  1. hey looks great!
  2. you can remove the eggs and leave them altogether if doormat isn't aggressive towards the chicks. otherwise remove her and leave Dad to raise them.
  3. very cute all of them. looked at the big picture link and saw no sign of any iris. not sure what part you are looking at. the iris is normally at the big moult time around the 3-4 months mark.
  4. awww no wings out for Ace they are looking fantastic. Gloria should starting to sit on the perches now.
  5. looks like hens to me, the first appears to be mauve the other a yellow face ino
  6. I'm so sorry to hear this Amy, it is hard to lose any bird so suddenly but I know the special ones are extra hard. Fly free Santa.
  7. it is so cute to see the other chicks feeding. This is normal - so many little things that once you have seen it a while you forget to mention that it happens. I'm sure you will see Gloria out and about often now that she has taken the step.
  8. Reading your answer to this it seems to me the same results where given - although, correctly i did forget to state that the males would also be split for Ino not just slate (amd K&M is right that they would be spit blue as well) I believe i had already stated that information in previous post -
  9. just because the trait is sex-linked would make them be on the same alli (not sure of spelling) so the males would be normal /slate hens would be slate Although slate is only really classed that in the blue line. But they would have the gene and it would affect their feathers
  10. you would get normals from that paring unless the male was split ino himself
  11. looks like she had fun.
  12. wish i has time to read this tonight. but you can't use the DF spangle as I will be stealing him
  13. the peeping isn't an issue each chick is different I've had ones that do nothing by cry until back in the box and others that love being held and outside. Lucky you found the ring for him. Watch him like you are, I wouldn't stress if he has a full crop. they look great. Hope you get better soon
  14. it is still white down that appears it is more the skin that has dark pigment on it and later at the age of little Leela it will look grey in colour. I can still see the marks that make me think normal not opaline. get a shot the cere next time
  15. i Don't think Potato is Opaline .. there are faint black dots on the body, which in a few days should give a dark look to the down feathers. as to the pied markings - give it a bit more time to judge. Pied marks can affect any area at any time with each chick
  16. they all look great!
  17. tail feathers of the M Spangle are just like a normal spangle Kaz. I think this is just the Opaline gene affecting the tail feathers a little more than normal
  18. you have the dilute gene which removed the grey and brown pigment. then you have the yellow face gene which removes some of the yellow pigment from the feathers. so yes the two combined and reduce the colouring of the bird greatly. and then the pied gene which removed all colour from different area's of the bird. I would wait for after her adult feathers come in for the colour to really show. as babies they are always paler. I would believe the patch on her shoulder to get darking in the adult feathers - to something like her father as to the cheek patches the pied gene can affect them as well so for this bird the standards might not fully match.
  19. Squeak - i know in spangles they are meant to be a ring, many spangles these days don't have the correct spots. but all in that family line are light on in spots so that would help the normal young.
  20. lol, I've done that once with Ringo and it didn't work! (but she was a bossy bird all her life) Thanks Kaz - i know either pairings would make some great young. just looking for input Thanks Matt G - she has show lines in her but sadly i forget the names of the bloodlines. Kringle is from show stock as well. he is a bit longer than her and she has some great throat spots so i hope the pair produce some young.
  21. i thought it was just poop.
  22. Hey guys, I will be looking at having my birds breeding again shortly. I have the cages cleaned out and the boxes. I'm thinking next weekend to set them up. I have three cages I think i know who i want to pair to who but i've been thinking about for months now and keep swapping around. So far I think the best pairing would be Storm and Dot - They are uncle can Niece Storm is a blue normal split TCB and Opaline Dot is grey-green normal split blue Issues with the pair - storm has bonded very well in the aviary with Reepicheap his sister, Dot seems to be starting to pair with Macka (skyblue M spangle) I could pair her to Macka as the pair would still work, just not give as many outcomes as the storm and Dot pairing. I really want to use Storm with someone to get the TCB gene spread out in the flock as he is the last that has it. Then I have Kringle and Elle - no relation Kringle is Grey-green spangle split blue Elle is a yellowface type 2 normal and from memory i think split recessive pied I noticed today they seem to be pairing off. For the third cage I'm not sure. I really want to use one of the M.Spangles to get some more young of that gene. Hopefully a hen so i can breed back for some DF spangles. So I have Kazza, Minka and Macka (son of Kazza) remaining hens i have Melon and Chewy. There is Reepi but i think she is a little old to be breeding (from memory as i've lost all my files i think she was hatched 2006) Macka (they all look the same so thank god they have rings) Melon Chewy Give me Ideas people
  23. You are right as it looks like the chick is Opaline (white down) - as only dad is Opaline she has to be a hen.
  24. agree with the others
  25. Lily i can see is a male for sure. The others yes they could be males as in these pictures they aren't as pale and as Finnie states there isn't any white to be seen. They are at the tricky stage as their ceres are starting to turn to the adult colour making it hard to judge.
