  1. Buddy was my little reject who I decided not to send to his intended home as he had 'chewing issues'. I bullied AV into taking him and he has settled in very well His original intended owner is waiting for one from the current clutch instead
  2. Where do you live? My suggestion would be to visit a breeder and see what's involved in breeding before you decide to breed. If you just want a friend for your current bird then the simple answer is to not provide a nest box, they will only breed if they have a place to do so.
  3. Is it his head turning paler? If so I would say he is an opaline and he is losing his baby colouring, there is a mtation which changes colour but I would say if he is only a few months old then that would be what it is
  4. Awwww.... my babies all grown up. Does he still think he's a labrador?
  5. Sounds like she has fun chatting to the other birds If you change your mind I have two in the nest already and three eggs to go
  6. Insulation is the key there. A tree hollow is extremely well insulated, compare that to a thin wooden nest box.
  7. Good point Liv, I have a couple in my aviary that have always had some movement in their tails. They aren't sick it's just how they are.
  8. Yeah, he seems healthy otherwise and he does try and fly he just can't get much lift
  9. Where are you located? If one of the bird sales is on mear you soon there are almost always people selling small bottles of the ivermectin spot on for $3-4 each. A great investment
  10. He can't fly, he tried to fly up onto the perch in the quarantine cage which is only about 2 inches off the ground and hit it face first instead
  11. I start handling all my chicks for taming from the time they open their eyes, before this I just handle them as necessary to check on them and make sure they are developing properly. I have raised some gorgeous tame babies this way and the parents do all the hard work I take one chick out at a time, normally just after they have had a feed so I know they won't miss anything important and handle them for ten minutes each. My little boy helps me handle them from this age too.
  12. I went to get a couple more birds off the bloke who gave me that nice grey green boy. I got a pretty bright green normal hen, she's a good size, not huge but he showed me her brother and he's a big boy so she may throw large chicks. Anyway, when I went the other day there was this sad looking fellow pottering around in there, he's not sick but he is obese. I nearly took him the other day but I resisted, well of course he came home with me today I would like to know the best way to help him loose weight? Obviously I won't be feeding him oats but any other suggestions? He's a gorgeous boy and if I can get a bit of weight off bim I'd like to put him with the opaline hen I got with the other boy. No photos until tomorrow sorry as the camera's out of order.
  13. Did you ask them which shop they got it from? If you ask me they are at fault here as they are the ones that have misinformed the woman
  14. If it is scarring it's not the end of the world, it just means she may always look like she is breathing heavily, but she should be fine.
  15. Birds that have had long term illness can get scarring on their lungs which can result in them always having respitory difficulty. If she has been treated for everything and she seems fine otherwise this may be the case.
  16. Thanks Kaz, I'll check it out.
  17. Hmmmm....I have an empty six foot tank sitting outside at the mometn. You have almost inspired me to do something with it, maybe after the wedding once I have time.
  18. NN I would glady make you as much mud cake as you could eat if you would pop yorself onto the next plane and float on over here and fix my washing machine
  19. We have fixed the pump on it before and it does not seem like that this time. I think it has multiple organ failure
  20. My OH could do it but it's too heavy for me on my own. I think there may be a problem with the pump too as the tub is currently full of water and I can't get it to drain. I have turned it off at the power for the moment but I'll try to get it to drain again in a little while.
  21. How old was he when you got him compared to Pepi? This is a problem often seen in larger bird species as an attention seeking behaviour. It is most common in birds which have been handraised rather than co parented and is worse in chicks that are handraised on their own (without any clutch mates). Does he mainly do it when he is confined to his cage or when you are out of the room?
  22. I must say though, I bought it second hand 7 years ago for $50 and we only expected it to last a year or two so it's served us well. It's the thing that turns the tub (it's a toploader), the centre part is spinning but the tubs not moving and it's making a grinding noise. It's probably a belt or something but I'm not savvy enough to do anythig about it and OH isn't in Melbourne until August to look at it.
