  1. Just candled the last three eggs, one fertile two clear. The fertile one looked like it was still atleast a few days off hatching and going by my lay dates I would say it will hatch on about the 28th. That will make it around a week younger than the youngest of the other two, will it have any issues because i's so much smaller?
  2. I can see the YF on the fourth baby photo Neat
  3. okay, I figured that, I can house them with the other birds then I just need to give them a good rest on heir own before I give hem a nest box to ensure that any chicks do belong to the wild cock. I wasn't sure if their was some sort of temperament reason for housing them seperately.
  4. Best wedding present ever Oh, and the OH, he won't even notice a few more budgies Besides I sold 6 ast weekend so even with newbies I'll still be down on original numbers
  5. Even if it is septic pretty much the answer is antibiotics. I spoke to the vet earlier and he basically said he would probably treat it as though it was septic and give her some antibiotics and see how she goes. Surgery is an option on larger birds but is very difficult on a small bird like a budgie as it is very hard to get rid of all the egg material if it has spread into their abdomen. The surgery carries almost as much risk as simply treating with drugs and hoping for the best.
  6. Other than a bit of a layer of fat over the top he is in good nick. I can JUST feel his keel bone under the softer fat on the top and I can feel a nice layer of more solid fat and muscle around his keel bone (if that makes sense at all). Once he burns off some of that excess fat just undr the skin I think he'll be fine. Neat the guy gave him to me and I do love him so I'm willing to give him a chance at getting back ino shape again.
  7. I'm going to see the vet tomorrow. The reality is that there isn't a whole lot you can do abou egg peritonitis anyway other then antibiotics so chances are we will just put her on some and it will either clear up if it's an egg or it won't change if it's a fat deposit.
  8. It only appeared all of a sudden a few weeks ago so I doubt it.
  9. No, he has tail feathers but they are all broken at the moment from him landing bum first
  10. I'll shall wait nervously now until we get feathers
  11. Her eggs are currently hatching SW, she has two babies already and three eggs layed over two weeks ago which may or may not hatch (ateast one is overdue for hatching). I suspect this may have been the sixth egg in the clutch which didn't obviously get layed and since she has probably had it for a couple of weeks that bodes well for her simply reabsorbing it. I don't have another paur with eggs or chicks at the moment unfortunately as none of the others have layed She has a definate soft yellow deposit inside the skin above her vent and she is still doing giant egg poops, she has lost some feathers but that may just be nesting.
  12. It sounds like there isn't a whole lot that can be done really other than general health and wellbeing. I'm pretty sure this is what it is as I can see the yellow of the yolk under her skin however at this stage I don't believe it is septic. She has ceased laying now as she is feeding her chicks so I don't need to worry about her trying to lay again until her chicks get a little older. I'm going to speak to my vet about some prophylactic antibiotics incase there is any bacteria starting in there. She is being kept warm and seems healthy at the moment so we'll see how she goes. These guys are the first ones to lay so I don't have a foster for the chicks at the moment unfortunately but once the chicks are a littl older I'll take her out and leave dad to it. No more clutches for this girl I think. Taken from : http://www.parrotsociety.org.au/articles/a...#Ectopic%20Eggs
  13. Also maybe if she is mainly bonded to you put her in a box and get someone else to tend to that pair if you can so that she doesn't see you much, that way you can try and keep her focused on her budgie partner.
  14. Thanks Lisa peritonitis is what I was thinking of, now I can google it
  15. I tried searching but I can't think of any other possible search terms other than 'egg' whioch it won't let me search for since it only has three letters.
  16. Gosh it will be great when I have a car with a towball, we bought one yesterday, now it's just got to arrive
  17. I think it would be a trailer job. When I moved my double one it barely fit in my car and that was only one not four.
  18. I'm worried my hen with chicks might have this, she's been looking very scruffy since laying her last clutch but I thought maybe she was pulling feathers from her chest for in the nest. I've noticed she still looks like she has egg bum even though I can't feel an egg with gentle palpation. I recall someone talking about a condition where an egg is reabsorbed and can end up as an infection in the body cavity. Can anyone tell me what it was called, I just want to investigate symptoms, treatment options etc so I can rule it out (hopefully) She isn't obviously sickly but if it could be this I'd like to nip it in the bud before it gets bad.
  19. I won't be able to fit them in my car and I won't have a towball until the weekend of the 8th. We might have to speak to them and see if we can pay for them now and then pick them up in a couple of weeks.
  20. The ones on ebay goose
  21. How are they? Whenever is fine. Are we winning those breeding boxes as I might use one for quarantine
