Care Sheets!
One of my friends has decided that he would like to get a couple of Budgies for his small children, his kids are really young but i'm confident that they will always be fully supervised. Anyway I told him that Id raise two for him like i've done with Apple, Mig and Munchy so they are ultra friendly and more than use to handling etc.. I know they will be going to a great home but it is always hard letting go of your "kids". Id like to make up a Care Sheet to give to him just so i can be sure they will get off to a great start, even though i live close i just want to make sure it goes perfect for my babys.. Any Ideas on where to start? i'm at a loss of what to actually put on it or even how to set it out, I remember reading posts that a few of you make care sheets and would really appreciate help on the topic, so far i've got NOTHING .. I have three babys in the nesting box now that should fledge in a few days but i'm going to suggest to him the next clutch so that i can work with them a little more.. actually mainly because i'm already attatched to my babies All help would be greatly appreciated.. Cheers  Una

My Bird Avairy
Great looking aviary you have there.. My birds also love to perch on thick ropes too, although they don't seem QUITE as keen as BB's budgies .. I have a few pots in the aviary that just contain Natural Grasses, they grow really lush and the budgies love the fact they can munch on it, and after it goes to seed it dies off so i chop it all back into little stalks and in a week or so it starts all over again Also i love and have planted a few different types of Heleconias and Gingers.. They also grow quite lush and the flowers are amazing... Cheers  Una

More Extensions!
I have added the aviary that i picked up for $100 to the existing aviary and made a little corridor so i can easily separate the two with a blind of some sort if ever i need to.. This is the old extensions....(the back section) And this is the NEW AND IMPROVED Extension  .... this is obviously from the inside... Oh yeah this is also the naughty Natural Brushwood screen that has Quarantine freaking out.. And this is her from the outside Not a bad aviary i picked up cheap, Hope you like it more than my birds seem too They are still happy to just hang out in the shed part of the original aviary and come out only to get a lil fresh air, flap about or when they are enjoying the rain.. Cheers  Una

bird flu
A few days ago I bought a Natural Brushwood Screen to put in the aviary to make it look pretty.. I've done a few extensions and found a great place to put it, so i dragged the bag it came in, into the aviary and unpacked it ready for hanging... I'm not sure what made me look but i read the label and discovered it was infact made in China, anyway I had it all unpacked and ready to hang and as i start to unroll it guess what fell out..........CHICKEN FEATHERS As i unwrapped more chicken feathers were falling out and blowing away... A quick call to quarantine and i was advised to wash my hands REALLY WELL and to collect all the feathers and keep them in a sealed plastic bag They are going to get someone from Quarantine to come and check it all out ASAP (Tuesday) ... It kinnda sucks thinking this is how easy it could be to get such a dreadfully deadly disease into the country.. I have another screen that i was going to hang up but i think i will wait until after Tuesday Cheers  Una

Butcher Birds
I was out in the aviary yesterday and this bird on the outside couldn't see me, He was sitting in the trees staling the budgies flying about in the aviary At one stage he landed on the aviary wire right above me (stupid bird) ... Anyway I have absolutely no idea what kind of bird he was, he was all Black and the same shape and size of a Butcher Bird but he didn't have a hook on the end of his long pointy beak and also his tail seemed to sorta fan out a little ..Anyone have any ideas what he might have been? Cheers  Una

Wood Shavings!
In the next few days ill do a bit of a phone around and see if i cant source out a good supplier.. If i cant i will most definitely pm you my address.. At the moment i'm using shredded paper towels, its better than nothing.. I have three chicks in the nest although 6 actually hatched The oldest one is a SUPER BUDGIE and seems to be so much bigger than any others i've had before.. In his moving about he has managed to squash the 3 youngest ones But with big budgies comes BIG POOPS .... I've never added anything to the nesting boxes till now and think it could be a wise investment getting some shavings (nothing worse than a wet nesting box with fat poop covered babies in it )

Wood Shavings!
This is another reason i hate living so remote I have no pet produce stores and nobody does woodturning (Laughing out loud).. I'm use to doing nearly all of my ordering online or over the telephone and the closest pet barn and stores i have near me... well the Pet Barn needs a swift kick up the backside (i don't like how they go about and keep their animals) and the pet stores are way way over priced oh and they are still over 900ks away anyway.. So i was thinking if anyone knew of a good site which sold them id be more than happy to purchase Oz wide..
-
Wood Shavings!
For the life of me i just cannot find a pet store online that I can purchase wood shavings from I'm sure there must be one somewhere hiding from me.. If anyone knows of somewhere i can order some online Id greatly appreciate it. Cheers  Una
