  1. Finne is right, grey is a adding factor and separate from the blue gene a grey bird is a bird lined bird with the grey factor. a grey-green is a green lined bird with the grey factor. So the cock bird in the instance might not be split for blue, the answer will appear in the chicks.
  2. agree with troy. she appears too light for any violet gene to me.
  3. She is Beautiful!! and he is a great bird too

Thanks Zigzagoon - for some i have to use their leg rings to work them out, other i use throat spots Thanks Amy - no plans to set up breeding again right now, have to manage out work and time to check all that needs checking when breeding. I put the names in order in the pictures so Minka is on the left and the Newphew is on the right, both are Melanistic spangles, the newphew hasn't lost as much of the markings on the wings as Minka has, but he is 2 years younger. Aw, I figured as I was typing it that might be the case, Razzle and Dazzle were too good for you not to have already used them. Well, here's a good idea! The poor bird who lost his name deserves a new one, and I'm sure Macka deserves to have a bird named after him. Then they will both feel special! Macka it is
  5. great birds, i look forward to seeing the chicks. Do you know if he is split blue?

    hehehe i like it
  7. she is pretty, and agree that she looks recessive pied, and spangle looking at the picture of the chick i can see the two clear pins for the tail feathers which is a sign for spangle

thanks for the suggestion Finnie, but Razzle was Dazzles sisters name (now passed on) His mother is Reepi and Dad is Kazza if any other suggestions come to mind.

hehehe Chewy had an identical older sister too. yes Kaz the gene acts just like the normal spangle gene. I had planned to breed her to her Minka to get some DF Melanistic Spangles. Does this means the gene is getting acceptance in the show area?

Poka Reepacheep and Storm Kringle Melon Elle Squeaker Dash Dot (grey-green) and friend...sadly i've forgotten his name Dazzle Kazza and Chewy Minka and unnamed Nephew Squash and Melon

and now aviary and birds are in place fun stuff like a few leafy branches are to come shortly
  14. in the pictures i can't see cinnamoin. She also doesn't appear to be df pied. and i agree that she is spangle as well. She has bars all the way to her cere so around 2-3 months old.
  15. show us a picture of both birds and also tell us what you see in real life. also is the bird in a round cage?
  16. *Nerwen* replied to Sunnie's topic in Breeding Journals
nice bird look forward to the breeding outcomes. good luck
  17. not quite,(males must have two genes of a sex linked gene to be visual (one from each parent) in the pair you brought up the male offspring will only be split for Opaline as they can't get another Opaline gene from the mother the female offspring part is correct.
  18. *Nerwen* replied to Sunnie's topic in Breeding Journals
sounds good, can we see the birds?
  19. keep up the good taming work. hens do get a little bitey. Ttry not to react if it is only nibbles as she could get harder, if it is hard bites you can blow in her face to make her stop (fast and hard) to shock her to stop.
  20. can you explain the water bottle to me? what is it meant to do

Fiancée and family did a great job yesterday and got the cement down for the aviary. We have made agreements that all are free to move the cage on the weekend which is going to be interesting. It will be great to have my little feathered friends back, and hearing their chirps mixed with the other birds around here
  23. i would sit her between 3-5 months. Look under wings for what coloured feathers are there. also which is more her colour? what shows in the first two shots or the last lot?
  24. take your word with the blue all i see is black marks appearing like on the head. i'm thinking you may have a spangle here, any tail pins?
  25. all bird act a bit different, but that is normal for a male to enter the box and help with feeding.
