Budgie Seed
My seed dishes are around a foot off the ground. I read somewhere that its good to have seed/water on the ground because it encourages birds to fly down and get excersise. I have a few very fat birds. Keep in mind my avairy is rat proof.

Rats- Its My Turn For Them Now!
Hi Alot of my birds died from mice/rats. They eat the seed and their droppings are toxic to budgies. I put rat traps around the out side of the avairy and cemented inside, That stopped the rats all together.

Is This Budgie A Male Or Female...
Hello I did not want to bother you all by making another post as It can be considered spam. I do ask alot of questions. I'm just wondering how you all learnt the budgie mutations. I've been reading alot of topics on this forum and other sites. So Far I've figured out the colours (Grey, Green, Mauve, Cobalt.. Etc etc) But which colours are dominant over which. Like if a blue budgie breeds with a green budgie, dont all the babies become green as green is the dominant colour? (I'm not sure). How do you all find this info on what colours are dominant over what. I understand most of the types aswell (spangle, Cinamon, Clearwing) I want to learn all this so I dont have to make posts every time I want to know the mutation of my budgies. And I also read that baby males will always be different colours than baby females, Like if a blue and a green bred together all males would be green and all females would be blue... Is this right? Also, If two of the exact same type of budgies bred together (2 light green opalines) Would the babies all be the exact same mutation as the parents? Seen as their is no other colours on the parents themselves? I am going to keep reading and hopefully I will understand all this some day... THanks very much for all the help

Breeding Cages
Hello I took 2 pairs of budgies out of the avairy today and put them in the breeder cages. They al have white iris rings so they are atleast 1 year old, I've had them over a year actually. They are not related. I'm going to post some pictures and hopefully you will all be able to tell me what coloured chicks they will produce. Also if you could tell me what type the adults are it would be great. Pair 1: http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/6792/1stpairqg0.jpg http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/1811/firstpairuz6.jpg Pair 2: Males wings: http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/7823/2n...leswingsgm9.jpg http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/9061/femaleandmalepv4.jpg If you need more pictures please let me know. Breeding Cages
Oh okay thanks alot. I didnt think you could tame budgies when they get older.

Breeding Cages
THanks for all the replies. I have divided the cage into 2 cages so now I have 8 breeder boxes, I bought 3 today. That is all I will need for a while. I have had alot of tame budgies and when ever I put them in the avairy they became less tame everyday. Now some of the tame budgies that I had wont even come near me anymore. Does anyone know if you tame a budgie from baby stages and release him/her to the colony, Wil they stay tame? Or will they just become like all the other birds and fly around like crazy when ever I enter the avairy. THanks for your help EDit: I have read that a cage for one budgie should be no smaller than 18 by 18 by 18 (im assuming its inches) Does anyone know what the minimum size for a breeder cage for 2 budgies would be? Thanks again all

Breeding Cages
Hello I have yet another set of questions to ask everyone. Feel free to move/delete this post if needed. AS most of you know I'm just starting to breed my budgies in breeder cages instead of in the colony. I've taken all of the nest boxes out of the avairy. Im going to make my current avairy into a flight cage for adult budgies. I'm also in the process of building a smaller avairy 3 m wide, 5 m long and 2 m high. This avairy will be used for baby budgies until they get to about 6 months and are ready to be moved into the bigger avairy with the adults. I'm also building another avairy which will have my breeder cages in. It will take time but It should be fun. My questions are 1. At the moment I only have 2 breeder cages. One is about 1 meter long, 60 centimeters high and 60 centimers wide. And the other is about 2 meter high, 1 meter wide and 1 meter long. Which breeder cage would be the best? If they are to big would budgies be to busy flying around to breed? If they are to small they wont be able to do much and probably wouldnt breed either. So basically my question is, Which breeding cage would you choose out of the 2 I said? Thats all I can think of at the moment. Sorry for making too many topics, feel free to delete this post if needed.

Is This Budgie A Male Or Female...
I have bred budgies before but it was colony style only. I have never selected a pair and put them in a seperate cage and bred that way before. The reason i'm asking so many questions is because I dont want anything to go wrong, Even if it does I will know what to do. I'm sorry for asking so many questions, everyone here must think im stupid. Before I even got budgies a few years ago I borrowed out alot of books and read them all so I was prepared. I am still learning alot but I know alot more about budgies now than I did 3 years ago.

