I was just wondering if the loud noise from a chainsaw chopping down the gum tree would be traumatic to my budgies. The tree is reight near the aviary but i only have one other cage that definitely would not fit 15 budgies in it. Do you think they'll be alright? Should i cover them while it's being cut down so they can't see what's happening?
  2. You shouldn't breed until they are about 1 year old...some prefer to wait until 18 months. Any younger than that and they're not emotionally ready for the strain of raising a clutch and possibly won't know what to do with any babies that hatch.

How exciting!! The mumbling is a cute budgie thing...i think they do it when they're happy.

(Laughing out loud)...Gypsy is really testing your limits! :(Laughing out loud): Maybe you should try breeding with a hen that lets you check the box more often.

:grbud: I want to to get a Blinkie too and it can't be a Blinkie if it's not blue. Everyone....put your thoughts and prayers together and lets get this egg to hatch!

Let's hope she keeps sitting on that last egg. Perhaps the ones she tossed were infertile? You'll get your baby Lin! Don't worry! :grbud:

If the parents have a history of abandoning the chicks when you interfer then don't do it. If it's really necessary then you should only empty out the poop, not wash or scrub the box. :grbud:
  8. If she'll sit on your finger then the more time you spend with her the more bonded to you she'll become and the more she'll want to be with you. :grbud: If she's finger tame then there should be little need to actually 'hold' her but if you ever need to check her over the best and safest way to hold a budgie is with their back in the palm of your hand with you index and middle finger on either side of their neck and you thumb and other fingers around her middle. Don't squeeze or anything though, just gently restrain.

How did his tail come out? Were you holding him by the tail? :grbud: If there was no blood anywhere then he'll be fine and the feathers will just grow back. He may be a bit unbalanced when he flies for a while though.
  10. I was just thinking....i didn't think budgies smelt. Blinkie doesn't smell enough to stink out a room.
  11. I'm not sure what it could be. Is it just a little cut or something? :grbud: If it's only little then it should heal itself but maybe not if she's picking at it. Does she pick it so much it bleeds?

I just thought that they wouldn't have much energy or anything. I asked because koala's who live on them have so little energy because they are mainly water or something like that. :grbud:

    Good job! :grbud:
  14. How about you get hold of some gum leaves and scrunch them up so that they release a lovely eucalypt smell?
  15. Bea posted a topic in Food And Nutrition
Just fed my budgies a huge branch of gum leaves and of course they dived right in. I was just wondering are gum leaves nutritious or just really tasty?
  16. WELCOME!! Love the second picture!! It's so cute!
  17. Isn't it amazing what they can do with balls? :(Laughing out loud): Blinkie's best trick has to be hanging from the ladder with one leg and holding the ball in the other!

I wouldn't use it. I'd be too scared that it would hurt my budgies.
