  1. After long arguments with my childrens kinder about whether or not they will recommend my oldest for school next year(he i one month two young to go but needs to) they won't write the letter for "liability reasons", lets just say the kinder teacher wants to write it but the centre is a large company that we all know and love and they won't let her. ANYWAY, I have settled on taking him out of care and homeschooling him next year but I need supplies, mainly books. They don't necessarily have to be curriculum type books but anything topical and interesting. His current bookshelf includes books on snakes, volcanoes, the human body, worms, native animals, geography and a few single books from childrens encyclopedias. If anyone has anything else that might help him expand his little mind that maybe their kids have grown out of or just don't use I would be happy to cover the cost of posting it/them to Melbourne. It doesn't have to be things aimed at little kids either, some of his favorite books to thumb through are my year 12 biology text books
  2. That's cool Chryso! Do you do it with a club or just whenever/whereever?
  3. I think the main thing you will get from self defence lessons is confidence. A personal alarm or a spray of deoderant in the eyes is just as effective
  4. You can rinse some Aspro clear around in your mouth to help with the pain, it soaks directly into your gums, then swallow it for continued effect
  5. Yeah I like my pink budgie too I tried putting him in the aviary with the other galah and the corella and he got all stressed and started to loose weight, put him back with his little friends and he's back to his old self. I swear he thinks he's a budgie Denise yes the top screws on but it is very stable and easy to unscrew as long as you have it on a flat/stable floor. I can unscrew it 3/4 full of water and not spill a drop
  6. I would let the shop know. I'm not saying you have to go in there and demand anything out of them or have a go at them but I would be letting them know that the bird was sick as you thought. If they offer you your money back again you could always go, that would be great but I'd rather take the refund and keep the bird and put the money towards the treatment and see what they say It will cost them more to treat the bird if they were to take it back off you so from their perspective that makes financial sense.
  7. I think you might have just inspired me to paint mine Neat I won't be pulling it apart to line it though If you got some paper with pics of budgies on it you could decoupage some budgies on the outside
  8. Go to the first page Joel and there is a link where you can look it up
  9. She actually has it covering her entire chest too but I just couldn't get her to hold still in a good position for a photo of it. When she is perching I'll take a proper photo for you all
  10. Yeah she's violet, it's just the good old camera causing problems as usual
  11. This is mum and dad. Last clutch they had two SF spangles, both boys, one like mum and one like dad. This time the possibilities were DF spangle, SF spangle and normal and they had one of each! Mum is a violet spangle Dad is a sky spangle carrying violet I think the normal chick is either cobalt or violet but the coloured feathers are only just poking through so I'll have tow wait a few more days to tell for sure
  12. In summer I give them stone fruit like peaches (but not too much as it gets the bowels moving), on hot days watermelon is a nice treat. I don't feed much fruit, mainly vegies. Mine get apple, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, silverbeet, celery and bok choy pus a sprinkle of frozen peas and corn.
  13. They seem to mainly poop in a line under a main branch, which I assume is mainly where they like to roost. I sweep the floor about onc a week, and being lino it is easily washed if it gets too bad. I have ahd it set up for about 6 weeks
  14. They were already sold before they even hatched! The DF is staying with me and the other two are going to people I know
  15. They are still only little and I have to say the colour is a little hard to see on the DF spangle but it's the best I could do until she will sit up on my finger, so here they are.
  16. I use a wide flat dish for my seed so they can always get to the seed underneath and a slightly smaller one for my fruit/veg. For water I have a bird bath which sits higher than the seed so it doesn't get filled with husks, normally I only have to top it up and I give it a quick wash about once a week. And a picture of the happy chickens
  17. Yep you culd get yellow faces, but i think greywing needs a gene for each parent. If the chicks are green though you won't be able to tell which ones are carrying yellowface.
  18. How old, do you mean chicks or young birds? Chicks should get a raising mix, young birds just a good seed, vegies and a vitamin/mineral supplement is what mine get Also if he is already thin I would recommend getting the cockatiel mix this time as it has a few extra seeds in it which are a little fattier to help him get the weight back on.
  19. Home brand is often older and it loses it's nutritional value the older it gets. With only one budgie it won't be expensive to feed him a better quality seed.
  20. Green is dominant so if she is green and not blue (with the YF2 turning her feathers green) then unless he is split all the bubs ill be green split blue :budgiedance: I'm sure they'll still be really pretty though
  21. "Maniac" :budgiedance:
  22. Not stupid, youaren't to know, especially if you don't live in either of those countries. Englih is a term used by some people to mean show type :budgiedance:
  23. Seed heads will take a while, best bet is to do two pans next time and put one aside for a month or so. :budgiedance:
  24. He is also yellowface. Tell me is your hen blue around the vent? She may also be a yellow face blue bird if she is. If not you will get all greens unless she is split blue
  25. There is only one species of budgie Humans have messed with the original budgie lots for it to become our pet type and show type birds so they do tend to vary alot in size and shape. It's nothing to worry about :budgiedance: The reason for colour difference in her beak is due to her feather colouring.
