Changing Roxy's Food
she is still being cranky, when i put my hand in her cage she makes a angry chatter at me but i find if i just slowly move my hand towards her and talk softly to her she will sometimes settle down and step up and let me scratch her. Once she is out of her cage she is fine, she only gets cranky when she is in her cage. She is starting to moult so the change of diet i would say has help her to finally start.

Hen Wil Not Stop Laying
I rang up the only avian vet around me and was talking to the receptionist about the hen. I got told that there are injections but she would have to go once a week for a few weeks to try a few different types to see what worked for her. I am not sure if i want to put her through all that. She also informed me the reason some hens are very fertile is because there diet is too good so i should stop giving her seed and vegies and put her on just pellets. I will not be doing that. what is it about vets promoting a all pellet diet? i am going to try putting her by herself and cover her early at night and she if that helps.

Baby Hen Cannot Fly
She is regrowing them which is good. What can cause budgies to remain flightless. When Dave was visiting me he mentioned that if some budgies are small their wings are not strong enough to lift them off ground.

Baby Hen Cannot Fly
I have noticed that my young hen cannot fly, she flutters her wings but cannot lift herself off the ground. I have only just noticed because i went to move her out of quarantine and into the aviary. It looks like she is missing some flight feathers from both wings, i have no idea when or how it happen. she has never shown any signs of hurting herslef and i never saw feathers in her cage. She was not like it when i got her so it has somehow happened while she has been in quarantine. I am wondering if the amount she is missing is enough to stop her from flying or could there be another reason? she is healthy and been wormed.

I would go with a dark colour if you get alot of dust from the mines at your place.

Photos Of My Boys
Thanks everyone, i think they are very handsome boys as well but they still are not good enough for Roxy. At free play time she will not play with the boys at all, she loves to sit on the playgym and when they try to climb up near her she knocks them off the playgym.

Photos Of My Boys
I have been spending so much time with Roxy that my 2 inside boys have not been getting as much attention. Roxy did not want to come near me this morning so i chatted to the boys instead and took some photos of them. They have both just fnished moulting and are looking very handsome. Runt, reminds me of Santa with his big white fluffy face. Tweety, after every moult his chest colour goes a brighter green, i think he is also getting a little chubby. They were not impressed with me trying to make them sit together for a photo.

Native Garden
Thanks, that is a great article. I used to have alot of native birds around but then the miner birds moved in and chased all the native birds away. Banksias would be nice, do budgies like to eat the branches. My budgies do not like wattle.

Hen Wil Not Stop Laying
I might ring a avian vet and talk to them, she has been like it since i got her. She is Roxys mum so there is no way i will ever breed with her again.

Native Garden
Hubby has a bad back so me and my 13 year old son did it. I like going and working around the house, it takes my mind of other things for awhile.

Hen Wil Not Stop Laying
She is showing no signs of tiredness, she is very healthy. She is the hen who just makes a nest anywhere so i think she will still do it even if i move her. Is there anything you can give hens to reduce their hormone levels so they are not interested in breeding.

Native Garden
I forgot to take pics before i pull the tree out but i have photos of the mess i have to get rid of now. i manage to get the stump out but still have another one to remove and the crype mrytle and the other tall plant have got to come out yet and then i can start replanting. All the branches i cut of the tree and the stump i had fun digging out.

Roxy Is Gettting Cranky
What i have noticed that her feathers used to look scruffy and fluffed up but since she has gone on seed she has a smoother look to her but she still has alot of frayed feathers but i am hoping that will improve now her diet has. This is a picture from a couple of weeks ago. This is pics from this morning

Native Garden
I cut down the big one with purple flowers in front of the kids cubby house, it has thorns and the kids are always getting them in their feet from broken branches. Mike has already bought me one callistemon to plant. Buying a book sounds a great idea MB, i will check the net for it.

Native Garden
I have decided to redo my gardens so i am removing all my old plants and trees and making a native garden. Yesterday i cut down a 4 metre tree and now i have the fun job of getting the stump out. I am going to put some bottle brushes in because my budgies love them but i am wondering if anyone else has some ideas of what other native plants that budgies like. I already have greviallas and my budgies do not seem to like eucalyptus at all. The garden is also going to be in back yard so i am trying to think of plants that are also pretty to look at. At the moment i have shrubs and grown covers that do not flower much so they are all going.
