  1. I've purchased my birds at independent pet stores. 4 have come from Whiskers, 2 have come from Skeeters, and 2 came from Ruffins. The only "chain" around here is Pets Unlimited. I've looked on many occasions. I did buy my mom a budgie from there - looks just like Beka - but most times they don't have what I'm looking for. There is a sweet cream recessive pied with a grey belly in the Greenwood Pets Unlimited. I'm always tempted but was really trying not to buy anything until I could find my YF2 spangle. But I just couldn't resist the little Creamino. Called the petstore today and they said I can pick him up on Friday!!! Yay!
  2. I know... you are lucky. I've have searched high and low for a spangle around here. Not one to be found anywhere . Someday I'm sure I'll find one, or perhaps with some luck will breed my own if any of my 8 have a hidden spangle gene. Thanks for sharing your pics of your gorgeous birds.
  3. Lovey, I think your next budgie should be a spangle Cheeta, you have beautiful budgies. Can't wait to see the rest. I love your spangles of course. I said that I wasn't going to buy any more budgies until I could find a yellowface spangle. They are my absolute favourite. But then I stumbled upon a little Creamino last Saturday who is also precious. I have reserved him and will pick him up on Friday. Is Yue Liang a Creamino?? Keep the pics coming.

Hello fellow Canuck. I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here. Your budgie is cute. I like the unique name.
  5. It was around $400 Canadian by the time I paid customs, brokerage etc. I got it from birdcagemart.com and I think it was around $219 and free shipping. Good deal for you US citizens. I'd have an outdoor aviary if it weren't so cold here. But since it is, this is the next best thing. And, I can wheel this cage outside in the summer.
  6. Mr Attitude should have attitude. He is simply gorgeous. Oh my. I would think he is a spangled opaline dilute as well but I'm no expert. Send him my way would you. WOW!
  7. Well here are some updated pictures of the cage (just for you Kirby). It contains natural perches, rope perches, dowel perches, lots of feeding and water dishes, 5 cuttle/bone mineral combos, an iodine block, a hamster wheel, a couple of ladders, lots of toys (puchased and home made) toy/perch combos, and of course 8 darling budgies. The entire cage (no divider in at this time) The top half of the right side of the cage (where they congregate especially at night) The whole gang together at last
  8. Yes Kirby. They are all together now and doing very well except for the night time squabbles. I'm enjoying watching how they relate to one another and hope to see some natural pairings form. I have ideas about which birds I would like to see mate, but would like to interfere as little as possible. It is so funny how they all want to do the same things. They all eat at the same time, play at the same time, rest at the same time. And even with the big cage, they all tend to congregate on one side or the other. They definately are a flock. Where are the pics of your new cage and set up??? I will post a few more in the cages and aviaries set up soon. As for carrots - well definately not. I forgot to mention they have pecked at cauliflower some - a second choice to broccoli. Celery was not a hit either. How do you give them the celery. I just hung a big long stalk in the cage. It probably scared them. Ooh, the broccoli sprout sounds like it would be a hit!!! I keep meaning to buy seed for sprouts. My seed is full of veggie bits and egg and I'm sure I'd end up with a big moldy mess.
  9. He's very cute! I LOVE dilute budgies! I might get another one when I bring home my creamino
  10. Peer pressure might help. I know my newest four wouldn't touch broccoli until they went in the cage with the other four. Now everybody WANTS it.
  11. I just stumbled on a site that said raw peanuts are unsafe for budgies. Does anyone know if this is true? Are are raw different than roasted? I've thought about stringing some roasted shell peanuts as a treat for the budgies. I figured they would have a blast chewing through the peanut shells and then possible enjoying a tasty treat inside. Don't want to do this though if it is dangerous for them. If they are dangerous I would be a little surprised because I have seen gadgets in the petstore that are supposed to hold a few peanuts for birds to forage after - maybe they are meant for other birds.

He is such a cutie Bea. I can't wait until he and Blinkie meet. Have the camera ready!
  13. Reepicheep is still my favourite. But of course they are all darling. Can't remember if you said anywhere if you are selling them?
  14. Mine like romaine and spinach too but not really much else. I've tried carrot, mushroom, apple, strawberry. Carrots and mushroom get no response at all. They've pecked at apples and strawberries. But the broccoli disappears down to the stem. I've been giving some hard boiled egg too and they will pick at it. Have you tried any other "human" foods?
  15. My birds LOVE broccoli. I had to laugh as I watched Beka the other day. She was almost burying her head in the floret. And then she had the broccoli beard to prove it. (Sorry, second picture is a bit blurry.)
  16. The cage is Exterior Dimensions: Width 64¾" Depth 21½" Height 60" Interior Dimensions: Width 64" (32" each side) Depth 21" Height 35" Here is a picture of them just a few minutes ago. When they squabble they make lots of noise. There seems to be a lot of pecking between the squabbling birds. Sometimes one will fall off the perch they are fighting for. I usually make noise or something to distract them. It seems to last 15 minutes to half an hour. Sometimes they get settled but then will squabble a bit more. Nope. That wasn't me.
  17. HUGS! The blood would make me nervous too! Best check with your vet again. Better safe than sorry!
  18. All of the budgies are together in the big cage now. And I've been observing them for the last few nights. Every evening they squabble (sometimes quite agressively) over perches. I've put 8 perches almost in a row at the same height at the top of the cage. But if one pics a certain perch they decide they all want it. Is this a dominance thing? I get annoyed with them as there are perches sitting empty while they all fight for the same ones. AGH! Is there anything else I can do? Perhaps I should put the divider in at night and separate 4 to each side. I don't want to interfere to much but don't want anyone to get hurt either.
  19. Here is a much better picture of Wylie. I brought him out today and he didn't freak too much - I'm so impressed. Star is unclipped and I don't think I can get her to get a better picture. Star doesn't have anything like this bleeding into her chest. I'm assuming she has been through at least one molt. I really have no idea of her age but assume she is under a year. So it wouldn't be a good idea to breed these two? Or is that just if I'm concerned about being able to distinguish if bubs are YF1 or YF2?
  20. He's a cutie!!! I'm sure that your daughter will be pleased with your choice. Way to go mom!!

Cute little guy! Does he like the bath or was it an accident. Mine don't bother with the bath much!
