the other, and it will also help to put your hand in the cage for a while with the tame one on your finger, that way the non-tame one will be used to your hand, and will feel more confident with your hand if the other budgie is unharmed by it.
  4. Mine cope fine in the cold, it gets around -1 here. it helps to cover the aviary/cabinets at night to prevent cold wind from blowing in

seeing that hes got a yellow face, why not "sonny"? ...or even Olly as Elly suggested
  8. It would have to be male guaranteed, i haven't seen a hen with a pink cere before. as for it acting like a girl, all budgie's personality's are different, he might be a tom-girl?

She actually layed an egg, only to find that it had quite a fair bit of dried up blood on the egg, so i threw it out and took her out of the aviary for a few days then stuck her back in, she now plays with the quails down the bottom regularly with her other mate, i even saw her sit on the quail eggs while the quails decided to go to the other side of the aviary for a feed
  10. Looks like you got yourself a nice little Lutino their mate, Congrats look forward to it developing it's feathers. Are they normal Oat's you would purchase from a pet store?....if so, you should try porridge(oats) as the hen's as well as the babys will enjoy chewing on it...my hens turn the oats into dust oats  and yes, its awfully small for 7 days old, my 8 day old baby looks twice that size :S

UPDATE: Pair 1 Male: light green split blue+albino Hen: violet opaline Results: 1 normal blue, 1 grey-green, 1 normal grey, 1 red-eyed albino (eldest 3 weeks & 5 days - Youngest 2 weeks old) Pair 2 Male: Yellow double factor spangle(green series) Hen: Type 2 yellowface violet opaline cobalt Results: 4 chicks, Unknown mutation, 1 has white fuzz at 2 days old which might indicate opaline Pair 3 Male: Grey & white Dominant pied Hen: Red-eyed albino Results: 1/5 hatched, looks like nothing behind eye, which means its red-eyed albino like the mother. So far its looking great. eldest chicks will be ready to come out in a few more days.
  12. wow this is a toughie...i would bet on a male, his cere is colorful in pink which usually indicated young male

oh good, cause the hen has not left the nest in the full 23 days really the male has been in their half the day helping her and feeding her in the box so i would say she started incubating after 3rd or 4th egg

I'm not so sure if this is normal or not, but my type 2 yellowface opaline hen has hatched all 4 of her youngens 1 day after the other, first baby hatched 1 day earlier then expected at around 9pm, then the next morning a second chick hatched at around 11am, then the very next morning after another hatched at same time and then another one hatched the very same day at around 10pm at night. correct me if im wrong but shouldnt it be a hatchling every 2 days or so?...

they look funny when bald, reminds me of that cockatoo that survived the victorian bushfires, he was bald and from old age to, not the fires. if only i lived in perth, i would be eager to buy that grey-green off you when he is older

Update: all the chicks are looking great, unfortunately the 2 day old chick did not make it, the reason why i think is, it hatched 1 day after the first... so i would say it hatched too early...and didn't survive.
  19. I do not see why not. if i was a budgie, i would surely eat them

UPDATE: 4 baby's looking healthy, 3 hens 1 male, the albino is the male which is no surprise cause the father is split for it, as for the other 3, 2 look like greys, but have got blue tails,(too early to confirm its proper color) and one of them has got a green/yellow color in the wing pin feathers. so most likely a normal grey green. my type 2 yellow face violet Opaline cobalt has hatched her 2nd baby, both looking healthy and well fed, my albino hen has not hatched any of her 5 yet, 4/5 are fertile and one u can hardly see through so expecting a hatchling any day now my lutino hen, has layed an egg also, her mate is a normal Grey green, and my dominant pied sky blue cock-bird has mated with my violet Opaline and she has layed her first egg. so far so good with the breeders, (off topic news) my pied hen Cockatiel has settled with 3 eggs, first one is due to hatch in 1 week, and my pair of quail have finished their nest and have started sitting at 5 eggs, so no more left to lay.
  21. As kaz said, this happens a lot with colony breeding, i colony breed myself, the hen's did this for the first month, and now all the pairs have chosen their box and are laying without problems or fights, i like to think myself lucky it turned out like this, what i would suggest is putting more box's in, or take out the trouble makers. so the pair can nest peacefully.