Is This Budgie A Male Or Female...
Hello all. I have a few more questions to ask, feel free to answer them. My camera is not working at the moment so i'm going to give a description of one of my budgies and I need to confirm that he is definitly male. He is pure white, he does not have red eyes. He has a big head and his cere is bright pink. He is always on top and in the nesting box with one of my females ( she has layed 4 eggs). Is he definitly a male? Some of my other male birds have pink ceres aswell.. He is not albino. What type could he be? Can you tell? If you cant answer this question I will re post it again in a few days with pictures. I have 1 pair of budgies in the breeder cage they've been in their for 4 weeks. 4 days ago the hen layed an egg in the nest box and the next day it was gone. Now she layed another egg today, this time the egg has blood all over it. Does that mean she isnt getting enough nutrients to lay? Is she stressed? THanks very much for your time

What gender are my Cockatiels?
Hello all. Does anyone here breed/know how to tell the gender of cockatiels? I've been wanting to find out the gender of my 2 cockatiels for ages so Im going to post pictures to see if anyone can help me. Heres some pictures Heres some pictures http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/5601/p1010023xd9.jpg http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/9320/p1010024bx2.jpg http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/3693/p1010026pn8.jpg http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/9008/p1010027zj6.jpg Does anyone know the gender of these 2? Corn
THanks very much for all the replies and help. I always take the corn out after 8 hours to prevent disease, besides its already been eaten by then. Thanks again
-
Corn
okay I will get rid of the shell grit. THanks very much everyone.
-
Corn
The breeder I get my budgies from feeds all his budgies shell grit and He gave me a bag of it. Is their somthing wrong with shell grit?..
-
Corn
I feed my budgies corn on the cob 3 times a week, Calcivet in their water and occasionally apple cidar vinegar, shell grit, budgie seed ( I buy the seed off an experienced show breeder, he mixes all different seeds together and makes it all himself) Cuttlebone and a calcium bell/block. I just wanted to see if corn 3 times a week is bad for breeding budgies. The budgies go crazy for it, they will eat a whole cob of corn in 1 day. Can to much be bad for breeding budgies? They wont eat anything else, I've tried carrot tops, carrots, eggs, parsley, and lots more. They will eat silverbeet but It stops them from getting enough calcium or somthing. Is that to much corn to be giving them? Thanks for all your help everyone.

Is This Budgie A Male Or Female...
okay thanks. I was just making sure just incase They were both males or somthing and I put them together for 3 weeks... From what I've read, its possible to tell a Budgies age by the ring around its eye, No ring means under 4 months, greyish ring means 4 months to 8 months and white ring means 8 months and older. The pair that I bought before the holidays (about 3 weeks ago) are going well. I read that after 3 weeks in a breeder cage and they arent doing anything you should take them out and put them back in the avairy. Im not going to do that as they are just become fond of eachother and the female sits in the nesting box all day. She layed one egg and I was so happy but the next day I came out and it was gone. I dont really know what could have happened. If she had eaten/threw the egg out their would be eggshells and the sort everywhere. Thanks for your time.

Is This Budgie A Male Or Female...
They are in the quarentine cage But Usually if I get a pair from the one place and i'm told they are in breeding condition I put a nesting box in the cage. They arent in my breeding cages though... She told me they were 1 1/2 years and older... Sorry... I just have one more pair of budgies I need some information on and then I will not bother you all again. I've had these 2 budgies for over a year and I bred them myself. Do they look in condition to you? Are they old enough? http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/2536/p1010008id1.jpg http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/4493/p1010012xf0.jpg http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/9286/p1010013ie6.jpg http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/6919/p1010020fp2.jpg Also, what type of budgies are they if you can tell. Thanks.

Is This Budgie A Male Or Female...
Hello all Sorry for making another post. I bought a budgie from a local breeder and he says the budgie is male but i'm not sure So im posting here. He/she looks to be female but I'm not sure as some males always have pink ceres. Heres some photos (yes im no good at taking pictures, the budgies always fly away when I get close enough to get a good photo) http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/597/p1010041wp3.jpg http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/7960/p1010043am0.jpg http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/621/p1010048yq2.jpg The breeder said he is old enough to breed, Is he? Is This Scaley Face?
Thanks for the replys. Can I get treatment from pet shops? Or do I have to go to the vet to get it treated? If its a disease that would mean he could spread it to other birds. Is psittacosis curable? Thanks

Is This Scaley Face?

Apple Cidar Vinegar
Thanks very much everyone for your help. Another question reguarding vegetables. Would I be able to feed my budgies the birds eye frozen vegetables with the peas, corn and carrot? If so would the budgies be better off eating them raw? or Steamed/cooked? Thanks

Apple Cidar Vinegar
Hi all I went to a pet shop last week and I remember one of them say that apple cidar vinegar is good for budgies. He said mix it in their water oince a week and it basically keeps them healthy. The problem is, I forgot how much needs to be added into a 300 mil water dish. Does anyone know how much I should add to a 300 mil water dish? Is it good to use fr breeding birds in cagesd aswell? On a different note, i heard that silverbeet is bad for budgies in breeder cages, is this true? I have alot of it and I would prefer that it doesnt go to waste. Thanks for your time
