  1. welcome Michelle what size is the aviary? Budgies like most birds feel safer up higher and your three are in a new environment. All of mine still sleep on the side of the wire a high as they can get, and fight over the corner spots.
  2. only TCB if the male is split for it. i agree with the statements for the parents more pictures are needed. of the chicks too.
  3. glad the chicks are good GB. i get the wire replaces door area now. all mine open from the top so would have to buy some wire to set it up.
  4. not sure on the placement of the wire - on the side of the box or the top?? just getting ideas, wish could breed mine now, the boys are flirting all the time with anything that move (and some things that don't) and the hens look good with new feathers in and some of them are accepting the males courting. They think it is time but the heat in the middle of the day is still a bit too strong.
  5. i answered to you other post about millet but you seem to be getting some good info here. yes 2 budgies will be much hard to tame but not impossible if you don't give up (most people do) it's been a while since i've tamed any of my birds, i handle my young from the nest and i'm happy for them just being a flock in the aviary. Talk to them - silence to a bird means danger and so they are on alert mode and getting ready to fly. Talk when walking past as well as when interacting with them be it changing food/water or a taming session. If one is braver than the other focus the work with them as once one budge does something the other is more willing to follow. My second bird was not tame at all but he loved his partner (who was very tame) and would follow her anywhere including me. He never did so alone tho but i didn't try to tame him further. any change of pictures of the two?
  6. how old is the chick?
  7. 25% Yf blue pied 25% YF normals 25% Blue normals 25% YF blue normals all hens Opaline all males split for Opaline. you did great. I just detailed it out for the %'s.
  8. They have been resized which is great the other day they had the gray box around them with the resized from x% comment at the top.
  9. are you wanting to tame them as pets or keep them as part of the flock? if the later they can stay out there if they are moving around with ease and are not getting attacked by anyone.
  10. it is a wonderful mutation to watch develop. Over time you will see more green feathers, that picture was just after his first moult - the first picture is of the same bird later on. Ella is a sky blue normal.
  11. I know what you are trying to describe but I see no other signs on pied on her, I can't see any clear feathers on her wings or a pied spot on her head. It is hard to get the change of feathers with this gene to show correctly in pictures but below are some of my yellow face type 2 birds (well a few shots of two, dad and son) This is what they looked like before their first moults: This gene only blocks part of the yellow factors of the feather and will continue to show more yellow as the bird ages. to help here is a recessive pied: and Dominant pied:
  12. pictures are good Pebbles isn't a pied bird she is a yellowface type 2 normal. A friend is a nice idea but keep in mind budgie will bond better with each other than with you. If you want pebbles to be best friends with you a friend might not suit your situation.
  13. both are hens

yeah budgies can be aggressive to other species of birds. is there a reason they are housed together?
  15. Yes remove it. You will see a better interest in it once your birds have matured and developed a bond together and you reintroduce it at the right time.
  16. DAVE AND KAZ - pictures are too big but great looking birds, i like the middle one in the first shot.
  17. *Nerwen* replied to amanda's topic in Budgie Pictures
Link to the picture, it is currently too big for the board size limit of 480 x 620 (?) not sure on that last figure but it is around that. nice sky blue budgie, have you had any issues with the lovebird in with them??
  18. *Nerwen* replied to PJI's topic in Off Topic Chatter
love the first shot Very cute
  19. you can use any email you want it is a different site and had it's own rules to what emails accounts can be used, when i signed mine up years ago they allowed Hotmail one. once you have uploaded the picture to Photobucket there are 3 or 4 links under it to copy and paste into your thread here - you want to use the one with the [ img] code at the front.
  20. when more at ease they will move around more, budgies feel safer higher up. You might not see them drink unless on a very hot day. Budgies don't need a lot of water (but that doesn't mean they don't need it in the cage) No need to worry that you haven't seen then drink. Green leaves, or fresh veggies have a lot of water in them as well.
  21. There is no iris ring in the pied Kaz, chance it is a young male? - how old is the bird Azzie-arnold? I Don't see mauve at all, the pied is a green bird in the pictures. I agree with cobalt for the first bird. EDIT - Thanks Ratzy, those pictures in the other thread show clearly the green pied is a boy and the hen is sky blue not cobalt.
  22. look forward to seeing them, keep in mind two budgies will be harder to tame than one but still possible if you keep at it. Start offering them veggies in a small amounts straight away, if they haven't had them before it will take a while for them to try any. EDIT - both those trees are fine. GB - why don't you use the fast reply section? you can easily scroll back up the page to read the posts above.

welcome to the site, sounds like a great flock of birds there. Could you tell us a bit of the set up you have for breeding to judge more on this broken egg. E.g are you colony breeding or selective breeding? If colony breeding where are the boxes placed and how many?
  24. it is my view as well Dave, many people (even myself) have stated it like this to simplify it for starters. There are poorly marked spangle that have faint/ very thin lines. That would cause issues with judging in showing i believe. Reading the standards for that might help more. (not a show breeder)
