I would recommend that you use breeding cages instead of just putting boxes in the aviary. When i tried colony breeding all my hens fought over one box, threw out each others eggs, bit each other. One of my hens has no toes and the others were all bleeding and horrible. It's not a nice experience. :nest: For colony breeding to work i have read that you need 2 cocks for every hen and 3 nest boxes for each breeding pair. All nest boxes should be the same style and shape because hens are really picky.

I was wondering the same thing yesterday! I haven't found anything on them though so i'm not sure. I was thinking that they might be too fatty but i'm not too sure.....maybe something like pine nuts would be okay but definitely wait until someone more wise comes along. :nest:

I've started giving my budgies fresh vegies everyday instead of a few times a week. They get lettuce, celery, brocolli, snow pea sprouts, alfalfa sprouts and today i was going to try some carrot. :nest: Blinkie's a bit harder though. He gets snow pea sprouts in the morning (he sometimes nibbles them, sometimes doesn't) and a piece of celery with leaves in the afternoon. Starting last night i've been adding brocolli buds to his seeds which he appears to be eating. I think i'll try to get some baby corn budgeover, what a great idea! And i want to get spinach (even though i hate it) because wouldn't that have more vitamins than lettuce???
  5. Has she had any wet vegies which she might be rubbing up against?? She may have had a bath and her face still hadn't dried. Was there any dew on the cage bars which she might have rubbed against??
  6. Yeah...except i accidently scratched the cut because i thought it was some dirt or something. Hehe. I wish Blinkie would roll in any leafy thing....but he's only interested in celery. :glare:
  7. I just had a thought today. How do you catch birds in your giant aviary?

Hehe...Blinkie's always after my food but i doubt it's because of the smell. He just enjoys stealing from me. :nest:

Won't they be green? Because green is dominant to blue.......ah, i dunno! They're sooooo cute!!!

Well, what would they smell??? Wait....they're sensitive to certain smells like air freshner, some kitchen smells, etc. So doesn't that mean they have to have a sense of smell???

I was about to argue the same thing....though they might just use them for breathing.
  12. I wonder what it is about celery??? Maybe it's like drugs for budgies? :(Laughing out loud):
  13. Well his latest 'thing' is sitting on my nose when i watch TV in the dark! I have a scratch on the side of my nose because he held on too tight.

http://groups.msn.com/BirdLoversInternatio...to&PhotoID=7885 There you go. They're so cute! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Those must be older than 1 week! :grbud: Mine didn't show any colour at all at one week and only had some spikeys. Here's Squeak at about 1 and a half weeks.
  16. I've been limiting the amount of celery i've been giving Blinkie in the hope that he might try something new. He's had a little nibble of apple, a chew of alfalfa sprouts, he cautiously sampled some lettuce and he also tried a teeny bit of snow pea sprouts. Today i decided to let him have some celery leaves, they're his favourite food in the whole world. Well, he obviously had been missing it! Look at how excited he got..... "Ah....my good friend celery!" "Oooo....how i've missed you!!" "I'm gonna eat you up..." :grbud: Where's Blinkie??? Where's Blinkie??? There he is!!! Is that still a budgie????? "Time for a break i think!" "And a little itty scratch." :(Laughing out loud): Nice hair dude! The whole time he was making out with the celery he was making these little overwhelmed tweets! They were so cute! Hehe....i think we need a celery addicts support group!
  17. Yes. He actually tries to mate with the mirror too.

  19. Yep, but it wouldn't be much fun for us to have to live in the dark.

Nope, if they are distracting them then take them out. Just make sure to give them lots of other interesting toys instead.

Great news! Sounds like he was extremely happy to see you!

A hen is capable of raising chicks on her own. Some breeders have one prize male and breed it to several hens and then the hens raise the chicks on their own. Doing this takes a lot out of a hen so a nice long rest after the chicks leave the box is required.

Great news! Be sure to tell us everything the vet says so we can all become more smarter!
  24. Sure does! He goes right beck to his baby sweetness in the dark!
  25. (Laughing out loud)! Yeah, that'd be right! I always get the crazy ones! Although he is so cute when i'm watching tv in the dark. If i cup my hand he comes and lays in it and falls asleep! I think he feels safe in my hand.
