definitely female - not in breeding condition. As Finnie said be sure they are of age.
  2. Agree that the bid is male with issues as Finnie stated.
  3. Agree with the Mauve spangle for the other he is a Cobalt dominant pied ( also called Australian Banded pied) clearflight pied - look like a normal bird but the flights are clear (white or yellow)
  4. A- yellow type 2 normal male B- yellow type 2 normal hen
  5. I would say he is double Factor spangle with suffusion. As for the girl does she have iris rings? If yes with black eyes then she is a double factor spangle.

hi guys, I've not been around much of late. I do jump in and have a look around a bit but haven't really posted that much. update - I'm now 36 weeks and was told at 20 week that it was 90% chance bubs is a girl. I hope so now as I've been given a TON of pink things lol. Everything with the pregnancy has been running smoothly, just the last few weeks I've ended up with flu and cough which had me out of it for a week and then my nose would not stop running the following week. And this week I've had a sinus infection or tooth infection. All I could take was panadol to help with the pain and fevers and antibiotics for the infection this week, which i think after 5 days of horrid pain have started to work (3 days of meds). Fingers crossed after this I don't catch anything else and i can focus on sorting out everything for bubs arrival. I had a heap of clothes to wash and a room to sort out, all of which I'll do while on maternity leave. I might be thinking crazy (i'm sure a parent can let me know) but while at home with bubs I was thinking of breeding some birds - I think there would be time for daily check ups and feedings. Or am I too hopeful that caring for bubs will be as smooth sailing as the pregnancy??
  9. agree with Neville - now that I returned to the pictures and noticed the brown throat spots.
  10. the clear patch appears on all types of pieds.
  11. yeah I would like another picture. Robyn - pied's have cheek patches like that as well, due to the pied gene affecting those feathers.
  12. it is a hard one to say, seeing as the bird is a recessive pied a male of that type should have a bright pink cere that doesn't change. Make you think this bird could be a girl did the lady give you an age? I don't see any head bars so I would think one moult would have already happened giving an age between 3-6 months at least.
  13. how many moults has this bird had? wondering if some feathers haven't developed their full adult colouring yet? more close up shots could help too. Do you own the parents? can we see the YF as well just to see what the sibling looks like today

I see what you mean, there should be something starting to show. yes I remember a red glow to eggs as well. guess it is too hard to get a picture?
  15. Hi

i thought using the shape to gender pick was for younger birds (pinkies) but I would agree with Maddy, why? due to the pale blue almost white or grey tones of the said female chicks and the male pied having a clearly more pink toned cere

how many days old is the egg? and when did you notice mum start to brood? it could just be the very start of veins for a fertile one.
  17. awe and a cute one at that

good luck Maddy - the cages look great! wish i could get a nice set up like that. Saddly I don't think hubby will let me take over that much of the garden shed lol. (even thought right now all it has is old cages in it)

i thought you were crazy to willingly stay up that late to clean YOUR house, but seeing the later post that it is really owned by them must make it hard to tell them to back off. Hugs to our Kaitlyn - don't really have answers for you. I'm normally an easy going gal but hate been bossed, I would have dug my heels in long before the end of that first day lol.

Defiantly a Koel. and i would guess the noise will drop only after it moves on.
  22. *Nerwen* replied to Laurie's post in a topic in Off Topic Chatter
yep looks like a Koel, either female or a young one.
  23. nice bird Kaz can't wait you see what young you get with him.
  24. TCB is a sex linked gene, and is a par Ino gene. Your hen would have passed the gene on to her sons. I want more shots of the father as in the first picture he looks to have grey wings and a grey throat spot which could me more than one gene in play on the young. also what colour eye does the all white baby have?
  25. *Nerwen* replied to Locksta12's post in a topic in What Sex Is My Budgie?
what I used was the fact the head bars are almost touching the cere and the throat spots are baby spots, all signs that this is a very young bird one that hasn't had it moult yet. for a male that young i would be looking for a cere of this colour:
