hi all I bought 5 show budgies today and have them all in quarantine for 45 days. I have treated 2 for scaly face. One of the females has somthing wrong with her foot. It is entirley closed up and she walks on stub of it... Her toes do not go around the perch. Is this because of lack of calcium? Is their somthing I can do to treat it? Thanks very much

Egg
The dark one can mean that the baby has grown so much that all you can see is a dark mass inside the egg. The white one is still developing.

HI I have a mutation question. Here is a picture. As you can see the baby on the left has different wing markings than the babies on the right. I am thinking that the one on the left could be a different mutation? The parents are: Yellow recessive pied male, Dark green cinnamon spangle. I am thinking that the one on the left is spangle and the others are normal? Is this possible? Any thoughts on mutations would be greatley appreciated. Thanks

Unfortunatly today the young early hatched baby passed away. He was very small and hatched 3 days before he was meant to. Maybe I should have hand fed him or somthing but I checked twice a day and he had been fed. Maybe he was trampled or somthing.. RIP

Never Say Never......
Wow they are all stunning. I love the green cinnamon spangle.

Handrearing
If you handle the baby in the nest a couple of times per day you will easily be able to tame him. By hand rearing do you mean just feeding the baby or taking him out of the mothers nest for good and keeping him in some kind of brooder?

Opinions Please
I would just keep them together and just remove the nest boxes. If their is nowhere to nest in the cage they shouldnt lay eggs. Good luck

I Dont Know What Else To Do!
Hi How long have they been in the breeding cage for? I leave mine in their 4-5 weeks and if their is no action they are removed to the aviary. I have read that moving the cage around will stress out the birds so I would not move it unless completely necessary. My cages are out the back under the pergola so it is not a quiet area either, I also covered them at night because of winter but now its getting hotter I do not. My first pair did nothing for 5 weeks so I removed them. They were in love and always preening each other. A few weeks later I decided to re add them to the breeder cage and now they have 4 babies. Wait for some other opinions and hopefully they will breed for you. Good luck

What Do You Do For Exercise?
I basically walk/ride everywhere I need to go. I go to the gym 4 days per week. I do alot of weights and cardio exercises. Ride to work/tafe everyday etc... I find that I stay fit as long as I dont pile up on junk food.

Thanks Maesie. They have been released into the avairy and so far are enjoying themselves. I am going to check the eldest 3 babies for splayed legs tomorow. I am confident they dont have splayed legs but its best to be sure. I will keep you updated.

okay Thanks very much Maesie I will do that. Bull and sunny preen eachother but that is about it. Maybe I just leave sunny in the avairy for the rest of her life (she is 3.5 years old) and next year I will try bull again.

Hi all The babies are all doing well and have all been fed. Sumo and grunt have been in a breeding cage since 18th of september and their are no signs of eggs. I have not seen them mate and their are no big droppings. Do you think I should release them into the avairy? They are both in condition. Any advice appreciated. Bull and sunny have also been in the breeding cage since 18th of september. Their is no sign of breeding between this pair. They are affectionate towards eachother but never do anything. The last time I tried to breed these two they did nothing. They just sit around all day. The hen is 3 1/5 years old so maybe they are just to old? Should I remove this pair aswell? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks for your time

Hi all I have taken a few photos. Some of the chicks look like they have splayed legs but maybe it is just because they are not developed yet? The eldest has yellow feathers and I dont know if its blue or black feathers aswell. I am going to say black because both the mother and father would have to be split blue to have blue offspring right? The cockatiel babys ^ THanks

Thank you all. I will try get the pictures after tafe tomorow. I cant take them tonight because if I annoy the mothers, they might not go back in the nest box tonight and the chicks will get very cold.

Hi The second cockatiel baby hatched today and they have both been fed. Neons fourth also hatched today. Cockatiel babys look very different to baby budgie. Baby cockatiels look more like miniature baby chickens. Thanks for the help

Thank you all. Does anyone know if I can foster a cockatiel baby (1 day old) into a budgies nest? The cockatiel baby hatched some time today and has not been fed yet. I hope the mother realises what to do and feeds him but I amjust getting prepared. Could I put the baby cockatiel in with baby (2 day old) budgies? Would the budgies feed him? He looks different to a baby budgie, he has alot of hair. Thanks
