One Proud Nanny!
If you want to look it up the tube is called a 'Sylvania Reptistar' terrarium lamp, it does UV-A and UV-B according to the little thing on the tube itself. I haven't tried this tube for over a year but it was working the last time I used it so we'll see how we go after Leigh looks at the box. I think he'll be down next weekend so I'll get him to repair it then

Canker?
Just another thought too, we had a vet do a great talk at our budgie club tonight and he said that many of his clients live a long way away and he has had everything from budgie poo to dead budgie mailed to him (with a cool pack obviously) so it's something to consider for the future if you can't see a vet in a hurry, express post will have the sample at the vet the next day

I've never had a straight flouro in it. It has a 2ft flouro fitting used for a UV tube and a normal light globe fitting used for a 20 watt light globe for warmth. A seperate flouro light really isn't necessary from what I understand (it's serves no purpose other than extra light), the flouro light is on it's own plug so we used to have a timer set up seperately for each and it would have the UV tube on for the appropriate number of hours and the rest of the time the 20 watt globe provided sufficient light anyway. Because it is white melamine 20 watts lights it up fine

I Have Decided On My Specialty
I have made the decision finally, I'm going to specialise in spangle and also work towards a second line of crested as a side project. I'm getting lots of conflicting info regarding the use of opalines in spangle breeding. I don't want a lengthy debate here but I'm hoping that others can give me their views on the pros and cons of this. My stance at this stage is that I personally don't like the opaline spangle combo in the one bird, so if I did use opalines I would most likely use a opaline hen to a spangle cock so that I would know for sure that the subsequent hen chicks had no opaline, cock chicks would only be kept past the 5 month old mark if they showed particular promise, as they would be split opaline which is something I want to try and exclude to lesson the number of chicks which are unsuitable simply due to annoying hidden splits (makes the outcomes more predictable that way) .At this stage I understand that the use of opalines has been to increase spot but this has come with the risk of having birds with full spot which is obviously something to avoid. I plan to keep a line of normals in order to provide birds with as few splits as possible to put to either my crested lineor to the spangle line, is this a better option than opaline?

I have that four foot wooden one here AV that I need to get rid of. It needs the flouro attachment repaired but I can get Leigh to do that for him It doesn't have a thermo but we kept beardies comfortably in it at a nice temp with a 20watt globe

Training A Show Budgie?
I was discussing this with some people at our club a couple of months ago, we came to the conclusion that a tame show bird was potentially better as they would be more likely to relax at a show with lots of people around and not freak out and jump around the cage, just our opinions though.

Freak Out! Lost Budgie.
I wouldn't do another ivermectin, as Libby saidf he'll be protected

Opinions Please On These Birds

Opinions Please On These Birds
Ummm those photos were taken in a show cage I'm going to take the middle one and probably the last one but I think I'll leave the TCB for the moment. I'll talk $ with him

Someone Talk Me Out Of It Please!
I enjoy taking my kids places although I must admit at times there are things we don't do just because it is too hard but that is more because I operate as a 'single parent' than because I don't want to do them. Neither of the boys have started swimming lessons yet but that is more a factor of having to take both the boys and then I can't be in two places at once. Once Alex is old enough to do his lesson without a parent in the water with him then I'll be taking thm both and while Alex is having a lesson I'll either do an official lesson with Max or we'll just do some water familiarity stuff and have a play

Opinions Please On These Birds
So Norm are you saying that they may all be worth it? It isn't easy to get a hold of TCBs . I can check if the ring numbers are close on the two opalines but they are from someone who is deceased so records are a little patchy at the mment.

Opinions Please On These Birds
Hmmm... well number two will come home with me then, if he will give him to me a little cheaper I might take number three but we'll see

Opinions Please On These Birds
I very nearly did on the spot Libby, but the reality is I don't have the space or the money to be purchasing birds just cause I'm a sucker

Opinions Please On These Birds
Here are the reasons these three jumped out at me : 1. He's a TCB which is something I've always wanted but I'll resist the urge if he's not worth the $ from a show breeding perspective 2. He jumped out at me as having show breeding potential 3. He just had this gorgeous 'presence' about him

Opinions Please On These Birds
From recollection they were all either 06 or 07 birds

Opinions Please On These Birds
I have the chance to purchase one or more of these birds but I was hoping others might give me opinions before I decide. Excuse the fact that they are all moulting at the moment, not alot to be done about that These birds are between $30-40 each 1. TCB cock 2. Opaline cock 1 3. Opaline cock 2

Someone Talk Me Out Of It Please!
Also because without both of us working we have no chance of ever having the security of our own house. My oldest wants to paint his walls and build a cubby, two things we won't be able to do until we have saved up the rest of our house deposit and found a place to call home. The time we have together though is all quality time, we play in the yard, read books and go to the park, plus they have great friends at childcare/kinder. We don't have luxuries, just the necessities really but just having 'The Great Australian Dream' really is becoming just a dream for those who aren't lucky enough to have a partner on a substantial income.

My Budgie Has 7 Eggs
Can you see veins in them? The ones that are only new might not show anything yet but at four days old they should have nice visible red veins and then they will develop a mass which is the chick

My Budgie Has 7 Eggs
I have found that often the first couple may be sterile and often the last couple won't hatch if they hatch a long time after the first ones as they get dirty. Have you candled them yet to see if the older ones are fertile?
-
Dead Eggs?
If she laid them more than about four days ago you should be able to see veins in them if you shine a small torch through them. It needs to be a torch that won't get hot though, an LED one is best. I use the little LED light that is on my camera phone

Bad News Av
That's what I was thinking SW. The cage they are in divides down the middle with a wire divider so I'm going to slip the divider in tomorrow morning and seperate him into the other half. That way they'll still be with each other but with bars in between. It will be like they're having conjugal visits

Anyone Had A Ceasarian?
OMG, that is the cutest baby ever! I promise after dinner I'll post a photo. He was a tiny 5 lbs 6 ounces and he's in the special care nursery getting a 'boost' but he'll be fine after some TLC

Suggestions Please
It is not uncommon for aviary birds to go a bit troppo in a small cage, how many other birds are in the aviary and how many nest boxes are in there?
