Some Piccies Of The Gang
They are so pretty and I love your playgym.

Fat Budgie
Beka is down a gram. I haven't given her much time to "lose" but she was looking a little smaller so I decided to put her on the scale. She is a bigger (longer) bird than my others so may never get down to 35 grams but I would like to see the fat pad near her vent gone.

Double Trouble In The Shower
Great shot Bea! Does Oz like it as much as Blinkie?

Lump
My first thought was, "Is it an egg?" How long has it been there? Is she showing any other signs of illness?

Is This A Good Idea?
I wouldn't think that it would be very safe. I remember hearing that a baby died when its mom sprayed a non stick spray while it was in the room. That might have been just a rumour but I don't like aerosol cans. I just use a soft plastic pot scrubber and any stuck poop (there isn't much) just pops off my grates.

Members' Recessive Pieds
I thought it might be interesting to start a topic for each mutation of budgie and have members post a picture of their budgies that have that mutation. The post should just include the picture (a full body shot if possible), name of budgie, sex, colour, and could mention if the budgie has other mutations. I think these posts might be helpful to new budgie owners in learning mutations if they see a variety of birds with the same mutation. Name: Tazzy Sex: Male Colour: Violeg Other mutations: Cinammon Name: Romeo Sex: Male Colour: Cobalt Other mutations: Yellowface

I Love My New Cage!
Well you asked for updated pics in another post Kirby so here they are. Cage now has most of the toys on either end or against sides so there is a nice open flight area for them. It seems to be a better layout. Even Big Bek is flying around more. Here is a long shot from the side. And zoomed in on the little cutie pies.

Does This Sound Real?
Kirby, I would recommend that you not touch the last eggs laid for as long as possible. You don't want to take any chances. You will be so discouraged and wonder if you addled them if nothing comes of them.

This Can Not Be!
Cute picture Lovey. I wouldn't dare let my cat near the birds. She was a stray - we found her 5 years ago eating dropped apples from our apple trees - and she is quite a hunter. We tried to make her an indoor cat but she wants no part of it in the summer - just sits at the door and cries. She is very pretty. I'll have to put a picture of her in off-topic some time. Anyway, I think the budgie and dog/cat pics are just precious.

Going Away For Easter
Well that is certainly a story for the scrapbook. I'm glad it all turned out well for everyone. So what did hubby say when it was all said and done???

Scales For Weighing Birds
I have a postal scale that goes up in grams or ounces. That is what I used to weigh Beka.

Evening Squabbles
It is a nightly ritual but has improved quite a bit since I rearranged the cage. They have their little squabble and then settle in for the night. I have two long perches up high on either end of the cage, and that seems to have helped. 6 usually perch on one end and 2 on the other. No blood or plucking so I think I'm okay.

Look Who Went For A Dip
Every once in awhile the budgies surprise me. I thought I had Daffodil all figured out. She is my most timid bird and I really haven't seen her do too much. She seems like a follower. But the other day I rearranged the cage so the birds would have a clear flight path, and the next thing I know she plunged herself into the water dish. She was loving it and got totally drenched.

Outdoor Aviary In Canada?
Sounds good Kirby. Suburbia might be a little safer. I'm in the woods basically. We have even had a bear around. Lots of skunks, racoons, deer too. I guess if I were going to have the hassle of bringing them in every night, I might just wheel the big cage outside for a bit of sunshine. I'd like to put a cover on it though so no wild birds could poop on them. Post pics when yours is done!!!

Just Starting Out/breeding
Welcome You have come to the right place to learn. And that is what I would suggest you do before you start breeding your budgies. There is so much to think about - are your birds old enough, are they related, proper diet, what will you do if you the hen doesn't look after the chicks, etc. Start by reading the Budgerigar Breeding sections of this forum. And best of luck to you.

Baby Chicks
