Oh Karen you can get a Fidos Rinse at a Vet shop. It is a Pyrethrins base dose that you can mix up and either dunk the birds or spray the aviary. It is safe for use with the birds and does the trick beautifully. Cost is $16.50au and it will do heaps. It is made for dogs but you can use it on budgerigars. Got it from an Avarian Vet when Greeny got checked.

Nerwen it's funny that. They have the breeding cages for closed breeding and then the breeding boxes for communal... I just installed a feed window to my aviary.They are great. I'll try to post a photo tomorrow. Too dark now.

No the last try this season is for Cinnamon and Ash. I hope they go okay. I think it will be too hot other wise.

I think your right Nerwen. The one when they are all eating is too over exposed for me. It would have been a good one to see. Can you get another phot of them all looking at the camera and don't over expose the photo. This is Huey - Girl

A good idea is to put a small amount of seed or a millet spray in the nest box so that they can practice. You usually find it gone very quickly.

I checked the nest box this morning to see how the last two eggs where going. I found 1 dead chick and the other egg missing. The chick must have hatch through the night and didn't make it. Well as promised Bluey and Spangle, this was there 2nd round and I said I would rest them. So I gave them both a kiss on the back of the head and put them back in the aviary. Tiny, one of their first chicks, must still remember them as he flew straight to them. Well it's november and I will try one last time. The temperature is still okay. and I have given Ash and Cinnamon one go. If nothing by the end of November. Back in the Aviary and breeding will stop until March 06. Not a good start. 9 eggs. 4 chicks (2 dead), 5 broken eggs One failed pairing.....I am not counting Huey and Greeny as Huey turned out to be a female. :fear

Way to Go Hommer Good to see that the vet was happy with Hommer's Condition. It is always good to have a good report from a vet.

As hommer says If Hommer (the budgie) need help to feed himself, How do you put him on a diet? I think Hommer is doing a great job with Hommer to have Hommer at such an old age. I don't think there is any neglect here.

I would emagine that similar problems could be found in other countries, but it might be wise for everyone to check what poision problems they have in their own countries. Some of the listed food many be okay and there maybe other foods to be included.

Diet Time for Hommer. Try Friut and Vegtables and Finch Seed mix. Add two drops of cold Press non Homoginised Garlic oil to the Seed mix. This is very nutricious and good for them. It will also bring them back in weight in a correct way. As the vet said that gave me this diet. They will be lean mean and *****. ...and ready for breeding.

In one of my breeding books it talks of having the Perches so that the male can dart back and forth....let me see where is it.... Ah here it is.....Two perches, placed at an equal height on opposite ends of the breeding cage are superior to one perch running the length of the cage, for encouraging mating behaviours. In normal mating behaviour the cock will fly from one perch to another either followed by the hen or the hen remains on the perch for his return. This is followed by side walking, where both the hen and the cock walk sideways from one end of the perch to another. Then the cock bird faces the hen in forward display, where his cap feather and spots are thrust forward. okay i'll stop it there. That goes in to some interesting bits
