  1. i believe you have a male - the brown doesn't seem as crusty as a hen's normally is and the blue is darker than a hen out of breeding condition gets (it is more pale) Can you tell us some behaviour of the bird? Is there lots of chewing and distorying things like paper? or lots of singing (not screeching/dolphin sounds)?
  2. good luck with your hen - i hope she is still with you. can you gather up a few of the birds and take to the vet for tips on how to give the meds?
  3. Basil - Dark green normal Hen - Cinnamon normal French moult - Yellowface type 2 Normal Green - Normal green Zombie Bird - Green Opaline Echo - Green Spangle
  4. agree with Finnie since you had just moved them, best to leave alone if it wasn't bleeding still. Hope you can give an update

very sweet of you to try with the eggs but yes after that length of time the growing chicks would have died. Hope you can show us your new birds when you get them. Where you planning on getting budgies?
  7. doesn't matter about their ceres now they are in the middle of breeding mode and will continue to breed while the conditions are good (and as pet birds they are always the best) don't quiet recall the tips for stopping plucking. If you can see which parent is doing it you can remove them - however it is normally the hen so you will have to judge if the chicks are old enough for dad to be helping with feeding.
  8. how are they acting towards it? if you can set it up higher with easy access to it then leave it where it is.
  9. correct cobalt opaline spangle. She is 4 years old so at the end of breeding age but if she doesn't show signs of illness after quarantine then you could try, if you feel she is up to it. Keep in mind you may only get one year from her. Did you have a male in mind? Pet shops never want to tell the real age of birds even more so when they are older ones.
  10. welcome, the kids are going to love watching them hatch and grow.
  11. there is a gene for dark grey budgies however it is rare. The anthracite budgie However if you want to work on dark greys you would need the dark factor in your birds which is hard to pick in greys and continue breeding with the darker offspring. Violet is another gene you will need to breed violets it is different to the dark factors. .
  12. correct a hen can't be split for cinnmon. love the chicks
  13. the male will hop back and forth from one branch to the other around the hen and even hop back and forth to the entrance of the box as a matting dance. In that video it looked to be the hen was looking for a way out. is there anyway you can tie the box up on the side using that small feeding door to put the entrance into the cage? the higher the box the better although they will use it on the floor as I've done it before.

i would think cobalt violet with the colours you say you see in real life. Sky violets are closer to cobalt colouring (like your pied) and violet mauves are a darker colour. Yes it is normal for spangles to have pied spots. As for ages of birds, ones at pet shops are between 3-6 months for young ones or even older. It is hard to guess after the big moult, but your pied looks around 6 months as the cere is still pale brown not a deep brown. but this is just a guess, make sure you have had them for a year before breeding.
  16. blue and greens are fine together - they are all budgies. Definitely olive, the dark factor will make the tail darker as well which is why it is different to George's.
  17. welcome to the site. sounds like you have your hands full with that household.
  18. lol, I'd be interested in getting one to hear what it sounds like.
  19. Mum's throat spots look grey to me in the photo Finnie, she could still be spangle.
  20. I say you have a hen
  21. great to hear that you are reading first. and congrats on a great choice of pets. Finnie has given the answer for grey-green or olive. and heaps of other great info. With the veggies just keep offering very small amounts (less waste) and try sprinkle some seed on it to temp them to try it. If they haven't had any before it will take a while for them to try it. A lettuce leaf with some water can be tempting as well for a bath and a nibble.
  22. roseydoo - pictures would help in this situation to work out what Speckle's is. Of her and the parents.
  23. bush budgies is just the name for very small natural coloured budgies (green) they can be treated just like any budgie kept in a cage.
  24. that's great news easier people can get this product the fast birds are treated.
