  1. just with those pictures i would say male and female.
  2. I hope Charlie gets better soon! Must say this breeder is gold
  3. Kaz for the question the colour of the hen doesn't matter. (grey or blue) Only green offspring unless the cock is split for blue. Do you have pictures? an opaline yellowface blue will have the body colour on the wings not yellow. Sounds like you either have a spangle or greywing depending on what you mean as "faint"
  4. yes that is correct Black Doctor. That thread was copied from what Jim Hutton wrote.
  5. welcome, any chance of some pictures of your birds?
  6. yes spangle opaline - he is a nice bird.

  9. looks like it with those pictures. are the cololurs true to life?
  10. Love the set up and they seem to be having a ball. Love little Sora and Azula.
  11. i was thinking the same thing Kaz.
  12. body colour in the wings is a different gene from the yellow face one, it is called opaline.

You are right you have two different types there the one with the brown cere is a albino hen The other is male as is either Dark Eye Clear or Double Factor Spangle. It wil depend on his age to work out which he is. If he is an older bird (8 months onward) you would be looking at DEC as their cere do not change from the baby pink colour. DF spangles get the normal dark blue cere and have a white iris ring in the eye. Welcome to BBC it is a great place and I can't wait to see your birds. Also are you wanting to breed fr Show, genetics or just for fun?
  14. yes they will continue to feed the chicks, at this point it is mostly the dad feeding them, him and the older siblings will help feed as well. the ice cream container is to just give the chicks still learning a place to hide and sleep in before they learn how to sleep on a branch and in case mum or dad attack they can hide. Real life is alway better than a picture in seeing the true colour.
  15. yes most stick to only two rounds though i know a few that after judging their own birds health let them have another small round or if the pairing is good they will foster out the eggs. But to start off with staying with a max of two is best.
  16. the coloured bit above the beak is called the cere and is what is used to sex budgies. young males - bight pink cere adult males - dark blue ino and recessive pied males keep the baby colour always young hens - pale blue/white cere adult hens - tan/brown crusty cere when out of breeding condition they have the light blue ceres.
  17. was hoping to see a picture, Frodo is a girl and judging by the colour of the cere slightly older than 8 weeks , i would say 3-4 months. She is a beautiful yellowface recessive pied. Hens do tend to bite a bit harder (my got me some good ones in her time) but any bird will bite. As she is scared of your hand and is threatened she is biting in the hopes you will stay away from her. Have a read with our taming area for some tips but i would look at getting her a new cage. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Brand-Aviary-Bird-30x18x18-2474WHT/dp/B0002A6V56/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1195854711&sr=8-4/glitter0c/ rounds ones aren't good for birds. and Budgie need a wider cage to give them room to move and fly, tho it looks like she has clipped wings to help with training and hand taming.
  18. yes budgies can and will breed all year when given a suitable place to breed.
  19. you need to use a online site to store the picture such as Photobucket or tiny pics
  20. was he sold to you as a tame budgie or one out of a flight cage with a group of them. If not tame then you need to take the time to bond with him. this can takes months not weeks Sounds to me you are rushing the hand taming and he isn't use to hands. have you got any treats for him such as millet? This is always something to help with the training as they love it. Talk to him always even when just passing his cage.
  21. wonderful picture and worthy of the prize! Congratulations
  22. chick 2 i would say female. How old is the youngest? put an ice cream container or box at the bottom of the cage for the chicks to hide into when out of the nest as mum or dad sometimes start to attack them when they try to re-enter. I'm sure there are some threads around with pictures showing the containers, I know Kaz had posted some ages ago. You might not even need to leave the nest box there but if any eggs appear just remove them.
  23. love them Dean! Great colouring on them (bright) and the heads!! love them, the last two siblings look so cute sitting side by side
