  1. I sure do. I'm sending virtual hugs her way.

I have dowel perches on either end up high to allow max flight space (mine is twice the length of yours) and a high night resting spot. I also have natural branch perches that run the full length of each half about the mid height point of the cage. I have small calcium perches and a few other dowels down low. I would suggest keeping your middle up high open as much as possible. You can have a high perch just keep it near the back or front of the cage. Branch perches will work nicely in the middle and can just slide between the bars - no harware required. You can check out the first video in http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=9822 to get an idea of how mine is set up.
  3. Great news! She is such a beauty.
  4. It does help. I will be using light from now on. And this may serve two purposes as there have been some break-ins around here lately.
  5. In the petstore where I have bought 6 of my 11 budgies, they are housed together on an open tree with tiels and lovebirds. They must have some issues, but every time I go in they all seem to be geting along fine. I'm going to ask next time I'm in what they do when they don't get a long, and what they do with them at night when the store is empty. Makes me nervous for them when I hear this stuff.

I'm not a breeder yet, but I think a lot of people here recommend cages. When I do breed I will use individual cages for my breeding pairs. I believe one of the concerns about colony breeding is other hens attacking the chicks. I'm sure there are many other concerns too.
  7. Well mine are indoor birds. I have no problem leaving a light on for them. I have been turning it off because I thought they needed complete darkness to get a good rest. It was in fact almost the second the light went out and tv went off last night that they started freaking out. I immediately pulled their cover off and turned on lights to reassure them but it took awhile for them to settle down. I decided to leave their cover off for the night.
  8. he's not pied, no pied patch(that I can see) on the back of the head nor does he have recessive pied markings, looks like he's going through a molt, thats probly what made you think pied? Here is his little spot. Oh, he is just so cute!!!! Yeah, I did. I left the store, went out for dinner, and just had to go back and get him. Finger's crossed that he will tame really well - so far so good.
  9. Max definately has a pied spot - I'll get a picture in the morning. He basically had a twin at the petstore - same colouring with just the small pied spot. But no banding at all on the tummy.
  10. Every once in awhile my birds will get spooked at night and there is a flurry of flying birds in the cage. What causes this and is there any way it can be prevented? Tonight they had a spell and I noticed a bit of blood on Sylvester's feather near the quill. He is okay. But I worry about more broken feathers or even worse a broken wing.
  11. :ausb: Those are hysterical!!! Poor Pretty!
  12. I just introduced Max in Bringing Home a New Budgie. I'm just wondering what is his mutation is? He has a yellow face, yellow pied spot, and has a beautiful grey belly with a little grey green colour near his tail.
  13. Oh Fluffy is beautiful too!!!!

Oh she is so pretty. I love the different shots of her.
  15. I know I've said I wasn't going to get any more budgies unless I could find my YF2 spangle. But I was out buying seed tonight and I just couldn't resist this little man! He is the most beautiful shade of grey. He seems to have a sweet little personality too! I've named him Maximillian - Max for short. This is the first time I've bought a budgie without a buddy, so I really hope I can "tame" him during his quarantine. Here is Max. :ausb:

You HAVE the budgies of your dreams already ...they are gorgeous I do Karen - you are right!!!! My babies are all gorgeous!!! And I picked them all because I thought they were gorgeous and I have almost 3000 pictures of them to prove it. But I love the YF2 spangle mutation so much. I just think they are so so so so so pretty. Maybe they appeal to me more because I can't find one anywhere. So keep posting pics of yours and I will enjoy them that way. And one day - even if I have to breed my own I will have my YF2 spangle. Guess I need to find a spangle though first :fear
  17. I love my cage too. I got it from birdcagemart.com. It was very reasonably priced I think - $219. US dollars. I had to pay shipping because I'm in Canada so it ended up costing about $400 Canadian dollars. I've look at cages 1/4 of the size in local petsores and they are about $200 Canadian, so I feel I got a good deal. And it has given me the room to expand my flock from 2 to 10 so that makes me very happy :fear .
  18. She is so beautiful. My favourite mutation combo. Glad she is improving.

So did the vet think the quails were the source? Or is this an airborne thing?
  20. Shawna replied to Cheeta's topic in Budgie Pictures
Awwe. She looks so cute all fluffed up. I guess she really enjoys the water?
  21. Looks like mama is feeding them well
  22. Can you post more pics - a little closer so we can see the wings and belly colour. Looks like a real beauty you have there.
  23. Looks like they are really enjoying their snacks!
  24. Shawna replied to Boomberry's topic in Budgie Pictures
I'm so jealous! Everyone is managing to get the budgie of my dreams but me. She is beautiful!
  25. Lovey, I've had no problems introducing to date. But I haven't had a single bird. It has always been two meeting two or two meeting more than two. I do have the occasional night time squabble, but other than that they love each other. Perhaps Pretty won't have been in the cage long enough to become territorial? It wil be new to him too? Good luck whatever you choose.
