  1. Thanks Deb The dogs seem happy, I called them inside before when we got home and they both looked out the door and then lay back down and went back to sleep
  2. I built this yesterday for my doggies as our new 'puppy' is now verging on 14kg (at only just over 4 months old!) and they don't fit in their kennel together anymore. To buy one this size was going to cost me over $400 for a plain timber one, I made this one for less than $150 including buying a cheap jigsaw and a pair of tin snips and the paint. It's not quite finished yet, there is a decorative door frame and a decorative border for the front of the roof line to go on and a perspex window to go in the side, a job for next weekend It's 1.2metres(including verandah) by .95 metres so plenty big enough for them to curl up in together.
  3. Libby sugar gliders, ringtails and brushtail possums can be held on a basic wildlife licence issued by the Vic dept. of sustainability, they can only be sold by pet shops which hold a wildlife traders licence Ummm... I might have gone without you AV I promise I will come with you again another time though, I was interested to see what they had. I rather liked the tank theyhad set up for the frogs on the front counter (the big one) but even second hand Jock was going to charge me $200 for it and I can buy a brand new one for $150 so I didn't bother, I did by a few budgie breeding boxes though and a couple of fish for my pond. I still need some more breeding boxes, but I won't be able to afford them for a few weeks as I missed a fortnights worth of pay because of time off for my wedding, so I'm poor
  4. In humans atleast that can be a symptom of an infection so I would be heading straight for the vet to be sure.
  5. Yeah the one he has in there at the moment which has 'social issues' I think he currently has $200 but you know I would give him a great home
  6. AV if you have any dramas with your licence let me know as I have mine now so you can always get him put onto mine and I'll transfer him over to you once it's sorted Also if he needs a home for the vicious sugar glider and he'll do a better price let me know as I really like him but I'm not paying that for a nasty pasty
  7. Whether you are talking about budgies, lovebirds or any other species the reality is that there can be conflicts in your aviary and you need to be prepared to seperate individuals if they are causing problems.
  8. How did the leg get broken in the first place?
  9. I have the same thing so I just use the doors and if a particular pair doesn't like that arrangement then I have a couple of spare cages I use
  10. If the breeding cage is up off the ground I've never found that it really matters where the box is but theoretically higher is probably better, often you don't have any choice about where to locate it.
  11. I don't mind looking at 30 photos of Milly and Squee :hap:
  12. Neat do you know what the theory is behind it?
  13. Personally having been in the same situation I don't think you should go through with it without your parents support. Maybe you could ask them how you could gain their support, say by doing jobs to save up the money to buy the things you need to make a btter cage. That way you would be showing maturity to your parents and they might be more willing to support your endeavour. Incase you are thinking I'm just some old fogey having a go at you I'm only in my 20s so I do still remember what it's like to be 14 and desperate for a pet.
  14. Just a thought but have you heard of freecycle? It's a yahoo group which has groups in all areas of Australia and everything offered or asked for must be free, chances are if you asked on there someone in your area might actually have a big cage they could give you, if you were in Melbourne I'd offer you one of my old ones that I don't use anymore. No one here is attacking you but it is important that anything you are going to use to house an animal is suitable and most importantly safe for that purpose, the guys here are just trying to make sure that you don't have to suffer the heartbreak of sick or dead budgies that's all
  15. It is interesting that we will put photos of our kids up at their 21st birthday, etc of them running around naked as small children and cal it cute and as consenting age adults it is once again okay as long as they are in a frame on the wall in a art museum we call it art but that middle age group from ?-18 it's not okay. I'm fence sitting on this one I just think that is interesting
  16. If you have tetras in there too then about 24 would be a good middle ground for everyone I agree with SW about waiting before getting any more. Over the course of about the first two-three weeks after you set up a new tank there is a build up of good bacteria and ammonia. In a mature tank the two are balanced but when a tank is new the ammonia levels can easily overtake what the bacteria can deal with. By only having a couple of fish for the first few weeks the growth of good bacteria is stimulated but without upsetting the balance. Keep an eye on the pH levels, if the tank starts to become acidic at all it is an indicator of overstocking.
  17. You could get lutino hens if Flame is a boy ?????
  18. *I WANN PICCIES NOOWWWWWW* * Drops to floor and kicks feet*
  19. Have you tried a little bit of celery leaves? I have not yet found a budgie that didn't love them, not too much though
  20. They are looking for a home for them because they can't keep them, they just chose an inappropriate location to post it. Maybe they might appreciate a link to the forum so they can offer them here
  21. What are you planning on putting with the bettas? In order to reduce the risk of disease I would still lower the temp in that tank by a few degrees, infact I would go as low as 22. While not ideal below about 20 bettas will actually live in cold water in a warm room (I have one in my bedroom with no heater and think about where they are normally located in pet shops) so a lower temp will still suit them and it will reduce the risk of fungal and bacterial infections Fancy goldfish with the wide tums are much more prone to problems with their gas bladders, as long as his scales aren't sticking out like a pine cone he is probably okay, many fancy goldfish live their entire lives upside down even!
  22. The males often spend time in the box trying to encourage the hen
  23. Jean is a pied, the others all look quite pale so they may all be pieds, can you se dark pin feathers coming throughon their bums and a dark sheen on their skin(like on Jean's head) or is it very pink with pale white/yellow pin feathers?
  24. Oh yes goldfish will live in tropical but they are much more prone to disease in warm water
  25. The temp depends ont the species, with a community tank especially one with goldfish in it you need to go a bit lower :hap:
