  1. She is just the only one I have to show the colour, at the club there were opalines with this same colour.
  2. We had a whole other thread going on him. Because of a combination of his eye colour, cheeks spots, foot colour and a few other things the general consensus was that he was DF spangle and was possibly masking pied which was suffused through his feathers. I have him down to breed with a nice spangle hen now so we'll be able to work out more once we have some chicks from him. Given your chick shows the same colour through the feathers it will be interesting to see what we get out of him.
  3. Yes his chest is green
  4. I'm a little confused and I'm hoping some of you here can help me. I have a birds in my aviary which are what is called violet such as this one: In this case the coloured is definately overlayed onto a cobalt background. However at the last club night birds were classed as violet which were the same colour as my scruffy little hen : In this case the violet seems to occur on it's own with no blue colouring behind it. Can anyone tell me how I can get more the same colour as her?
  5. My lorikeet willl bath under her dripper bottle She has worked out how to press her back onto it so the water runs out
  6. Ozzie: http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x259/er...ax/DSC00772.jpg
  7. Interesting Libby, that bodes well for my chick then. We can use my little one a test case to confirm. I also have Ozzie who is a DF spangle but has the same suffusion across the chest as yours Deb
  8. I'll see if I can find out which species we have here as garden plants and post some photosof them Do you have a full list from that site?
  9. Mine love wattle and grevillea, some of their favorites. Probably depends on the species as to whether they like it. Those species arefrom overseas where they have to contend with large herbivores ( think Giraffe in Africa). A few of them are now in Aus as garden plants but the vast majority of species here are fine.
  10. nOT LAST NIGHT AT THE CLUB, LAST CLUB NIGHT (AS IN LAST MONTH )Aaaarrghhh caps lock
  11. Weird! At any rate after discussion with memebrs here i have put a male down to breed at 8 months. If the hen was eight months I'd be worried but if he's doing a good job I don't see any real issue.
  12. It's cool, I am interested from the perspective of workikng out what mine are anyway
  13. Actually Elly given that that post was done in December that would make Morgan over a year old. Lizzie may be a little on the older side but if she is healthy and coping well I would have chosen now as the best time to breed them before she got any older and now that Morgan is just old enough. Good luck Sofia
  14. Parents are both spangles, no visible indication that either has cinnimon or anything else so if it turns out to be a cinnimon chick then my boy must be split for it.
  15. He is beautiful, spangle is my favourite mutation, I'm on to my second spangle clutch for this year and I have a hen alot like yours who I hope will breed for me soon.
  16. Hey AV I missed this when I first read your post, can you explain to me how that would be different to any other time you've visited?
  17. Not sure whether it dulls them Elly, I just feel the bright colours give the spangles a bit more 'wow factor'. As the person tutoring the newbies at the last club night said there is something to be said for being able breed a bird that stands out on the show bench and pretty colours like pure violet and aqua always catch the eye, which might mean that the judges eye lingers just that little bit longer on your bird.
  18. Bright green/bright blue, either way I'm trying to avoid mauves/ grey greens in my spangles.
  19. Don't worry Kaz if my OH's move to Perth works out AV and I will come and help you out with soe of those excess birds
  20. Damn, now I'll have to wait and see. The chick in question is only about four days old but those eyes seem to be a few shades lighter than the other chicks and you can see the pupil very bright under the skin, does that sound like plum?
  21. Oh and just food for thought because honestly I would be thrilled with whatever you get I love the bright coloured spangles like him and my bright skyblue boy so if it comes down to a choice between a bight blue or green and a grey green or grey go the bright one
  22. I was hoping I would get a DF spangle out of my last clutch but no such luck. Just pulled my two new chicks out of the box and I'm pretty sure one has plum eyes, does that mean DF spangle? I hope so, if it does that one will be staying with me
  23. You had to know I would read it when you said I wasn't allowed I actually really like the greens at the moment so a green or blue would be fine as I will always get some green babies anyway even if he is split for blue. And yes see my topic that I am about to write with regard to my opinion on DF spangles
