The thing was that I was trying so hard to be careful with the egg I was holding that I didn't carefully look at the eggs below. The egg had only yoke.....I hope that this means it was the 2nd last egg to be laid. I only marked the 1st egg. I hope it doesn't mean that the eggs are infertile. I am now worried about candling them. The 1st egg is due to hatch on 26th October, thats next wednesday. This morning there was the 4 eggs still in the nest so I hope every things going to be okay.

Dam it. I was cleaning the nest box this afternoon. I took all the eggs carefully out and them cleaned the box. (i've done this soooo many times) when I put the last egg in my thumb press against another egg and broke it. Tonight when I got home I found another egg out of the box on the bottom of the cage. It wasn't broken and I think it might have gotten some yoke from the boken egg on it and got stuck to the feathers of either the hen or one of the chicks currently fledging. I placed it back in the nest box. Hope it will be okay. So now I only have 4 eggs.

Lin now bea have. Stop having a go at the youngsters.
  5. That would be a yellow Face type I (parblue I) Nerwen ?
  6. Yes a type I or Type II (parblue) is an intermediate colour between blue and green. Remember that Green is made up of Blue and Yellow. A bird that is some where between blue and green can be called Partially Blue - parblue. The two types are type I Yellow Face and Type II Golden Face. As you can see from My Spangle she is green but you can also see the blue tinge in her feathers. This makes her a Parblue. And as Nerwen said "the yellow bleed as made them look like a normal green" Which give her the type II factor. Golden Faced. So she is a Parblue II (type II) or a Golden Faced Spangle.

I know what you mean. The air was blue here the other night when I caught George by surprise and he put his top beak into the side of my nose.....drew blood the little $%$#@#....umm sorry Still hurts. Gypsy certainly is determined to do the best by the little one. I think your wise to let her try to raise the chick. Especially with you supervising.

I in fact pick up the calalog every time I go to bunnings (which is maybe twice a a year ) I was interesting in the bottom one this time for $500. But no where to put it Then there is the fact that a 30 merter roll of mesh os only $100. What type of mesh Nerwen? Is it the chicken type or the hard stuff. I used They have a big range but not that cheap.

Gil I deleted it only after JJ2571 responded to your post. I under stood why you posted twice and left it until it was responded to Having a repeated post seemed pointless after the fact. It was post# 34. after eterri's. Which is now JJ2571. ________________________________________________________________________________ ___________ To Back up Gil

May I also add that in Australia the butcher birds will put the budgies through the bars of a cage if they get hold of them.
  19. YF type II Spangle ................................................................................ ...................................... Nerwen YF type II sounds strange to me. Parblue 1 or 2 is a yellow/golden face. Why say it twice. Wouldn't Spangle here just be a Type II Spangle?

Well I am convinced. Huey is either gay or female. Razzle came out of quarantine today so I put Greeny and Huey back in the main aviary with Razzle. Razzle was all over Greeny, chasing her from perch to perch. I think Huey was thinking *Oh thats what I should have been doing* Razzle is far to young to breed. I'll what till Ash is out of quarantine and is ready. I'll then put him with Greeny.

People not only in 3rd world countries but also our own do not know this. I bet most of us didn't know this. Does any body really investigate where the seed comes from that we feed our birds? Probibly not. I know I don't. I use a brended mix that is supplied at the local produce store. The owner is a knowledable breeder himself. I am at the stage of trusting him but wanting to start blending my own. Now to your statement eterri. I agree that there is a percentage of difficulty in getting the birds to ingest the water that we have put the vitamin and mineral suppliments. It is the same as giving you bird a diet of mixed seeds. They will or wont take it. They will pick out the seed that they like and leave the rest. They may take it now or probibly latter. If you place fresh greens in the aviary they may prefer to take them as a liquid in take and not the water at all. This is not a problem for them. I believe that by constantly providing the suppliments to the water over a period of time they will get use to it. I believe that the inital topic was for someone that's birds had gone too far toward malnutrition and that Gil was giving good sound advice. Yes I agree that the birds may not take to the water with the suppliments straight away. But hey the wild Budgie drinks where it can - muddy water hole where other animals have missed in it. If these birds are that bad, they will drink. If not the supply of fresh vegatables will surfice untill they do take it. Sorry about the information over load. I have been reading the works of James Bratt for a number of months. Quotes are direct information from The Master Breeder by James Bratt.

Yes as Lin said replace them with fake eggs. If you throw them away and the chicks are still in the box she might lay more.
