  1. I would cover his cage up for longer if possibleas hat may make a difference. If you can't cover his cage for longer you can put him in a room with the blinds closed and a light on a timer to turn on (if you have o leave for work at a certain time, etc)
  2. Assuming he isn't split, you would get green series chicks split for blue. If he is split you would likely get some green and some blue series
  3. The funniset thing was watching the little bloke trying to chat up the big english hen AV got from the same breeder, it was like a chihuahua trying to get amorous with a great dane
  4. I am limitted a little with my cage options but I've chosen a cage that is nearly twice as large. They are captive bred birds so they aren't hugely flighty around humans so I don;t need to worry about freaking them out but I'll put some vegetation in the corners to make it nice for them. They are so tiny, like little budgie mini me's
  5. Any thoughts on whether a pair of tiny wild budgies would need more or less than your standard amount of space for breeding? I'm thinking that they are built for flight (unlike our 'corrupted english budgies ) so maybe I should give thema slightly larger cage to breed in? Thoughts??
  6. CAKE OR BED A HUSBAND IS AT HOME WATCHING A FOOTBALL GAME WHEN HIS WIFE INTERRUPTS, HONEY, COULD YOU FIX THE LIGHT IN THE HALLWAY? IT'S BEEN FLICKERING FOR WEEKS NOW. HE LOOKS AT HER AND SAYS ANGRILY, FIX THE LIGHTS NOW? DOES IT LOOK LIKE I HAVE ENERGEX WRITTEN ON MY FOREHEAD? I DON'T THINK SO. FINE, THEN THE WIFE ASKS, WELL THEN, COULD YOU FIX THE FRIDGE DOOR? IT WON'T CLOSE RIGHT TO WHICH HE REPLIED, FIX THE FRIDGE DOOR? DOES IT LOOK LIKE I HAVE WESTINGHOUSE WRITTEN ON MY FOREHEAD? I DON'T THINK SO FINE, SHE SAYS THEN YOU COULD AT LEAST FIX THE STEPS TO THE FRONT DOOR? THEY ARE ABOUT TO BREAK I'M NOT A CARPENTER AND I DON'T WANT TO FIX STEPS HE SAYS, DOES IT LOOK LIKE I HAVE BUNNINGS WRITTEN ON MY FOREHEAD? I DON'T THINK SO I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOU. I'M GOING TO THE PUB!!!! SO HE GOES TO THE PUB AND DRINKS FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS.................... HE STARTS TO FEEL GUILTY ABOUT HOW HE TREATED HIS WIFE, AND DECIDES TO GO HOME AS HE WALKS INTO THE HOUSE HE NOTICES THAT THE STEPS ARE ALREADY FIXED. AS HE ENTERS THE HOUSE , HE SEES THE HALL LIGHT IS WORKING AS HE GOES TO GET A BEER, HE NOTICES THE FRIDGE DOOR IS FIXED. HONEY, HE ASKS, HOW'D ALL THIS GET FIXED? SHE SAID, WELL, WHEN YOU LEFT I SAT OUTSIDE AND CRIED JUST THEN A NICE YOUNG MAN ASKED ME WHAT WAS WRONG, AND I TOLD HIM. HE OFFERED TO DO ALL THE REPAIRS, AND ALL I HAD TO DO WAS EITHER GO TO BED WITH HIM OR BAKE A CAKE. HE SAID, SO WHAT KIND OF CAKE DID YOU BAKE? SHE REPLIED, HELLOOOOO.. DO YOU SEE SARA LEE WRITTEN ON MY FOREHEAD? I DON'T THINK SO!
  7. Chryso empty your PM box
  8. They can start laying as early as when the chicks are four weeks
  9. If he is six weeks old he doesn't really need it. You can out a cut down shoebox or icecream container in the bottom of the cage for him to sit in to give him some security while he adjusts.
  10. Take the nest box away, she might lay an egg or two off the perch but she'll settle down
  11. Has anyone else noticed we are having the same discussion over colour in this thread and the one about the bird AV got me. They are almost identical in colouring!
  12. No idea, but personally I'm trying to get a hold of either of those mutations so I think I'd take it anyway
  13. As long as you leave them out in the sun to dry and air ot until the smell is pretty much gone they'll be fine We used to use stringer chemicals than that to disinfect at he vet clinic I worked at
  14. Have a great time and if anything happens while you are away and your parents need someone to take over then you know where to find us
  15. While we are on pairs I have some good news regarding the first BBBP pair (the grey hen with ricketts with the black mark and a VERY dirty opaline cock). I was holding a nest box at one of the doors on the new breeding cage trying to work out the best way to attach it and she took one look at it and sidled over and tried o get into it, the cock is also feeding her and smooching all over her so I hink she'll have a good go at breeding for us. Gonna pluck their vents this aro and put a box on for them
  16. I PROMISE he's blue, AV you gotta get a better piccy You're always having t argue this point!
  17. I remember her and I'm pretty sure she's a mauve isn't she, he's a greywing going by the throat spots
  18. okay, then repeat everything I just said but it's recessive pied I have both in my aviary so I couldn't really remmeber what that one was. Also the cock may be greywing from recollection but AV can confirm that
  19. Searching memory bank here. I think HeMan and Shera are a YF2 cobalt and a YF2 cobalt dom pied cinnamon opaline
  20. I'm coming, that would be cool I'm bidding on some show cages on ebay
  21. It's very dark then, maybe YF 2 mauve?
  22. I suppose it only really needs to be a successful mating in their minds
  23. If there are lots of chicks I hold them two at a time (six chicks means only 30mins), my chicks are inside the house though so I don't have that same trouble. Also my oldest son is happy to be on chick holding duty and will sit quietly and hold one while watching TV, etc
  24. I wouldn't leave her for that long, we have inside birds plus dogs and the birds get used to them very quickly. Since they have a tiel I would imagine that the dogs are used to seeing the bird and don't bark at it or anything so it should be fine. If your parents have any problems give me a shout, Bennie is welcome at my place. He can stay in my bedroom where he is seperate from the other birds.
  25. It would be really interesting if we all put our badly suffused birds ith a recessive pied mate to see whether we got pied chicks
