  1. Kathik it really depends on what wormers you have available to you over there, what is the active ingredient in the wormer you plan to use? I use Ivermectin spot on on the back of the neck for all my budgies and this covers a large number of parasites. I also worm them every three months and I do babies when they are about 6 weeks old
  2. I haven't got the piccies yet myself Some plants rot really easily so let me know if you like and I can come have a look, also I have a 'pond' here(it's actually a large terracotta pot) which I have some plants in which will do well in tropical and just keep growing like crazy. Also if you know anyone with masses of mondo grass in their gardens it is very tough and will last quite a while in an aquarium, take it by the roots and wash the dirt off really well and then plant it in the gravel. Ebay is a great source of some plants that can be very expensive at pet shops.
  3. I used to have a tank similiar to that AV with a single fighter male and about ten female fighters in it. You can get females that are nearly as bright as the males but just with shorter fins so it was really pretty If you want some help let me know, I have worked in both wholesale and retail aquariums and while I don't have any at the moment I used to have lots of tropical fish.
  4. Thanks for clarifying that Kaz, I was trying to remember the specifics as no one else seemed to be around to help.
  5. In show birds it is after their adult moult, essentially when the bars dissappear off their heads and they develop other characteristics of adult budgies such as eye rings so around 5-7 months is about right I think.
  6. I have seen the test in that article done. As SW said it is based on a dry pan, the same test done with food in the pan didn't reach that temperature. A dry pan will reach those sort of temperatures though as it oesn't have the cooling effect of the food cooking in the pan.
  7. Does Bill look like Suzie in my signature but with a longer beak? He sounds like a long-billed Corella (Suzie is a 'Little Corella', sometimes people call them short-billed Corellas)
  8. I agree with Norm on the type 2, on second look I can see the yellow flecking starting on the body.
  9. I actually want some fertile egss to foster under a hen with my fatty boy to try and help him loose the weight (as I suspect he is too fat to do the deed adequately), so I may let them lay a round and then foster them out to the other hen.
  10. I will see how they go, they are still raising their current chicks one of which is a week younger than the others. I will be away for a week and the birds will be cared for by a sitter so I'm hoping that their won't be any eggs before I get back and then I might seperate them.
  11. They are all spangles, is one of the parents green split blue? You have a green spangle and two yellow face type 1 blue spangles. There is a chance the green may be yellow face too but you can't see it because of the green but you would find out if you bred that one in the future.
  12. I have never been to Eltham stockfeed so I can't compare but I have always been very happy with the seed from Greensborough.
  13. A bit bigger than a sparrow, but yes very tiny :hap: I have a pair of bush budgies(captive bred ones though) so I will try and get a photo to compare for you
  14. I know a few breeders here let their pairs go for three clutches. I was just wondering what others feelings on this were, particularly if the first two clutches were only small. I had been worried about the health of this hen but it seems my fears were unfounded as the thing that I had thought may have been egg peritonitis seems to just have been a small fat pad. At any rate she is looking fantastic now and the cock is also in great health. Their previous two clutches only had two and three chicks and I was wondering whether it would be okay to let them have a third.
  15. A bush budgie is tiny, if you think of how much smaller a pet type is than a show bird a bush budgie is that much smaller again than a pet type.
  16. I'm home! We don't head of on our trip away(skiing) until tomorrow. Everything went great except that I have the flu and by the end of the night I had lost my voice completely Photos should be with us in a week or two so I'll post them as soon as they arrive.
  17. Thanks for all the good wishes guys The good news is that it's pretty much all done. I need to pick up my flower girl's necklace in the morning then off to get hair done after lunch. At some point I need to pack the boys bags for their holiday with nanna. Photo's will be provided as soon as they are available
  18. The big day is nearly here. I'm just finishing off the placecards now and then I have to finish the cake, we have a run through with our celebrant this arvo and then our fnal dance lesson tonight
  19. There are a couple of different types of colour blindness though. My grandfather suffers from total colourblindness, he sees his world in shades of grey
  20. My babies always seem to go through a skinny stage just as they are starting to leave the nest and then it takes a little while for them to put it back on, I think it is a reduction in food from mum and dad trying to get them to wean
  21. Anyone thought that maybe he is colour blind?
  22. I agree entirely with you Norm but at the same time I have to disagree to some extent. The problem is that many of these species have already become seriously jeopardised by the activities of humans and we now need to start thinking about trying to save every one we can. A baby humpback would be an excellent way to start as I think they are fairly tough compared to other whale species. Jenene wildlife Victoria is appealing for people to contact them to ask them to do more, the following is their email and I am positive they would be happy for me to put it up here: On Sunday August 17 a young humpback whale named ‘Colin’, was discovered separated from its mother in Sydney’s Pittwater. It is very young and still needs milk. National Parks and Wildlife rescue teams have tried unsuccessfully to assist the lost, weak calf. Unfortunately they have now taken up a negative attitude and are talking of euthanasing the baby whale despite people in Sydney saying they believe they can feed it. When people first attempted to rescue stranded whales in the early 1980s, despite negative attitudes from the National Parks and Wildlife Service, the public refused to give up and always maintained a positive attitude. This led to the establishment of successful State Government whale rescue plans, which have become part of our culture. We now need to learn how to save young whales and shooting them is not the answer. Please help this baby whale by contacting NSW Premier, Morris IEMMA and the Sydney Morning Herald. Express your outrage at the suggestion of euthanasia for this baby whale and ask that everything possible be done to feed and save it. Sydney Morning Herald(02) 9282 2833 newsdesk@smh.com.au Premier Morris IEMMA(02) 9584 1788 lakemba@parliament.nsw.gov.au This is really urgent. Please act now.
  23. I can answer your question. I put my name in for the free globes out of curiosity. I got the email telling me to claim as there were only X number available and within two minutes of getting the email they were apparently all gone. Now if I want my free globes I have to go in with their 'help you find a better energy option' thing
  24. Well AV I have someone waiting for two babies from me that they want soonish but mine aren't laying Let me know when you have babies if you like as she already has one of my birds and is getting another as a friend for her current one from my current clutch, these two would be gifts for her cousins who have fallen in love with the one she already has so I'll give her your details if you like :hap:. I sell mine to her as tame babies for $20

Looks like a boy to me but a better picture would help. You can make a mash with chicken crumbles (from the supermarket) and egg and biscuit, it might give him a bit of oomph
