  1. sounds like the start of nesting - i would think in about a week you could see eggs.
  2. oh i see,
  3. awww so cute and i love the name. but red eyes? can't see it in the pictures.
  4. agree with Kaz. all very cute too
  5. thanks guys, only three of the eggs are fertile, i was leaving her be anyway. She has been sitting on them since then. I was worried has I've not had that before and both birds are first timers.
  6. Did a quick hunt with the search tool - but it is late for me and so i'm posting a new topic. link me to any that you know of. I believe my hen spent the night last night off her eggs. sounded like one of them was in trouble (screaming noise) so i had to turn the light on to check on them at about 8.30pm. she was in the box at that point and i tried not to bother her but she came out. Whoever it was was silent as soon as the light was on. I moved the night light a bit closer to them just in case and left them. at 5.30am (about when i get ready for work) i checked on them as it is just getting light then, and it seemed that she was sleeping on the perch. Now to the question: The eggs should start hatching any day now (i had marked today as the possible start of hatchings). Is it possible that any survived in the eggs if she had stayed off the nest? Has anyone had experience in this? I've not had any other hen not rush back into the box at any hour of the day. She was in there when i returned home and rushed back in after my check, as normal.
  7. number 5 - black or dark blue tail?? being reading from the start. if that chick as a black tail then you have a clear sign of what colour Mystery is. (i never liked the idea of him being just a dark green)
  8. par as in partial yes, Yellowface is also termed as par-blue as it blocks only some of the yellow. it means that the Texas clear body gene can work with the ino gene. you can pair a ino hen to a TCB cock and have a split ino male that shows as TCB. Then if that male is paired to an INO you would get both ino and TCB babies, depending on the gene he gave. PS- updated my first post with info on the chicks
  9. To answer the first question - TCB is sex linked. it is a par-ino gene. Just like any sex linked gene the males can be split for it. My Storm who I'm breeding now is split for it due to his mother being one. I'm hoping for at least one TCB chick from him. As for your young I see no signs of them being TCB. I believe the Opaline and the baby tones of the feathers are confusing you. Their flight feathers need to be paler than the rest and in the shots they all have the same colour. Don't forget that Opaline lightens the fathers a little as well.
  10. love the name he look a little unsure of the camera in the first shot.
  11. it is best to let the birds settle into the new place - did the breeder use separate cabinets for breeding? a lot of budgie aren't use the a wire cage set up such as you have as they are use to a flock. this can make them stress. I brought a male from a breeder and for the whole month he was separate from the rest of my flock he was not happy as he wasn't use to it. if you feel this breeder knew his stuff - and it seems that way as you willing brought his (her?) birds - then you have to decide what you feel is best of your birds. Trust the breeder and continue or wait. They looks good not sure what you know of genetics but if the cocks dam was blue then he is split for blue. She isn't split for blue so you will only get green based birds from the pair.
  12. sorry to hear that Maddy. show us a picture of your lastest. as for the hen sitting in the box all day - remove it for a few hours daily, that way the two can interact. about when is the first one due?
  13. i want lot 12 and 19. anyone willing to buy them for me?
  14. welcome RazzleDazzle! looking forward to seeing your birds. Spangles are still my favourite type.
  15. hugs Kaz! She has a field full of them to chase now.
  16. i still see a hen.
  17. welcome and he is wonderful.
  18. agree you have a boy. and a cutie!
  19. the hen doesn't start brooding correctly until she has a few eggs - this is why the first few hatch together. glad you get getting some eggs.
  20. any pied could still get a normal tail. it is a fault on the show standards.
  21. Thought I would start this now. Few weeks back I set up two pairs. As all of the ones i wanted to use they where all first timers so i was ready for issues. Pair one was Makka and Dot. They had started to bond well in the aviary. so I decided to leave them. She laid three eggs, all outside the nest, then after a week laid another two and stopped (again outside) one was in one piece so i put it in the box. She started to sit on it. Then Sunday two weeks ago she laid an egg (again outside the box) with some trouble as i did find some blood. She didn't lay again all that week, so the box was removed, both checked and then returned to the flock. She has laid two more during this week but as her cere is now pale (about to flake off) she will not be set up again until next year. Storm and Melon however started off a bit bumpy, he wanted back to his girl in the flock and then she didn't seem to be interested. All up today she has laid 7 eggs. I removed one as it got a small hole in it and the air dried it out (the air pocket was off side and the egg sat on it's point) 2 more look to be died out inside - big air pockets checking today two eggs have red lines the last two still show up clear but only one has that 'cream' look of an empty egg when no light is on it making me think it is the latest egg. storm - Blue/TCB/Opaline Melon- dark green spangle/blue Fingers crossed for a TCB baby.
  22. thanks RIP i wasn't sure what caused this new thread. let us know the news
  23. looking at the front of the chicks i would think they are both clear flight pieds one with just a few more feathers affected.
  24. what points do you see on baby 2 & 3 for you to state recessive?? both have strong dominant features to me. the clear head spot mark and wing patterns higher up on the wings. two do look paler and could be greywings . the parents i would say are cobalt.
