  1. I think your sitting on a grey area here Shannon. You might have got away with simply saying hey does anyone know who to contact, but when you start asking about whether this way or that way is better it falls into the 'support' category
  2. antenna (don't ask me, ask my DH )
  3. Your best bet would be to contact your local Cavy club as they will be able to give you the details of local breeders.
  4. okay, is it just me or is this a really cr*ppy movie? :what: I've never seen it before and thought it might be good for a laugh but it's so dumb I'm struggling to even find it funny
  5. Depending on how reliable I think Suzie's (or Steve's :what: ) pelvis is I'll decide then whether I think a confirmation is necesary
  6. From what I felt today I am quite confident the new one is a boy, I'll get Suzie out tomorrow and feel hers to confirm but I'm hoping it will all be well and they will definately be a pair. Hopefully they like each other!
  7. The pelvic bone doesn't tell a whole lot in a baby bird as they need to develop properly. His future mate, Suzie, is the big white bird in my sig. He is a slightly smaller corella so hopefully he won't get a complex fro being the smaller man
  8. Not hugely reliable but it's a reasonable indicator in a pinch especially if they are an older bird that has most likely bred before. HIs pelvic bones are EXTREMELY close (I had a feel too and he didn't care when I did it either!), so it would be pretty unlikely it would be a hen even if he hadn't bred. I had planned to get them both DNA sexed to be sure but it gives me something to go on for the moment.
  9. Well my corella has been in need of a mate for a while now but unfortunately Little Corellas are a little hard to come by especially tame ones. Most of the ones around are wild caught and often carrying beak and feather so I wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole. However a nice old gentleman I know is selling one he has which is a few years old and I swear it is the tamest bird I have ever seen in my life!! Those of you with birds that can't be sexed visually are probably aware of the method of checking the pelvic bones to determine sex. Well I asked him if he knew what it was and he said hang on a sec and just put his hand under the bird and felt (HIS) pelvic bone right there on the perch! The little guy didn't even look at him sideways!!! Most birds I know would have to be held down in order to do that but he is just SOOO trusting. Needless to say I am thrilled with him. I can't move him to my place for a few weeks until I have a suitable aviary set up for him to stay in until he is ready to meet his new mate, but we are going to move him into a cage on his own and start his quarantine in the mean time.
  10. I don't think fertility is the issue, I think he's just not interested in doin' the deed :happy-dancing:
  11. Got some iodine and I'll give it a go. Personally I think he needs viagra though :happy-dancing: If the iodine doesn't work I might speak to a few in the know and see about AI for him
  12. The grey down feathers Also I would say it has too much barring on it's head to be opaline (even at this age)
  13. Thanks, I'll have a look tomorrow when I go to get the dog food from the butchers
  14. Thanks, I've never used a straight iodine supplement, where do you get it from?
  15. The thing is Ozzie has never really shown any interest in ANY hen or for that matter any other budgie! Even in the aviary he just chooses a perch and sits their looking disinterested That's why I had a feeling he'd cause me issues. The hen has laid four eggs and has another one in the works so she's obviously ready to go
  16. I did trim them a few months ago but I must admit I didn't check incase they had grown back before I put these two togther so they will get a retrim tomorrow
  17. I love the pairing but I always had a feeling this guy might not perform, I have never seen him show any more than a vague interest in the hen and I've certainly never seen him flirting with her. This is the pair: I will give them their bikini wax tomorrow and then wait a few more weeks and see if we get any worthwhile egss and then consider swapping her.
  18. I'm not keen to let my spangle hen that is in with my DF spangle go for too long laying clear eggs if Ozzie isn't gonna get his act into gear as I really want some chicks from her this season. So if a pair doesn't seem to be laying any decent eggs how long do you let them try until you give up and swap the cock out? I'm pretty sure that if either of them are the problem it would be him in this case.
  19. For®est
  20. Well candled eggs today and I'm sorry AV but so far the news ain't good for Ozzie, all clear at this stage In the other boxes the older of the eggs are showing veins in the crested nest, pair 3 and the pied nest. The inos haven't laid yet but the hen is only just now settling in the nest box so hopefully we'll have eggs in a few days. The hen that lost her cock(the fallow) laid a single egg after she lost her man but hasn't laid since, she was in the box tonight though so I'll see tomorrow. Her first egg has been fostered in with pair 3 at this stage and I shall hope to see veins in a few days :laughter: Ozzie and his hen are getting a bit more of a bikini wax tomorrow after she lays her next egg
  21. Possible but it's hard to tell with that one
  22. Try JJ aviaries online for cage fronts I'm pretty sure they stock them and he'll post them to you. I have Daz's plans fro his last breeding cabiets in my email if you want them PM me
