I would bring him inside....you don't want him to get hurt. How old is he?? Can he eat seed yet?
  2. Bea replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
Of course they can breed. How else would there be more and more.....there wouldn't be many if you only got them at random.
  3. Is your vet an avian vet? You should take your budgie to an avian vet.

Oooo. When i had to try to feed Lemon and Lime mum's friend told me to blend up some museli (one with not too much fruit) and use that with some warm water mixed in. Just an idea if anyone needs some emergency baby food,

I wish i had a funny vet. :(Laughing out loud): It's great that Merlin is on the mend.

    :bluebudgie: Why?
  9. Bea replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
If Mr Burns's crop is always full then there should be no need for extra feeding. The youngest chick always develop slower and his legs might have slowed things down too.

Awww.....they're so beautiful! Makes me want some more baby budgies! :bluebudgie:

Both can start after 1 year and females should be stopped at about 3 years. Males can just go their whole lives i think....

:bluebudgie: I'm speechless, i would like to strangle the ******** who did this to you. I'm so sorry, i hope you can recover some of your missing birds.

Why on earth would anyone hold their budgie by it's tail???
  14. Bea replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
Maybe they tried to get out of the egg but got tired. They would probably be dead by now though....there might be another reason though.

I've read about it in a horse book....it's when you breed a baby back to a parent or brother/sister/aunt/uncle to bring out a certain trait. I don't see how it's any different to inbreeding though.

    Banana scented rope perch
  18. Bea replied to a post in a topic in Budgie Talk
Yeah right......anyway, today i found some banana scented rope perches on ebay. Weird yes...but doesn't that indicate they can smell?
  19. Hehe, no problem! Have you seen the picture of Blinkie flopped over in his celery? He looks totally dead! Blinkie's sleepy head Have a look at that. Seriously, hardly anything seems weird with all the ***** things my birds do!

You're very strong then, not getting attatched to the babies!
  21. But it's so tall! How do you convince them to come down???
  22. Bea replied to james2701's topic in Breeders Discussion
I plan too. It's all very exciting! I plan to sell some babies but it's very hard not to get attatched to them. At least 2 of them have good homes...the others will probably end up staying with me.
  23. Bea replied to james2701's topic in Breeders Discussion
If you colony breed you can't be certain of who the father is and yes, eventually you will probably get inbreeding. It's more work than it's worth i think. The cost of a couple of breeding cages isn't that much and it would save a lot of trouble.
  24. Hehe....well my budgie Jasper doesn't just dunk his head, he dives in completely!

I would just like to say that this topic is very one sided. I personally don't have a problem with wing clipping as long as it isn't really severe. The bird can still fly, they just can't fly up. If your bird just flops to the floor then the feathers haven't been clipped correctly. Having the feathers trimmed can help keep your bird out of trouble.
