  1. I hope things go well with the bank and that house looks great, plently of space so hope it turns out to be in good condition for you.
  2. I will tell her that Auntie Elly said to behave herself, seeing she does not like the personal contact with other budgies Merlin is probaby just her type. It is so strange having a budgie that loved cuddling up to me and now she does not want me to touch her.
  3. Roxy has starting to get cranky at me, she does not bite but gives me a cranky chirp when i put my hand in the cage. She still set ups but when i go to scratch her on the neck and top of the head which she normally loves she does a angry chirp. She is showing no signs of moulting but can they get hormonal before they start moulting? Or because she is feeding herself now and not relying on me at night to give her soft food could she be trying to break her bond with me, like young budgies leaving the nest? Roxy is normally a very placid budgie so i am confused at her sudden change in behaviour.

Roxy has been great today with eating , i have had to blow the husks of her seed a few times today because she is always eating. I have also noticed that her feathers are starting to look better, she used to have a scruffy look to her but today i noticed she is looking better. Even hubby made a comment that she is looking different. I was going to take pics but camera battery is flat. she still spend more time throwing her vegies out of her container then eating them but i am excited that she is still interested in her seed.
  5. You have some beautiful birds Dave, glad to see you have found some more.
  6. It seems to take a few days, i put baits out on saturday and found they had eaten all the bait on Monday but i did not find a dead mouse until today at the front of the aviary.

Roxy has finally done it , she is weaned. At lunchtime i noticed that she had eaten most of her seed and rearing mix so i emptied the container out and decided to just give her seed and see what she would do. All afternoon and tonight she has been eating the seed and i sit on the lounge next to her and can hear her husking seeds which is a rare sound to come from her cage. Her poos are starting to look normal now and not like a baby budgies poo. It has been a very slow progress but it looks like we have finally got there. I just hope she does not go back to her old habits. My little girl has become a real budgie. Thank you to all the members who have given me great support and advice while i have been battling with my stubborn Roxy.

What a pain, hope you get some soon. i was surprised that the cheap Woolies traps worked but half of mine were babies. I even caught 2 in one trap once.

No signs of any mice last night so hopefully seeing i cleaned their hiding place they have disappeared.
  10. i have not really sure of her age, i think about 3 years old. i got given her and she has been like it since i got her. she was making nests in her quarantine cage. she was doing it before daylight saving started so how early would i have to cover her up. Would she stress if i seperate her from her mate, i got them as a pair and they hang around in the aviary together and do not mix with the other budgies at all.

okay thanks for your help, i will make sure on the hot days i clean the aviary before i hose them.
  12. I have a hen that is laying eggs in the aviary, there is nothing in the aviary she can use as a nestbox so she is just dropping them in the sand on the floor. She had a clutch in May and is a bad mother so i do not want to breed from her but is there anything i can do to stop her from laying. i am worried it could be not good for her health to be producing eggs as much as she does. She and her mate are very close so i thought about seperating them but then they would still be able to hear each other because my 2 aviaries are next to each other. Is there anything i can do to stop her?
  13. Sorry to hear about the loss of your budgie, hope the female manages to look after the babies by herself.

The weekend was hot and the budgies were sitting with their wings out so i hosed them to cool them down but the sand on the base got wet. I have read on the forum that bacterias breed in damp environments so is it okay for the sand to get wet or not?

We have finally made some progress, I have been adding the rearing mix to her seed and have tried this before and normally she eats the mix and leaves the seed behind but this time once she has ate all the rearing mix she starts eating the seed. Today i saw her husking the seed and i look at her container and it had heaps of husks in it, i have never seen husks in her container before.
  16. Congratulations on the air con, my kids really appreciate mine.

Took me and my son 1 1/2 hours this afternoon to clean up under the trees, there was alot of branches to trim and heaps of leaves to rake . While we were cleaning saw 2 mice and my son managed to tread on one and killed it. 10 mice dead now.

There is alot of broken sticks and dead leaves under the trees but they sit so low to the ground that is hard to get under them. It might be time to do some trimmimg.

Got another one, count is 9 now. I have noticed that when i scared them they are running into the bushes behind my aviary so i say that is where they are living as well so i have put baits under the bushes.
  20. What a pain that you did not catch any, hope you get them. I am glad i have dumb mice.

I notice last week that the sand seem to be disappearing from a gap between my bricks on the base and then the next day i saw a mouse running around the outside of the aviary. On the weekend i filled in the gap and went to Woolies and grab some traps. I am just using peanut butter and plastic traps and so far i have caught 8 so it was not just one mouse, a whole family has taken up resident under the aviary. I know they are not getting into the aviary because none of the sand on the base has been moved. I have also put baits out so hopefully i can get rid of them all. They are so game that they are even coming out during the day, on sunday morning i was sitting watching the budgies and saw a mouse come out from a pile of bricks i have stored near the aviary and i watched it got to the trap and get caught, it was a great sight to see.
  22. They are a beautiful pair, hope you get some great results from them.

She has millet in her cage but she does not touch it. I have tried adding seed to her mix but she used to pick the rearing food out and leave the seed behind so i stopped adding it but i will try Kaz,s suggestion and see how she goes.

I was wondering how long does it usually take for this seed tapping method to work? i have been doing it with Roxy and she still just sits on the table and husks a couple of seeds but that is all and then when she is in her cage does not touch her seed at all. i stopped giving her soft food a couple of day ago and was hoping if she got hungry she would eat the seed but it is not working. All she is doing is picking the egg out of the vegies to eat. Her poos went watery today because she is hardly eating so i have had to give her rearing food and as soon as i opened the cage she jumped out and landed on the container and started eating.
