My Budgies Have Started Chewing Furniture
macka glad to have your sense of humor back we missed you :glare: Kaz is right they don't look at your stuff and say oh she bought this and that they say want a wonderful place to live and chew. Give them branches to chew on in their cage that will help stimulate this behavior in the right place. When you let them out I would not let them do it by letting them know you don't like it if they are high up you can use a long dowel perch to have them step up if then don't and they just fly away that is okay. Exercise your birds, what I do is I have Merlin go back and forth by using a dowel perch to stimulate him to fly. If you get them flying and exercising by the time they are done they will want to relax not be bored and chew everything apart. .

Please Help - I'm Worried About My Budgie And Don't Know What
he is cute, let us know how taking alway the shiny toys and mirrors works, you will probably find he will start calling for these toys and becoming a bit noiser but that is okay, after a week he will settle down and start to focus on you. don't feel like you feel mean in reality it is meaner to keep this bird in a state of obessive complusive behavior could you imagine living in that state yourself, it would be not healthy, so what you are doing is actully snapping him out of this mind set and bringing him back to a healthy state again. keep us updated

Weaning Hand Raised Budgie
I am no expert but I would think that all babies wean differently, continue to offer him seeds, veggies and a different varitiey of foods and I am sure as he continue to test things he is going to wean better each day.

Budgie Noise
well I can hear Merlin outside if the doors are all shut and I am outside in my backyard (so I would say around 15 ft from the house), and in the summer well if you are around the house outside you can hear him especially when he is chattering a storm. I found Pretty and Merlin together were really a racket (Laughing out loud) I can't imagine having 11 in one room right next too me I would have to get an outside aviary too.

New Pics
oh wow they really are not into each other...when they were in the aviary did you notice that they paired up with another color bird? I have read that budgies can be attracted to their mates color? So did they hang around another bird of a different color...I know this is a crazy notion but I did read it

Pics Of Henry
yes male opalines are blue unless it is an opaline recessive pied or it comes with a mutation that the cere doesn't change but regular opalines will have blue ceres.

Pics Of Henry
a baby for sure, I don't see iris rings in yet, still has the bar lines and he has that baby look, going to reserve my thought for boy or girl because the cere is odd at that age not a pink but more a blue that could be turning into a deeper blue possibility? I had that happen with Merlin when it started to change over from pink to blue.

Pips Photo
I agree he is a cutie and he reminds me of Merlin's colors. All baby budgies' ceres are pink the intensity of the pink, large white nasal rings help identify the sex.

I have so many but my favorite is when Merlin really interacts with me, I know it makes me feel very special- New Pics
Cute captions for the first 2 pics I love it, how long have the 2 been in a breeding cage together (the ones that are not interested).- ? Could Dottie Be Sick
pictures would really help out here and a call to your avian vet sounds in order, I would not wait.- Understanding The Mating Table
Ikon is correct and the mating table is okay because the sex-linked varieties it does specifiy cock or hen- Hobbes& Claire's Taming Journal
everything is going wonderfully it sounds you are doing a wonderful job- I've Got Number 4
you received great advice from Kaz and I agree with her on the age looks very young. I got Merlin at 11 wks and he didn't look that young. (looks male to me though according to my screen )- Family Tree With Breeding
Exactly as said above, just like we have a family tree. For example, both my kids have blue eyes but my husband and I both have brown, we can look into our lineage and know that Tim's dad has blue eyes so that means that Tim carried this gene...now I am adopted so I only assume that I also have the gene (because since I don't know my family history it is based on trial and error of mating ) But if I would have known I had blue eyes in my lineage both my kids having blue eyes would have not been such a surprise. . Both parents need to carry the blue eyed gene to have blue eyed kids...hope that is as clear as mud...- Understanding The Mating Table
the key to understanding the sex-linked gene is understanding how they work and once you get that then they all work the same . I knew a little genetics before I learned this so it came quicker but this is what you remember. Male (carries the sex-linked gene) - gives it to all his female off spring and you can see the mutation visually no matter what. Female (carries the sex-linked gene) - gives to her male offspring and they will only be split (or the gene will be hidden) so that is why it is good to keep breeding records. The Male will only show it receives 2 of the sex-linked genes from both parents. That may help a little .- Understanding The Mating Table
The outcomes are different because of the opaline gene being sex-linked the first pair the hen would give the opaline gene to her male off-spring but they would be split not visual the second pair the cock would give the opaline gene to all his hen off-spring and they would be visual opaline - The Thing You Love Most
