That is one of my favorite activities with Merlin is watching him bath...I splash my fingers in the water and he gets all ruffled up and dives right in.
  3. There are so many excellent submissions from our "feathered" flock to "wild" bird pictures. It is time for our general membership to decide who WINS to be named cutest "feathered friend" for the month of April. There were so many submissions I needed to split it down into 3 separate voting sections so the TOP 3 will then be a finalist VOTE which will be occur after all the voting closes. There are 10 pictures in each section and the section is divided by the words "voting continued" to have your vote go through you must vote for 1 photo in each section. If you need assistance let anyone of our board moderators know. There are a couple of links that are not images you can copy and paste them into your browser to see the picture as they were not resized correctly or not coming up correctly as an image. Anyone can vote, get your friends registered on the boards so they can vote too !! Voting closes on April 7th at midnight (United States EST time) for some in AU that would be April 8th so that gives you 1 week to decide. We also are going to run "4-Paws Contest" in Off Topic so keep a look out!!!
  4. You don't have to get the opposite sex you can also get another female too so you don't have an unwanted clutch (it does happen but not often) and when you are ready to go forth with a breeding program you could then introduce males into the pictures. Just my opinion
  5. Put in your best entry for Budgie of the Month. Every one has until the 30st of April to enter a picture. Three judges have been picked for this months judging, all other members/site promoters/G.Mods are welcome to enter. One picture per member per month. Please remember to keep to the board rules of 450 maximum. If this is not met then you picture will not be accepted. Any post you make to this thread will not show up so please do not repost. Good luck to all that enter. Read here on how to post pictures within guide regulation Photo Regulations/How to Post OFF TOPIC: IF YOU HAVE PICTURES OF any 4- Legged Animals that you would love to share then CLICK HERE to participate in our OFF TOPIC Photo Contest.

I think there is more underlying reasons for her illness then an air duct (but you are right they should not be by them). Have they done a gram stain on her poos to determine if she has anything in her intestines that could be causing this frequent occurance? I suggest taking her back to an avian vet (and if you already are doing an avian vet) I would maybe get a second opinion if this test has not yet been done because that is actually a routine test they do for a physical yearly.
  7. This is why I love males too but thinking of her situation and the noise I would hate for her to get complaints because the boys can get so noisey so that is why I put it out there...more food for thought.
  8. Yes Yes....Aly I asked the higher up and didn't get anywhere with sub titles but we can put it in the breeding section for sure

If you are doing it 1st thing in the morning remember when they sleep they are fluffed up and their feet are all under them so they would be warmer as the day goes on and they are eating and doing normal activity they do cool down and then in the case of flying around and such they warm up again . It is very normal and I have experience it with both my budgies. I have learned my knowledge from just experiencing it with my own birds, others here on the boards and reading .
  10. You received excellent advice one thing to remember is that budgies do prefer seed over anything new so it can take months to convert them but don't give up. It took me a couple months to get Pretty converted over but once he did it was such a joy to see him enjoying his veggies more then his seed.

how cool is that and what a great feeling
  12. That is so awesome birdluv in a few more days they will be running up to the cage to see you , what a wonderful journal to read daily here it brings such positiveness to budgie taming.
  13. Completely agree with what everyone has said that cage is not even good for quaratine because that is when they try to get out the most throw it up on e-bay, craigslist or in the newspaper and purchase a new one for sure .

I find this topic always so interesting but then I don't have an aviary either. Both Pretty & Merlin where never treated for mites or wormed but in AU it seems more a common practice? I can see why with a large aviary but with a pet situation?

that is what happened when Pretty died we had really cold weather, then it got very warm humid and damp and then cold so that all happened within a week, that is why I keep my room at a constant temp now with my heater something I couldn't do before.
  16. Elly replied to toohp's topic in General Discussions
excellent point Daz the drafts are what really makes the difference too.
  17. excellent photo shoot
  18. Elly replied to toohp's topic in General Discussions
What I do is I keep Merlin in my computer room with a small heater and I keep it around 75F because last year my house was too cool and I believe that is how Pretty got sick and sadly went over Rainbow Bridge. You don't need a heat lamp on them all the time only if they are in a hospital cage because they are unwell. Here is information about tempature in a hospital cage plus more http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...hlight=hospital
  19. Yes just keep her warm and keep an eye on her poos and continued quiet behavior. I noticed Merlin became more quiet too but I really kept on eye on him so it didn't get worse.
  20. Michelle, you can PM Aly aka Feathers or maybe she will see this post too or you can do a search for her post on French Molt and her opinion which is good. I have seen many topics started so doing a quick search on the forum will bring up some discussion.
  21. I would be careful about using scented oils or what you are using for your experiments because budgies respiratory lines in their lungs are so fragile that is why it is recommended not to use air freshners, candles, cleaning products, tephlon for cooking and other products.
  22. I look forward to the outcomes of this beautiful pair
  23. congrats, you got a lot of great advice I have been reading here and there Make sure your get that from your landlord in writing that you are allowed the budgies. I don't know what type of apartment you live in or if your walls are thin but 2 males are going to be louder then 2 females. I love males because of their exciting nature and the fact that I don't have to worry about any egg issues but when considering an apartment setting you may want to go with 2 females because they they are not quiet quiet they don't tend to make as much racket as 2 males. .
  24. oh my goodness look at that...how cute we have a cage that is similar to that and have read that those types of doors can actually do some pretty serious damage if it falls on their necks..but you probably tied them down since they figured out that those are fun doors to play with .
