Do Some Of The Darker Colours 'moult In'
But why is half of him grey and half blue then, shouldn't his colour be even?

Do Some Of The Darker Colours 'moult In'
He is definately not mauve. The grey areas are grey, not mauve, the blue areas are blue, other than on his rump the two don't meet..

But a blue bird still won't turn grey when it moults!

Do Some Of The Darker Colours 'moult In'
I picked this ittle guy up the other day as he caught my eye due to his strange colouring. He is blotchy. He clearly has a blue (looks to be cobalt in his light patches) but then the rest of him is grey , particularly on his rump where he is a deep slate blue grey. As you can hopefully see in the photo on his chest there are some patches where the blue areas are. He is definately not mauve, the camera makes him look bluer as it tends to, in real life he looks nearly dark grey but with a blue tinge. He isn't a baby, has his iris rings, nearly a year old I think so I don't think any more colour is going to develop. Before anyone asks he is a grey wing not cinnamon Piccy might help :hap:

The Night Of Living Terror
Wow AV! I was reading that thinking Oh my god I did cut his foot bad! It was a relief when I realised it wasn't anything I had done but also very scary for Boof! I hope he recovers quickly.

Rings
Unless you know whether they were early or late 07 birds you would be best to atleast wait a couple of months to increase the likelihood that they are atleast a year old. If you want to breed your 04 hen you could try her this year but she's really at her limit, I have an 04 hen I plan to breed this year and then not again.

Pity it's so expensive to fly Elly, or I would happily swap with you

The Black Budgie
You do see a lot of natural variation in the darkness and also the speed at which it clears. My last clutch was only two babies, both identical (blue spangles). The one that went to a lady I know had a cap which had started to recede by the time it was 5 weeks old but the other one still had stripes to its brow when it went to AV last week and it was always darker than the other. As with all these now we have to play the waiting game and see how it turns out, fingers crossed.

Freezing Soft Food
Nah, I don't feel the need to freeze, my birds don't get it anyway. I just wanted to do my wet mix, boiled egss, chicken crumble, egg n' biscuit, carrot, apple and a bit of water to moisten, then freeze.

Offspring Questions
In birds sex linked is the opposite to humans. A hen is XY and a cock is XX. So if a hen has albino on her X gene then it will be visible as she doesn't have another X to cancel it out but a male must have both X genes carryin the sex linked trait for it to show up.

Rings
You can always check yourself as it actually says the year on the ring. There will be two numbersor a symbol then a number which are at right angles to the rest of the writing. This is the year (eg. diamond 7 +2007 or 99 + 1999)

Jake's Beak
Rod I believe he was attacked by another budgie. Can we have an 'after' photo Deb to see how he's going

The New Ladies Of The House
Personally I think the greys are quite pretty. Maybe I'm crazy too
-
What Can I Expect?
It depends if your greys are split for anything but if we assume they aren't then grey is dominant so you would get greys if the greens are split blue and greens. If the albino was a cock and the grey was a hen you could get albino hens.

My Budgies Are Grandparents...
That egg may be fertile, they can store sperm for quite a while. Personally I would go and visit your aunt in the next few days and wait till she's out of the room and give the egg a good shake to make sure nothing comes of it.

Freezing Soft Food

Freezing Soft Food
I am considering making my soft food up in larger batches and freezing it in ice block trays as I am very busy with my job, kids, wedding, etc and i would be great to be able to just pop a couple of blocks into dishes and let them defrost or give them frozen in summer. Has anyone tried this? Is there anything that I shouldn't include in my soft food if I wanted to freeze it?

Breeding Room
I wish my place wasn't rented, my new garage set up is going to look like a dungeon compared to yours!

Some of us should organise a home trade some time. That way we would each get free accomodation in another part of Aus(or the world!) and we would be assurred of someone who would take care of our pets the way we would want them too.

Breeding Room
We mail ordered them from JJ's Aviaries in Sydney, he couriered them down to us. I also have a set off three cages which are the next size up, plus we got Coop cups and plastic nest boxes from him too. AV do you want me to ask on freecycle for a screen door for you? If you do just let me know what size your door is.

Egg Smashing Hen?
Myabe try her again later, she may just not be ready emotiona;ly. Better to stop her now rather than letting her get into a habit that could last forever.
