Thanks very much maesie. That is good to hear. I was just worried that the chicks inside the eggs would die over night if they werent incubated.

Pearce's Budgerigar Blog
Hello all. Grunt has now laid 3 eggs but I am concerned. They are pinkish coloured eggs which leads me to beleive they are infertile. She never incubates them either, she goes in and lays the eggs then goes back out with sumo. Will she start incubating after the 4th egg or is she just not a good mother? Do pinkish eggs mean infertile? Any tips or advice would be great. Thanks

Junior Blue Card
I got my construction blue card from Bremer TAFE. Most TAFES or Uni's would have short courses to get blue cards. You can also get some of them online I beleive.

Update: I candled beauty's eggs today (cockatiel) and all I could see was a dark shade on one side of the egg and a small clear shade on the other side. I think that means that the baby is dead in its shell... I only candled one egg because I do not want to disturb them. The first egg was laid 16 days ago so if they are fertile.. they are due to hatch this weekend. Here is a picture I drew in paint. All other budgies going very well. I tried making seed bells today and I failed miserably. The honey would not hold the seed together and I made one big mess. Thanks

My Cage Progress
Yes but one problem with that is mice. Mice will burrow under and they do alot of harm to birds. Rat droppings give diseases to birds and rats bite the birds. Your better off raising it off the ground. If you wanted to have the avairy on the flat ground then you could dig a trench around it and put cement or bricks about 2 feet down. I am not sure if the mice would dig that far down or not. You could have shade cloth down their but Mice can dig through it.

My Cage Progress
HI I would attach wood to one or two of the sides of your avairy. It blocks the wind and keeps them warmer at night. You could either bolt the avairy to your fence or the back of your house or you could get a few milk crates and sit them under it. That way it will be raised off the ground. You can just put the perches through the bird wire and they wont move, get gum tree branches if you have any. For the bottom of the avairy you could use wire or wood and just put newspaper on it, then about every week you can change the newspaper. Make the door from one of the wooden sides, cut some wood out and attach hinges to the door and the wood.

Covering Breeding Cages With A Sheet?
Hi I have 8 breeding cages on seperate shelves outside my avairy, under a tin awning I built. They do not get wet but I would imagine it would get cold for them. Latley I have been putting sheets over the top of them at night to keep them warm. I'm curious as to what everyone else without breeding rooms does. Do you cover them with a sheet or somthing to keep them warm? I read that budgies can deal with cold or hot weather but if its cold one day then very hot the next, that is how you lose them. So if I cover the birds with a sheet at night they should be warm like they are during the day. Who here has breeding cages outside and not in breeding rooms? How do you do it? I am going to get a breeding room eventually but not at the moment. Thanks

Hi Updates: Grunt has laid 1 egg :hap: Beauty and beasts eggs are due to hatch in 2 days, they are all fertile. :hap: A new pair has been added to the breeding world.. Thunder: Thunder is a grey green normal, 2006 bred. Neon: Neon is a skyblue normal, 2007 bred. Can anyone notice the way thunder sits, is it splayed legs or can it be somthing else? Can you fix splayed legs in adult budgies? My friend had 2 clutches from thunder and she did everything right, so I am guessing this is a problem that she can deal with and it doesnt bother her.. Thanks.

Hi okay thanks very much. I will treat him immediatley. Good news... Grunt laid an egg this afternoon, Lets hope its fertile. P.S I am battling with colour expectations. Grunt is a normal grey and sumo is a normal cobalt. That means that sumo has 2 dark factors? and grunt has none? (sumo?) (Grunt?) Dominant (Double Factor) Normal = 100% dominant single factor From what I gather, grunt is dominant because she is grey and sumo is not because he is blue. Will I get all skyblue babies from this pair as it says single factor? I am soooo confused.. Edit: Is their a site that anyone knows of that says skyblue + olive green = ??? or Lutino + Albino = ??? Instead of all the dominant (sf) and all that? It is confusing me.

Hi I cant understand how to tell if a male or a female budgie is in breeding condition or not, I have read many articles about it. Could someone tell me if thunder ( my male 2 year old budgie) is in breading condition and if he is in good health. http://i37.tinypic.com/2ahjyg.jpg P.S - the white dots on his cere are not holes, I do not know what they are, could they be scaly mites?

Hi No it is like a tree. The stem grows quite thick and little branches come off the side with little leaves attached. It grows very high, I have some that are atleast 3 meters high and the width of a 20 cent piece. If you grab the small branches coming off the side of the tree and run your hand along it, the leaves will fall off they are that small and delicate. I remember at school people used to grab them off and throw them at eachother. I will take a picture in the morning. Thanks for your help

Hello all This may be a long shot but here goes. I have alot of these sort of trees growing in my yard and they are pests. My friend seems to think they are called pom pom trees but I'm not sure. They are definitly a pest and they spread everywhere. They grow pretty big and the branches are very straight. They have very small leaves connected to a series of branches attached to the main stem. I need to know the name as I want to use the stems as perches for birds but I need to know if they are toxic or not. They are not a bush, they are a tall growing tree with small leaves. Thanks for your time

Hi. I have been reading that oats are very good food for budgies. I have some quick cooking rolled oats, are they good for budgies to eat? Or is it a different kind of oat that I need to purchase? Thanks for your time.

Hello. Update: Still no eggs but it is looking good... Today I saw grunt and sumo mating which I have never seen before... Usually sumo just mates the perch.. Beauty (female cockatiel) has laid 5 eggs now and they are all fertile. 6 more days and they should hatch. It is quite amazing, the female incubates the eggs for a while then she comes out to eat and the male goes in and incubates... I never knew males did that its quite fascinating. **this may be a sensitive question to some people here so feel free to ignore anything under this** This may sound like a stupid question but I have googled it and cannot find any answers.. How long does a budgies "mating act" take to fertile the eggs? I cannot think of any other way to explain it.. Today I saw sumo mating the perch yet again.. then when he moved I saw a white liquid on the perch ( I am assuming its sperm?) then he goes straight and mates with grunt... I am worried that he used all his "ammo" on the perch and had none left for grunt. I probably sound stupid but I need to find the answer to this. Thanks for your time.

Tropical Fish
HI very nice tank. I have 2 angel fish and 10 neons in a tank a little bigger than yours. If you get angel fish make sure you ask a professional what fish can go in with them. I know that barbs and tetras tend to pick and nip at the angel fishes fins and that will eventually kill the angel fish. My angel fish did lay eggs and the eggs did hatch at one stage but I did not know you had to seperate the babies, the adults then ate the babies.. Remember that if you are on tank water you need to let the water settle for a few days then add the fish otherwise the chlorine will kill them, you can buy a chemical that kills chlorine but I forget the name.. Hope I have helped. Good luck.

Hi. I covered the nest holes with paper at 3 pm and when I got home at 5 pm the paper had been ripped apart. Is this a good sign or bad... I dont know if they just ate it out of boredem or hunger or wanting to lay eggs.. Thanks

Growing Bird Seed
I have 10 pots of the seed growing so I can feed 1 lot to them today and let the rest grow bigger. When it gets a head on it, do you let the seed go brown before you feed it to them or can they eat it all green? Thanks very much
