  1. Be careful doing that Sunnie as you don't know if they have sprayed them
  2. The birds you buy from the market won't definately be bad bad but as you can't see what sort of conditions they are coming from it can be very pot luck. Why don't you ask the person at the market if you can come and visit them and buy a bird off them another time. That way you can check out their set up
  3. In a VERY large aviary they would probably be okay but in your average garden aviary it would be pretty risky
  4. If she is a YF2 and has darker patches near her head it possibly means that she is a violet carrier
  5. I'll hunt it all down and pull the images in the next few days when I have a moment
  6. Hi all, just a thought... I have this great trophy here which I would like to pass on to the winner of a super huge BBC comp. Any other suggestions would be great but I was thinking a budgie of the year comp where members vote for the best budgie of the month picture. Voting to start after the December budgie of the month is announced. Thoughts...
  7. okay, well it was more just out of curiosity and for a bit of fun anyway so maybe I'll just chuck him up there with no expectations and see how he goes The hen who I just posted a picture of has faint ones as you can see, the cock's a DF obviously so if they're there they can't be seen so we shall see what happens with the chicks...
  8. What a cutey Tell me, does suffusion on DF birds cause big probs on the show bench at a club level or is it not really worth taking abird with it along? If I end up fostering out their eggs (and therefore they have no need to be in the breeding cage in a few weeks time) I'd like to take my two spangles along to the show just to see how they do These ones:
  9. Thanks Kaz and congrats I think just to make life easier I will still not include them in the breeding but it's nice to know there is hope for the odd one that pops up with a 'less than desirable' mutation combo
  10. This arvo, when I went to see her in hospital with her new baby When was the last time you held a baby?
  11. I used to jog my dog with my neighbour while she rode her horse, one day we stopped at the farriers on the way home and the farrier asked if I'd like a bone for the dog.... I should have asked more questions before I said yes! He came back with about half a horse leg including fur and hoof!!!! My dog proudly carried it all the way home. When we told my neighbours mother she was horrified and claimed that our dog was going to start attacking horses now
  12. Should have guessed. I have a few big grey normal cocks and a grey opaline or two floating around out there so let me know if you want to borrow any, I think they are all cocks though but there might be a hen.
  13. Don't worry AV, hopefully we'll get some nice bubbas out of him. On another note have you decided where you are heading with your breeding or still finding your feet?
  14. Sorry but my carpet insists that my cat eats a premium dry diet, if she doesn't she gets the runs everywhere. In the past we have tried her on everything from straight mince of various types to tin muck and the only ting she settles on is the dry food. We did all this testing while we were staying at our old house and when we left we had to replace the entire carpet due to all the spot cleaning we had to do, I ain't going there again!!! I agree Jenene and even if you have made the decision to use dry there are better brands for much the same price available through stock feed places. The brand I use for my dog costs about the same per kilo as homebrand and it is also the brand used by a large number of greyhound breeders. It is good quality, with what I have been told is a good proportion of the important bits in it. Heck, if people can race a greyhound on the stuff it's got to be halfway decent!
  15. Somewhere around there is a scoring system used to grade dry foods based on protein levels and the proportion of certain ingredients, etc., it's quite eye opening.
  16. Another iunteresting point to note here though is that pet mince sold through supermarkets almost always has preservative 220(I think that's the number) in it. This preservative has been implicated as a cause of strokes in pets including my own cat s make sure that if you choose a meat diet that it is purchased through an outlet that does not use preservatives.
  17. Quail eggs are a delicacy, very European. Right up there with caviar. Just think you'll be able to tell your friends that for lunch you had a 'mixed leaf salad with capers and quail eggs'
  18. Don't worry I would never send him away He's one of those special ones, lucky for him he's rather beautiful too I'm hoping we'll be able to put one of their chicks on the show bench either at the last club meet this year or the first next year.
  19. Just think of them like mini chickens They are fiddly to peel but I don't mind doing it just to see their grins I like to put them in little salads and things like that, they have a slightly stronger flavour than a chook egg. Dont forget they are very small so don't cook them as long and dip them in cool water to cool them quickly.
  20. By far my favorite pair is my spangle pair, we just have to hope he's filled the eggs. I know AV wants one of his babies but other than that I'll be keeping them all for the future (and sending one to AV's isn't really sending it away anyway ) The other one I really want to breed is the crested pair, I am hanging out to take a chick or two to the club show in January (or maybe December depending on how they go)
  21. Hey AV ya there? You cool with the choice I made for Ozzie?
  22. quail eggs They're a delicacy don't you know No reason you couldn't eat a budgie egg but they're even smaller than a quail egg
  23. Yes of course, but it's nice if they like it too I feed my dogs the food that they thrive best on. My kelpie gets Coprice working dog formula and my Basset gets Eukanuba. Plus I give them whole raw eggs as treats and chicken mince. I get LOTS of comments about how healthy they look, how good their weight is and how shiny their coats are.
