  1. Well it is actually Star! She has been going bananas on the thing for awhile now. It is actually funny. Its like she is trying to destroy it. Funny thing though, she is also starting to crawl into the food cups. Is she possibly preparing for breeding? I'm not putting a nesting box in so there is nothing other than mother nature to tempt them. It is spring here now though. I'm off today so I'll have lots of opportunity to watch the goings on.

AWWWWE! Alfies a real cutie. I hope that my new pied turns more yellow all over with his first molt.
  3. For the last few days I have come home to HUGE piles of cuttlebone on the floor. Previously I hardly saw a budgie touch the stuff, and now this? In just observing them for a second this morning, I'm assuming that it is Puddin and Daffodil, some of my older hens (but still under a year), but really it could be any of them. What could be up? Is it a deficiency? These guys get tons of mixed gourmet seed, veggies, fresh water, etc. Is it destuctive behaviour? Just curious. Everyone is acting fine and looks healthy.
  4. OUCHERS!!! None of my guys are that crazy for millet.
  5. He is a cutie Kirby. You can really see the spangle in him. Much more so than in your female!
  6. I don't know if they are related. They came in the same shipment to the petsore so it is very likely. I was actually thinking that they might be because the yellow is so similar on both of them. Could an creamino and a pied come from the same clutch?
  7. He definately looks like my Sylvester who is a dilute YF2. Does he possilbly have scaly face - his beak looks a little off in the second picture. There are lots of pictures of Sylvester on the board, especially in the budgie pictures section.
  8. He's a cutie Kirby. Did his parents pluck him?
  9. I'm so happy. I got to bring my two precious babies home today. My darling little Creamino, and a beautiful recessive pied yellowface. I haven't decided on names yet. I think the Creamino may be a female and if so the name will be probably be Pearl. Haven't got any idea what to call the pied. I'm pretty sure its a male. I've already had the Creamino on my finger which shocked me. I was putting the water dish in the cage, and I just brushed my finger up and s/he climbed on. I'm in budgie love yet again!!! So what do you think?
  10. My budgies are molting too. Seems that there is always one molting. And not one feather stays in the cage - even the big ones. They all fall on the floor. So.... I"m buying an i-robot roomba automatic vaccuum. It is on raincheck right now and I can't wait for it to get here. I've been dragging the central vac out daily to deal with the feathers.
  11. It must be a sight to behold. :hap:
  12. That 3rd picture is the best bath picture ever. OMG. He is quite the character!!! I LOVE it.
  13. I'm really tempted to get the DF Spangle or DEC. I'll see if he is still there on the weekend. Pets Unlimited I'm sure is like a Petco or SuperPet. There are lots of them in the province and 5 or 6 in the Halifax area.
  14. I read somewhere that DEC's have plum eyes and double factor spangles have black eyes. I don't recall his eyes being plum and they definately weren't red. He is all yellow.
  15. Well you've seen pics of mine. It is basically the one you are looking at times 2. I have 8 budgies. There is a ton of room (except at night when they all want the same spot ) I would say you could house 4 very comfortably, maybe even 6. I don't think the second one is very good. It looks like it is made of the softer wire. I have a small flight cage made of the stuff and it is okay for quarantine or breeding. My big cage is made of heavy duty stuff!
  16. They were pretty good last night I must say. I'm sure I have 3 males and 5 females. I think the females are squabbling for dominant position but the males can get their noses in it too. I have already removed some of the toys and there are 3 big branch perches at various heights. I put a dowl perch on the highest rung. But they still gravitate to the calcium and cement perches at night. I'm going to do a major cleaning this weekend and will shuffle everythign around and see how things go. Thanks for the feedback.
  17. Hmmm! It may be worth buying him. He's a cutie and even if he is a Dark Eyed Clear he'd make a great addition to the flock. I need a few more males to balance things out!!! I'd be thrilled though if he were a double factor spangle. If I mated him with my YF2 female could I end up with YF2 spangles - my favourite coloured budgie??? Or would I get green spangles?
  18. Thanks everyone. Thought I'd throw this one in the mix. There is a dark eyed clear or double factor spangle at a local pet store. Think it is a male. I'm leaning toward double factor spangle because they eyes aren't plum. Anyway, what might he produce? What I'm really asking is will he produce any spangles paired with what I have if he is indeed a double factor spangle?
  19. Sounds like a great deal! Are you expanding your flock
  20. Didn't look closely Lovey - does it have free shipping? If not, I think you can get them for less from places like birdcagemart. Saw one similar for $129 no shipping.
  21. Great flying picture! He's so cute!
  22. I know they aren't old enough Kirby - I'm just curious more than anything. I don't even think I have one bird that is a year old. Thought I'd throw the question out there and see if there was anything I wasn't thinking of. I think of it as a way to learn more about genetics. And sure enough I didn't think about the clearflight and recessive pied to get a dark eyed clear. So thanks Nerwen.

Oh please ship those spangles to Canada. We need some really nice spangle blood here I think - at least in Nova Scotia. Not a spangle to be found anywhere :fear Gorgeous!!!!

    :fear :hap:
  25. You've all met my budgies before. I plan on breeding this fall/winter at least one clutch. I'm not sure which birds I will end up putting up for breeding. I'm going to observe them through the summer and see if there are any natural pairings. But... I thought I would tell you guys what I have and perhaps you can recommend some possible pairings that will not yield normal greens or normal blues. I have: Male Dilute YF2 (possibly goldenface) Female Dilute Sky Opaline Female Dilute Green Female Cobalt Opaline Female Dark Green Clearflight Pied (one dark factor) Male Cinammon Recessive Pied (possibly violet) Male YF2 (probably goldenface) Female opaline YF2 Male Creamino (at least I hope its male). - Friday I'll be picking him up. NOTE: The dilute sky blue and dilute yf2 are likely siblings so they can't be paired. Pictures of all but creamino can be seen in this post http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=9205
