  1. He will perk up Marina, don't worry too much yet. It probably seems very quiet without his (budgie) family around him, try putting a radio on for him.

If you are getting a new friend for her you will need to seperate them from each other for a 1 month quarantine to make sure they aren't carrying anything to make each other sick. Where in Aus are you located?
  3. For your interest Dave is is an Eastern Blue Tongue, the most common species along the eastern coast. If it makes you feel better they can go for weeks without food and water so he would have been fine :ohmygod:
  4. It was a distinct possibility AV! As I stood up to go and join the line up for the stage the pin came undone and I had a panicked few moments standing at the side of the hall in the line trying to do it back up again :ohmygod:
  5. Are you still in need of a home for one AV? I had someone ask me today whether I had any available (via this site)
  6. Personally I charge the same for all my colours, $20 for tame babies and $10 for aviary birds anything older than it's first moult (basically anything that could be classed as an adult) The only ones I charge more for are crested birds.
  7. Well after eight years, 2 unis (4 campuses by 'on campus' and distance ed), 2 states and 4 towns and 2 kids I finally got to walk on stage last night in my funny square hat and get my bit of paper that says I've graduated from uni. It feels good to know I've achieved it finally after all this time. To any one else out there considering it I say go for it! If your stubborn enough and you persevere you'll get there eventually
  8. Hey Brez are they show birds? CAnyou take some pics while you are there? If they are good I might keep it in mind for next time I'm up that way.
  9. When I was a kid my mum had a snazzy little multi layer thing specifically for growing sprouts. You could have three separate layers at different stages of growth, it look kind of like a small clear plastic dehydrater
  10. The one without any yellow on the tips is probably a double factor yellow face ( looks white), keep it in mind if you keep that one for future breeding as it may pass YF on to it's chicks. Yes the white fluff signifies opaline
  11. I have this hen, she is a pet type and unforunately the flash has washed out her colour but you get the idea You should be looking for nice dark spangles like she has and throat spot, preferably bullseye type ones.
  12. And that fluffy chick in the first picture is going to be an opaline too
  13. okay, I've done a plan change and I'm going to do an aviary shuffle and put them in patio aviary for thir quarantine Hopefully they won't make too much noise and then in a month I'll move them into the garage if they are being too noisy (don't want to upset the neighbours)
  14. I do a variation on that with my quarantine birds. I feed them first thing in the morning before anything else while I'm still in my pjs (barefeet). Walk in through the laundry and deposit pjs into the wash with napisan and then jump straight into the shower. That way I can spend all day enjoying my other birds and know the quarantine ones are happy and healthy and have had their morning food. Works for me Atleast I know they are coming from a reliable source as they are actually from AVs cousin who lives over the back from her So with some reasonable quarantine care I shouldn't have any trouble at all
  15. okay so maybe I would be better off sectioning the aviaries off from each other by putting plastic between them. The larger aviary is in my garage, the smaller one(where the new birds will go) is situated inside the garage but the only open side is outside the large rear door of the garage. If I hang plastic between the side of the front of the smaller aviary and the edge of the garage door the budgie aviary will be almost completely sealed off. Sound okay??
  16. Just had a covert chat to my dad and he thinks she would like some more family pics. I suggested a drawing of Alex and Max and he though she would love it so I'm going to try that first of all Thank all
  17. Hi guys, I am asking this in here mainly because I know that some members here have non budgie pets and I feel it is important to understand that the issue of quarantine is still an important one. I have some new birds arriving on Sunday. They aren't budgies but as the issue of where to put them still affects my budgies I hope you all don't mind me asking here. I know the minimum distance for quarantine is 5metres, but unfortunately the only aviary I have to put them in is only about 2-3 metres from my budgie aviary but facing the opposite direction(slightly different air space maybe??). So what I am wondering is if there is anything I can do to enable me to put them in this aviary and reduce the risks. For example would covering the front with fine mesh(like organza fabric or similiar) so that feather dust, etc can't get through be suitable? My only other option is to put them in a cage which is really too small and I don't really want to have to do that to them. (AV if you are reading I'm referring to the smaller one in the garage which currently has my breeding cages in it).
  18. On the still life page of thatsite there were some drawings of plants and leaves and they do really have a great pattern to them I think
  19. Where did you stay Jenene? We stayed at Yamba a couple of years ago which is about that far from Sydney
  20. Thanks BL, I had a bit of a look through. So far my thoughts are either a detail drawing of a single leaf or leaves or a gum blossom branch(something with a bold sort of pattern in it) or a portrait of my kids (her only grandkids). She already had lots of photos of the boys though so thinking maybe not.
  21. Are the store bought cages bigger? Maybe you could send one of your hens on a holiday to the breeding cage and use the larger cage for this sort of stuff. If it is the cock causing the drama and the one he is after is the other cock then I would take the other cock out and just let him pick between the hens. I have hens that live together and never had a problem so it really is temperament of each one and I think in this case it's the cocks you need to worry about.
  22. My mum is having her 50th next weekend and as I was at a bit of a loss as to what to get her I asked her what she wanted. She said she wanted some nice frames/pictures to hang on her walls. They have just redone their house, polished the floors, painted the walls, etc and generally modernised the place (originally there was lots of mission brown ). So she wants something fairly modern. She took down the older style Australian landscape water colours so I definately need to steer clear of anything like that I've bought a nice modern looking box frame from IKEA and now I am trying to work out what to put in it. Anyone have any ideas? I am capable of drawing anything animals and plants (but maybe that's a little 'dated' for what she wants), people and places, etc. Not so good with abstract stuff. The space I have to fill is about 30 cm square with a large matt around it (total frame size is 50cm square). The medium I will be using will be charcoal (black or dark brown or grey) highlighted with colours in either water colour or the coloured charcoal pencils (haven't decided yet)
  23. Wow, that's incredible! Like you say they must be very bonded. Could you try just taking the less interested cock out and leaving the other cock with the two hens. I am very surprised at the reaction they've had to each other!!
  24. Hey Jenene, if you give me the dimensions of your cage base I'll make you a really good seed catcher and post it up to you, I have found it great for keeping the mess inside, even when I had a lorikeet in one of the cages!! I have tried to buy them the same but can't find them anywhere. no matter what there is still a little that gets out due to the flapping of wings, etc but I found this meant I could vacuum a couple of times a week instead of every day.
  25. Something mine love at this stage is chicken crumbles. The type you can buy from the supermarket or stockfeed places for baby chickens to eat. Soak them in water until they are soft
