  1. oooo...I wonder if you are right, that's similiar to what I was thinking but I said greywing but I like your theory. Kaz it's time to enlighten us!
  2. I bought this pretty painting today to fill a gap above whereI plan to put my new buffet unit. It is by a Melbourne artist and I think it is just gorgeous
  3. They have only been in the communal cage for about a month, prior to that they were indoors so I am well aware of how messy their cage would get, but it was all poop and not much food mess.
  4. I have had two drown themselves in my outside birds water bowl lately which is rather concerning. That being said I haven't seen any since and traos haven't caught any (and they were a male and a female) so I'm hoping they might have been the only rodent residents in the aviary at that time, I did find a nest of babies in the same week which I euthanased, so hopefully I have seen the end of them for the moment and the traps will keep them under control now.
  5. There aren't really any 'hidden' areas which is why I thought I'd ask before I tried, I'll start at the back on the bottom edge where it won't be noticable if something does go wron. Thanks
  6. Does anyone know if it is okay to iron chifon with a cool iron? I have a nice black cocktail dress that badly needs a press after being in storage but it doesn't seem to have any care instructions on it. Should I put a cloth over it if I iron it?
  7. I would disagree with that actually (unless you have some sort of evidence or something), my lorikeets live in a community aviary and are often naughty and steal seed even though they have lorikeet food available to them, they also eat apples and other fruit and vegetables and while some does end up flicked all over the place the vast majority of it gets eaten
  8. I was only asking about the eyes as I have a pied fallow which is very similiar(and has iris rings)Renee by wing markings I think Kaz means the clearflights
  9. Well they don't eat at night so I would think that if you give him a feed before he goes to bed he should be fine until the morning. Will he take the egg and biscuit off a spoon or do you have to force it into him? You could try putting some in a little dish for him
  10. Are her eyes back or plum? Renee you can see the pied spot on the back of her head if you look carefully
  11. I don't suppose anychemicals might have been sprayed near him, were any neighbours spraying herbicide late yesterday or anything like that?
  12. Hmm well she's either a clearflight or a pied, she's grey wing I think she's a clearflight greywing TCB....actually I'm pretty stumped but that's my guess, can you tell us whether she has any pied markings on her as that would change everything That's assuming her wing markings are actuelly grey and not cinnamon. If they are cinnamon she's a greygreen
  13. Just to make life difficult we have a state based dialect too. Nsw have potato scallops, victorians have potato cakes > both equal a thin slice of potato, battered and deep fried Nsw have potato bake, victorians have scalloped potatoes > both are lots of thin slices of potato with a cheesy creamy sauce baked in the oven Given both these items are available in fish and chip shops you can imagine the confusion if you are travellig interstate! Other similiar problems occur with other states too
  14. Probably he has loose feathers because of the mites and they simply came out when you had to hold him to give him the dose. You would have to put quite a bbit on before you overdosed him
  15. Budgies will eat through shade cloth so you really need wire all the way around includin on the base. ONce you have wire on the base hammer some tent pegs through the wire and into the ground to hold it in position Some natural branches would be greta too
  16. I put a small amount in a dish on the floor in the aviary under the table for the quails but that's about it. I wouldn't give grit to ANY parrot :rip:
  17. Seriously, you'll be fine, if all else fails just think, "if he was a budgie what would I do". Really budgies are just mini parrots so they like their food bigger but that's about it. :rip:
  18. Shell grit? Don't forget a large parrot is just like a big budgie, personally I don't give my large parrots shell grit for the same reason I don't give it to my budgies.
  19. We use all those here, the only one I'm lost on is the pack rat one...
  20. I have seen others which I think are called a snuggle buddy or a cuddle buddy or something like that which are tied onto the side of the cage and they are like a furry 'wing' that they can snuggle up to. Good for youngsters.
  21. Ah ha, I had a feeling you meant one of those but I've never heard it called a bird bunk before Very easy :rip: Get a piece of thin ply wood in the size you want the base. Cut two pieces of fabric just wider than the length of the wood(to allow for a seam) and long enough to allow for the bottom width plus the 'walls' (don't forget seams) and sew together on the long edges (it will turn out like a tube). Then slide your wood in to position and run a line of stitching along each side of the wood to hold it in place. Then fold your sides up and sew them together at the top, sew two pieces of cord into the top seam when you do this to attach some clips to. Done
  22. I found this site a while ago but had to hunt it down again when the subjec of bogans came up in Kaz' thread on Aussie language. It will be especially hilarious for us Melbournites that understand the suburbs used but I'm sure others will get the idea :rip: I felt it deserved it's own topic SAVE THE BOGANS
  23. I've never heard of them either Jenene, can you provide a bit more of a description?
  24. She'll be right ---Everything will be fine Bonza! ----fantastic/that's great! As in "What a bonza day we're having today!(nice weather) What a bogan ----um how to explain this... well this is a good explanation >Save the bogan You little rippa! > As in your footy team just kicked a really good goal YOU LITTLE RIPPAAAA!!!! :hap:
  25. More phrases for you to practice Elly: She'll be right Bonza! What a bogan... You little rippa! :hap:
