Do Owls Eat Budgies?
It could seriously injure them though if they were sleeping on the wire. My lorikeet was hanging off the aviary wire and a bird of prey flew down and bit her through the wire. She had a puncture wound on the top of her head and was lucky to survive!

Rat Trap Recommendation
THe bloke who recommended them to me has been using them for ages and he has never had a non killed rat, basically if the trap goes off and the rat isn't in the right position then basically they won't get caught at all.

Out Of The Mouths Of Babes
And it will only get worse Neat, it won't be until her early 20s that she actually realises that she doesn't know more than you  My mum and dad used to have a sign on their wall at home that read: Teenagers Move out, get a job and pay your own bills.. while you still know everything :bliss:

Av 1, Rat 0
Hey AV do you want a piece of my fine wire mesh to put on the floor of the aviary for the time being so they can't dig in? You would just need to put a line of bricks along the edges to weigh it down that way

Rat Trap Recommendation
Someone at my work has recommended a trap called a Nooski, which is a kill trap which has no poison bait and is relatively safe for larger animals, it also has a very high kill rate and won't only partially trap or injure without killing.. He's going to lend me one to try so I'll let you know how it goes

Help I Think My Hen Is Sick
Just because the others don't seem sick now doesn't mean they aren't carrying something that hasn't shown itself yet. The two that got sick are the ones breeding which is stressful, hte other may have been lucky because they aren't as stressed.

Help I Think My Hen Is Sick
If you look I have called you Clancy in all my other posts..it was a typo

Help I Think My Hen Is Sick
Clancy, you need to contact your closest avian vet and have her seen TODAY
-
Help I Think My Hen Is Sick
You have learnt a hard lesson here Clancy, all new birds should be quarantined for this reason

Help I Think My Hen Is Sick
This most likely means she hasn't been eating, doesn't bode well for her chicks, she needs to be seen urgently.

Help I Think My Hen Is Sick
What's wrong with your hen: she's sick, there could be all sorts of things causing it and we really can't diagnose the problem here What you should do: Take her to see an AVIAN vet. If you let us know where you are located then we can possibly recommend someone Good Luck Alxso have you got a foster hen for the babies? If she dies at this point then the babies stand almost no chance as they are pretty much too small to hand raise so it's really important you get the hen treated. In the meantime put a warm light over the cage and keep her away from drafts

Arcadia Lighting
Also for those that only have one or two smaller cages or even for in their hospital cages, if you click on the link on the left that say bird light compact they have a smaller version which is in the same style as one of those energy efficient light globes

Arcadia Lighting

Soft Shell Eggs
okay, figured I better check because Arcadia makes a range including reptile ones, so it's important that people realise that there's a difference
-
Soft Shell Eggs
So, they are essentially the full spectrum ones used for lizards then? So I guess I would only need one in my large flight and then one in my breeding aviary, not so bad

Soft Shell Eggs

Out Of The Mouths Of Babes
My four year old is a classic and definately good for a laugh if you listen closely to what he says... In a discussion of who was the biggest and smallest in our family: Alex: Maxie is the smallest and mummy is the biggest Me: What about daddy? Alex: No, he's not the biggest, he's the giantist!!! Today at the doctors when the doctor checked his ears: Alex: Mum, can you see the light coming out my other ear? Me: No darling, your brain is in the way Alex: You can see my brain?!!! Anyone else have a kid classic to share?

Soft Shell Eggs
Maybe your Calcium kicked in I would leave her for the moment as it sounds like you have treated her for the problem successfully, if you have any problems let me know, I have eggs all over the place so I'm sure I can put them somewhere for the time being and we'll see what happens when chicks start arriving and it becomes clear how many actually bubs there will be in nests.
