  1. We believe it was EP. It did not appear septic so the decision was simply to watch carefully as she is feeding chicks. It is now beginning to reduce in size presumably as it is reabsorbed so all looks good .
  2. I would be taking the nest boxes out personally, shouldn't have nest boxes in an aviary if some birds are under a year old. Also, are your lovebirds still in the aviary? (just noticed your sig)
  3. That's what I figured, ah well, maybe I'll transfer a couple of pairs that get along well to the small aviary and try my luck with a small colony. Thanks Liv, sorry to hijack Jenene
  4. I'd like to breed some of my tiels but I'm guessing the cabinets would be a lot larger than budgie cabinets so I don't think I really have the space Would one of my 70cm long flight cages be big enough for a pair of tiels?
  5. Do you have colony breed or is it just a single pair? I have no idea whether tiels can be colony bred, just curious
  6. Deb you need to put a coloured split ring on one of their legs so you can easily tell the difference
  7. Just a question but given the bird is cinnamon could it have a dark factor which is being diluted by the cinny?
  8. If a breeder had two very similiar birds which were both good he might be happy to share one with a new comer to help[ them in their journey
  9. I would guess yellow face blue clearwing for Mochi. Also personally I would clip those last flight feathers off the wings, they just increase the chance of broken feathers if you ask me.
  10. James I notice you live in Guatamala so I was just wondering what sort of access you have to avian(bird) vets around you? Ideally she should see a vet as she will probably need antibiotics. In the meantime put a warm light(with a 20 watt globe) above her cage so she can stay warm, put it near one corner of the cage so she can move away from it if she gets too warm.
  11. At the age of three I used to tell my mum I wanted to be a naturalist Well now a naturalist is called an environmental scientist or a zoologist (or that sort of thing). So 22 years later I've just graduated from an envinmental science degree
  12. I am checking to make sure he is being fed atleast twice a day and more often when I am home during th day so hopefully I'll see before he has any major problems.
  13. It's amazing to see how mucch bigger they grow in just a week when you can compare them like that! It seems to be doing okay so far, there is always food in it's crop so we might be okay :hap:
  14. Not my parking thk :hap: I haven't got the car yet, it's in NSW with the OH and I have to wait for him to drive it down for me.
  15. I will be interested to see at what age it's eyes start to look black. It would be something you might not even notice if you weren't looking at chicks closley until they were older as the eyes may already be darker by then
  16. Has anyone had a single chick that was much younger than it's siblings? I have three in the nest at the moment, my first pair to lay (the others are still thinking about it ) There were five eggs but for some reason the third and fourth were clear but the first two and the last one were fertile. As a result I now have an 8 day old, a six day old and a one day old in my nest. As the others haven't layed yet I don't have a foster with small chicks unfortunately. Will this little one be okay? He has food in his crop at the moment but I still worry about him being crowded out and missing out on feeds. Has anyone had a similar situation and what was the outcome?
  17. Heaps Kaz, he's getting the towball installed this week so I can tow a trailer full too That picture makes her look like she's got a fat nose Side view
  18. Check out my new baby! My last car was a 25 year old mazda 626 so this is a dream come true Hubby got it for me so I won't have to drive his old junker anymore
  19. And the verdict is......a DF spangle! It definately has plum eyes, they have just opened in the last couple of days and it is still very pink skinned, no dark flecks starting under the skin to indicate dark pin feathers(it's younger brother has these so will be blue . Also no colour on the beak, which all the coloured babies from these parents have had. This one will have a forever home with me The last baby hatched but I'm a little worried about how much smaller it is, although it des have food in it's crop so fingers crossed.
  20. I use a low table(like a lamp table) to keep it close to the ground but high enough to discourage mice, make sure it is away from the aviary wire orthey'll just climb the wire to get to it anyway. In my other aviary I have the feed dishes on a cocky stand
  21. You don't need to strip the bark off, just break off a few twigs as you're walking past nex time. Bue will chew on the bark on the twigs
  22. I'm not necessarily that fussed about the natural look. They seem more inclined to fly than the show birds so I was more thinking about giving them a bit more space to move. They have come out of an aviary so they are used to having room to fly.
  23. It was willow branches, probably easy to find if you have any creeks nearby
  24. okay then YF1 vioet normal :budgiedance:
  25. He's a yellow face type 1 cobalt normal (maybe violet but hard to tell fro photo)
