Keeping Cool For Summer
Air Conditioner You can put a wet tea towel over half the cage and as the wind blows through it, it will cool the birds. Got to keep the towel wet though.

Hows FiFi doing ? any news?

Genetic Lessons
So because the markings on the wings is lighter than a greywing it would be a clear wing any lighter and he would be a dilute. And since the body colour is top banded he would be a dominant Pied. ....Yes?

Here is a good site explaining a Hospital Cage. it is for finches but work all right for Budgies.

Bluey Is On A Diet!
I would just change his seed to finch seed and make sure he has plenty of fresh fruit and vegitables.

Urgent Help Please
Dawn, Remove the eggs as she lays them and replace them with marbles or plastic eggs. When the chicks have fledged remove the hen and take away the nest box. She will be okay. Turn the light of at night. The hens can feed the chicks in the dark. How old are the chicks? They should be about 30 days by the time the hen starts the new clutch. 40 days is old enought for them to come out of the nest. Some people leave them in until 50 days. I took Tiny and Chirpy out at 40 days and had them in a cage of there own so I could monitor them to make sure they were eating and drinking okay. 10 days latter I place Tiny in the avary and Chirpy in the house. They are okay.

Is Fifi Sick? Help Needed!
You have a sick Budgie. I would surgest separating them even since they wont want it. Put FiFi in to a hospital cage. If you can get to see an avian vet, good. At the worst try to get some antibiotics from a pet store and put fifi on it straight away. Do you know how to set up a hospital cage? You will need one even if you take him to a vet.

New Additions
Nerwen she looks to have pink eyes. She also has brown markings on her wings. With out the eyes I was thinking Dilute but fallow now comes to mind???? I'll try to get a better picture of her. Karen have you had any cinnamons or fallows in your flock? http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darrylw/Budgie030.jpg Here you go - Lisa

White Budgies.
Daz- you bowl me over, i have always though ones like this as sky blue and looking like that from the flash of camera, but i wonder if this is the way to spot a double factor parblue. Sorry Nerwen He can't be a parblue as type I is yellow faced type II is goldenface. I don't know if you can get a parblue with a white face? The way I see a parblue is the bleed of the face into the feathers. Harry is more green than blue? But Aqua? I have never heard of one. A ParblueBlue is more green.

When I have the room to steal some of your babies :dbb1: They look great Daz and lucky you, I'm an itching to get some more, but i don't have the room....yet. You sure Lisa doesn't have red eyes? or it's just the picture that looks like it. I have to have another look. I am thinking she is a dilute, but I'll try and get another photo.

White Budgies.
Jelly looks to me like a sky blue and Max is interesting. He has a spot on the back of head like a pied, but his cere is coloured so he is not recessive. Also his beak is not orange. Can you get another picture of him standing up?

How Old To Breed?
I agree with Hath 12 months should be the youngest to breed. You can, in Brisbane, buy 12 month old birds for breeding. But remember to quarentine them for at least 30 days before introducing them to the rest of your flock.

I Have 3 Pairs Of Birds And I Only Managed To Get One Baby Last Year A
Hi ~elle~ and welcome to forum. Frequently Asked Questions This is a good spot to start but tell us how you have your breeding cages set up and especially the ages and gender of your birds.
-
Some Breed And Some Dont
I have heard of that Hath. They call it nest bound. I first thought they were refering to the egg bind. The way around it is to block the nest entrance in the morning for an hour to keep the hen in the cage with the male so they have a chance to breed. You do this for as many days as it take for them to mate.

Thanks guys but I take no credit for them. Karen is a great breeder. All her birds are beautiful. I couldn't decide which one so Karen picked them for me. Thanks Karen. Well Julie I still haven't met nerwen. Nerwen when are we going to meet? I would love to discuss where I am going wrong on the genetics. :glare:
