  1. When I say suspended I mean on a timber frame as opposed to hanging somehow. I have also considered cementing a large dead branch into the floor of the aviary like a tree and bolting boxes to that in interesting positions.
  2. Gotcha, well then they probably are almost all golden face, if anything I would say that photo is duller than true colour as it was just taken on my phone camera. My babies are the pale lemon yellow of yellow face and get mch brighter after their first moult. They are basically all type two golden as they have alot of yellow in their wings and often tail too. Most have dappled greening in the chest
  3. Just what I needed! ThanksJust had a read, confirmed a few things I had already considered and gave me a few ideas I hadn't thought of. I particularly like the idea of putting little screens up and longer perches, I had been trying to work out how to solve this problem. I am going to suspend a bank of them in the middle of the aviary so they will be facing away from each other. Luckily we've never had any issues with this bunch of birds, they've lived together for a long time and they don't harrass each other.
  4. There are definately some which are brighter yellow than others, I will try and take a few closer photos tomorrow and put them on the colours page. The golden face doesn't get the yellow through the body though does it? Almost all of them have some greening of their body feathers, there are only a couple that don't
  5. Just wondering what preferences your budgies show for the position and type of nest boxes in the aviary? I have them scattered in all sorts of places, some up high, some lower down hanging on the wire. I'm still trying to work out what my birds prefer and moving boxes that don't get used much into positions they like better. I'm also going to try a few different options with boxes and natural hollow branches, etc. to see if they have preferences there. Maybe I just like to spoil them too much :feedbirds:
  6. They don't seem to have picked a box yet so I'll keep an eye on them over the next few days.
  7. I hadn't noticed that these two were overly friendly with each other until today. At the moment just by annoying coincidence there are vastly more males in my aviary than females, so this little guy has sought out one of the few females to smooch with. They are constantly grooming each other around the face and giving each other smoochy beak kisses. Given I only put the budgie boxes back in on Sunday after taking them out to give them a clean I'm guessing they've seen the boxes and got excited! Might be more babies on the way
  8. If anyone can enlighten me to the colour variations at all I wouldn't be upset Other than that they are yellow face blues I am pretty hopeless with my colours, I think I've worked out greywing at this stage but that's about it!

As my budgies live in a large group they kind of choose their own mates if they feel inclined to breed so I'm not always 100%positive who the pairs are. I have noticed that two of my blue greywings spend a lot of time grooming each other, moreso than the rest of the flock. Is there a good chance that these two have bonded and will tend to breed together or are budgies a little less monogamous than that?
  10. Made to order would be okay, saves me having them engraved. Do you have anymore info about them? Even a name and I'll 'google' them Thanks Erin
  11. Hey guys I am having trouble locating metal leg bands which are blank so that I can engrave them myself, I am looking for budgie sizes but also larger ones for my bigger parrots. I want to engrave my phone number on them incase of lost birds. Unfortunately it seems most of them have already got codes printed on them.
  12. I really adore the yellow faces, especially the grey and clear wings which is probably why Blondie is my favorite. My little boys love them too becase it makes such a nice colourful flock with the blues and yellows all mixed together.I'd actually like to add some other colors to the flock too, maybe replace a few of my yellowfaces with greens, greys, etc. just for a bit of 'diversity' :wine

Hey guys, I've been nagged by various members to post some photos of my birds so here they are! A couple of photos with all the birds together and a photo of my favorite yellow face Blondie. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s124/bot3feb/DSC00414.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s124/bot3feb/DSC00411.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s124/bot3feb/DSC00407.jpg I hope that worked correctly! Just so everyone knows they arent nearly as cramped as they look in these photos, but being aviary birds the second I got in the aviary to take photos they all ran and hid on me in the tightest corner they could find!!
  14. My lorikeet used to do this when she was young, chewed her flights and her long tail feathers, she didn't stop until we got a friend to keep her company. She is on her own again now since her friend passed away but she is now happy with us and the other non-lorikeet birds for company. If you have personally seen him chewing his feathers and you have established that it is not a medical condition a friend would be a great idea but do make sure there is not something medical going on first.
  15. There is nothing more adorable than a small child that loves their pets I have a three year old and an 18month old and everyone that visits is amazed at how well they care for their pets and how gentle they are. I was holding our newest baby budgies in my hands this afternoon while my youngest patted them gently, he has never grabbed the fur/feather of any of our animals. It just shows that anyone who says 'kids will be kids' when their offspring are tormenting someones pets doesn't understand what their kids are missing out on.

I am in Melborne with a lorikeet called Fruit Tingle, two indian ringnecks, three cockatiels and of course budgies, 25 in fact! I have recently started getting babies from my budgies and I am taming many of them. As well as our birds we have a dog, a cat, a rabbit, a rat, three blue tongues and two kids! I would love to hear anyones suggestions for their best nest box designs as I am experimenting at the moment with different box types and hollow logs to see what type and configuration suits them best.
