  1. Hello all. I have another question. I have read budgies get iodine from soil/dirt. Is their any vegetables that contain iodine? I have been to 4 pet shops and none of them sell iodine blocks, I have 3 left but the guy I bought them from does not have any left. Where do you all get your iodine blocks from? THanks very much
  2. The other bird was female. The bottom of the avairy is cement with no holes. 2 foot from the ground up is tin and again their is no holes. On top of the avairy is tin and their is no holes their either. Then around the outside of the aviary I cemented 2 feet down around the edges of it so mice couldnt bury under, even if they did bury under they still couldnt come up because its cemented floors. No mice can get in I have made sure of it. Maybe this budgie was just to old and it was her time to pass on.. Thanks for the help.
  3. No it had nothing on its bottom. It was puffed up. Maybe it was just a budgie that pecked it after it died. Cold weather kills budgies doesnt it. It didnt lose any blood, a little blood was just covering the cere and the head as though somthing had pecked it. Thanks
  4. Good news, Juggernaut has not had any bleeding all night and she looks alot better physically. I have yet another question. I found one of my budgies dead this morning in the bottom of the avairy and I am wondering if it is related to juggernauts problem. I definitly do NOT have rats. Some of the feathers on her head were ripped off and her cere was red (covered in blood). If a budgie dies from the very cold weather or shock, It wouldn't bleed like this would it? Maybe their is a disease that is causing this. I will take the body to the vet to see if he knows whats causing it. Thanks.
  5. Her cage is inside and I usually have the heater on. THanks very very much for all the help.
  6. I went to the local vet and he checked her out. He said she has been bitten by somthing. He stopped the bleeding and put cream on the affected areas. Hopefully she will be okay, I have her in a cage by herself. I have a warm light on her aswell, should I turn the light off at night or leave it on all night for the warmth. Thanks very much for the help
  7. I am going to have to find a vet that can fit me in now. Their is blood all over the cage again! I dont know how much blood she will have left she has lost an awful lot. She keeps picking at her feet so maybe she is causing all this blood loss.
  8. okay Thanks very very much.
  9. I have put flour over her wound. Do I was the flour off or will it come off itself. I can get in to the vet at 11 am tomorow. Thanks very much for all the help
  10. No rats/mice can get in my avairy but maybe it was one of my cockatiels/budgies. I dont have nesting boxes in the avairy anymore so I dont see what they would be fighting over. I will go buy some betadine now. THanks for the help
  11. He is missing feathers above his right leg. He is missing a toe nail on his right foot. Could that be what all the blood is coming from? He has blood on his face also, like he has ripped a feather or his toenail out himself and got blood all over him. Here are some pictures, they are bad quality.
  12. Should I bathe him in water first to get rid of the blood? He is not bleeding anymore their is just blood everywhere.
  13. Hi Today I went out to the avairy (their are currently 25 budgies,2 cockatiels and 5 quails in their) And I found blood all over the perch and the ground. I looked at one of my australian budgies named juggernaut, above his left leg their is blood everywhere and a few feathers are missing. I moved him into a smaller cage and I have called 2 vets. Both vets cannot see him until tomorow afternoon. Is their anything I can do until tomorow? Bathe it in water or buy some cream for him? I have not touched anything yet as Water could hurt the area. I will try get pictures for you. P.S. He can fly and eat normally and it does not look like he is in pain, im just worried because he has lost alot of blood for a budgie.. I am going to ring a few vets now that are outside of my area and see if they can fit him in today. Until then, their must be somthing I can do. Thanks

Very nice budgies. Good luck mate.
  15. Another update: Grunt and sumo have now been in the breeding cage 10 days. They have bonded very well and are always preening eachother etc.. Sumo (male) goes in the nesting box once in a while but I have never seen grunt in their. Grunt and sumo both sit on the bottom of the cage looking out and trying to break out. They have done this since the first day I put them in their and they are still trying to escape. Sumo is the wierdest budgie I have ever had, he sits their for hours mating the perch in the corner and rubs his head along it all day. Sunny and bull are bonding and sunny uses the nest box alot. Lemon and lime use the nesting box all the time but have had no eggs as of yet. Blooper has had 5 eggs now and I can see veins so I'm hoping they are fertile.
  16. Another update: Blooper now has 3 eggs and she and muggs are both in the nesting box incubating. I am taking sumo back to the vet as he still has yellow rings around his eyes and I have noticed he is doing somthing wierd. He gets himself into the corner of the cage and bobs up and down, like he is mating the perch or somthing. I have found some articles on "tail bobbing in birds" and I am reading them now to see if that is what he is doing. He could just be humping the perch or it could be somthing else. I will let you know with the progress.
  17. A budgie with a skyblue body colour and a bright yellow face. I think they are called yellow face blue spangles or somthing. I really want one.
  18. I went to the vet and he did not know what was wrong. I was told just to bathe the eye in cold tea and watch for signs of it getting worse. I feed the birds corn 4 times a week and I was thinking that could be the reason why. I dont know how corn would give them yellow rings around their eyes though. Blooper has also laid another egg today.
  19. Hello all Sumo (male) has a yellow ring around each of his eyes (not the iris) and I have never seen it before on him. Does he have an eye infection? He has never had this before, if you look on the front page of this thread, he has no yellow ring. Is this normal or is it somthing serious. I am taking him to the vet this afternoon to get checked out. He is normal in every other way, flying around, chirping with his friends, preening the female in his cage. Does anyone know what is wrong or what causes this.. http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/9585/p1010032rl5.jpg - That is a picture although it is quite blurry, he never sits still. Thanks very much
  20. Thanks all. Is it possible to get yellow face blue budgies from sunny and bull? If not, what will the colours of the chicks be? Also, What wing type will the chicks have? Edit: I just went out to the avairy and I checked the nesting boxes and blooper has laid an egg! I was not expecting it to happen so soon, the nesting box has only been in the cage 7 days. I hope it is fertile. Thanks
  21. Thanks all. Sorry about the photo's, as soon as I saw they were to big I started uploading them again and editing it.
  22. Hello all I have added another pair of budgies to a breeding cage. Sunny (hen) http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/9535/p1010035ec7.jpg http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/25/p1010028ae7.jpg Bull http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/9596/p1010020if5.jpg http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/6281/p1010030xw8.jpg I think blue is a skybue normal budgie. I think sunny could be a yellow face grey cinnamon or dilute maybe... Her yellow is mixed through all the grey on her body and she has brownish wings. Can anyone confirm what type she is? He is 2 years old and she is 3. THanks all
  23. Very very nice birds. Good luck.
  24. kaz: I have ordered the rings from the link you gave me. Thanks very much neat: I opened your link and the person selling them on their is the same guy i'm buying them from on ebay. His name is lentradirect and he owns a pet supply store I think. Thanks. THanks very much for the replies. Update: I added the nesting box in sumo and grunt's breeding cage. Thanks all
  25. Thanks very much Maisie, did you get yours from a budgie club or somewhere else?
