  1. Are you talking about sphynx or rex Elly? Sphynx are rare and yes they are expensive and do require lots of maintenance but Rex breeds are relatively common and do come up in rescue, often through breeders who have taken them back after their elderly owner has died and such. I have even seen them in pet shops
  2. Also if the cost is a problem talk to the breeders associations and check out the cat forums as often there are rescue groups which just cater to specific breeds, often the cats are lovely
  3. Have you checked this morning whether it has food in it's crop?
  4. There are cats that are much less problematic for allergy sufferers, they are the Cornish Rex and the Devon Rex. Some people are allergic to the dander and some to the fur so it just depends what causes your allergy. If you really want a kitten why don't you visit a rex breeder and see whether you end up with a reaction, much better than taking on a cat which may cause you problems and have to be rehomed
  5. Ooooh, you can post her to me
  6. It's possible that the theory was thought up by someone who met cats of different BREEDS who also happened t be different colours. There is certainly a difference between breeds as far as allergies go, however between different coloured moggies I would find it doubtful
  7. Sorry Carolyn I can't help with a foster, only eggs at the moment
  8. It can be a while before she gives the first feed and if you are constantly checking it might upset her and stop her from doing so.
  9. It isn't, I'll see if I have any info on it's safety Lavatera is part of the family Malvacaea which also includes hibiscus (hence the similiarity). It is common as a garden plant and chances are it is safe but I can't guarantee it. Might be best to try and do a bit more research first and just trial it in one cage before giving it to all of them.
  10. If you do a search under the genus Lavatera or Malva (there are only a small number of plants in these) you will find the hibiscus looking one (third from the bottom. I'm not sure of it's common name and the species eludes me right now) okay, I stopped being lazy and checked my books, just going by the photo I'd say it's Lavatera arborea commonly called the Tree Mallow
  11. Apparently happy to be around people and talks a bit but won't climb on you, which is fine with me as he would be an aviary bird
  12. I can do that for you Someone offered me a male king for $100 today semi tame, seriously thinking about popping him in the aviary and finding him a hen
  13. I've had two kids Neat, I understand completely :D
  14. Thanks Carolyn, they have been in Family Day Care before and I did like it but I spoke to the co-ordinator up here and she said at the moment the wait can be over five months because so many people are trying to get out of formal childcare so it doesn't really help me much I had thought of that too Libby, we are going to see how we go for the time being with AV helping on a Saturday and then decide
  15. Handreared as opposed to handled parent raised ones are pretty rare anyway. You can pretty much safely assume that unless told otherwise they will be parent raised. Incidentally I agree with your choice
  16. You could always feign interest in their puppy to get a sneak peak in their backyard. He's soo cute, I'm moving to a place that lets me get one, what sort is he and where did you get him, etc.
  17. Well this is her first breeding so I'll just watch at this stage. Thanks
  18. Unfortunately there is alot of practice involved in catching birds in an aviary. I use a large net (like a large butterfly net), I wait until they are settled in a spot where there is only a limitted way they can go to get away and then I put one hand up to encourage them to fly off, then as they fly off I flick the net up and in they go... It is best if you can get a padded net, that way if they accidentally hit the frame they are less likely to inure themselves. You can limit flying space by puttin branches up high in one corner
  19. He still in a convertible type. Legally he can sit in a booster but I don't know that it's particularly safe. He turns two in three weeks, which reminds me that we won't do it on the 18th as we have a party at my mums house
  20. It's cool, I can still use an opaline if I have to I just have to becareful which chicks from the pairing I keep for future breeding (since cocks will be split for it)
  21. It's up to you whether you want to but I have a spare car seat which you can just hold onto if that is easier, otherwise we can just pop it in the car and take it out again when he comes home
  22. CAn someone remind me what the possibilities are for what this might mean? I have a hen who laid her first egg yesterday and it has quite alot of blood streaked over it. She's healthy, well fed, supplemented, etc
  23. Oh my gosh AV you are one amazing person! Let me know how much the activities are going to cost so I can give you some money, I'll send along some snacks (sultanas, etc) for him so that you have some stuff to take along
  24. okay, well it won't be for a little while as he is doing well with his current hen now, might let them go for the moment and keep her in mind for later down the track if something else doesn't come up (I don't really want the opaline so she isn't ideal)
