  1. I was very boring and just used a shorter version of my name which is Deborah
  2. They are cute bubs
  3. I still think it is very weird looking Kaz
  4. I hope these pairs all go well for you and you get more show babies this time.
  5. Thanks Elly and Maesie for your help. Last night i put my hand in the cage with millet on it and she would eat the millet from my hand but would not get on my hand but what was interesting was i had my face near the door of her cage quickly talking to her and she would come to the door and give me kisses. It is not me that she is afraid of but my hand. Hubby last night also put his hand near the cage while she was in it and she squarked at him but then he puts his face to talk to her and she came to him and was kissing him through the bars of the cage.
  6. The hardest and upsetting thing is that she was so tame and bonded to me when i was feeding her soft food and as soon as i got her eating seed she changed. Before i weaned her i could pick her up and take her out of her cage and she would snuggle up in my hand to have a sleep.
  7. That is okay then, if you keep a eye on ebay you can sometimes see some there for sale and it will give you a idea of prices secondhand ones sell at. If you google breeding cages on the net there are few websites like jj avairies that sell them.
  8. I can already tell that the eldest two are recessive....you can see the different coloured splotches on the wings and back even before pin feathers come in. I will take some pictures tomorrow to show. okay so where are pics? i would love to see the early signs that show you have a pied in the nestbox. Sorry Deb...have to go visit my father in law in hospital. I will patiently wait for pics then Hope your father in law is okay and it is nothing serious.

  10. With Roxy moulting at the moment whenever i put my hand in the cage to try to get her to step up she squarks at me, would i be better waiting for her to finish her moult before i try to retrain her. Or try using millet?
  11. It is good to hear you are making progress with JellyBean. When you are getting JellyBean onto your hand with food also say "step up" so he will eventually learn to response to the command and not food. There is a great article called Taming Budgies on the forum which Elly has mentioned earlier in this topic which will give you all the training advice you need.
  12. Probably a silly question but i am wondering do the parents notice when you take chicks away from them or they seem to forget how many they have?
  13. You are right Elly they are not cuddly but I just thought that because Roxy was very affectionate when she was a baby being raised by me she would be different but as she has got older and weaned the natural budgie behaviour has kicked in. By having to handraise a budgie by herself i have learnt that if does not make them any taming then one that was parent raised and trained.
  14. Thanks Elly for your advice, it is interesting how much a budgie changes when they are weaned. When i was feeding Roxy i could put my hand in the cage and she loved being pick up and would set up but as soon as she did not need to rely on me anymore for food she has become independent and now i have to train her all over again. moulting is probably not helping either.
  15. i am sorry to hear about your husband, my prayers and thoughts are with you.
  16. Sometimes Roxy does not want to step up so i pick her up and take her out of her cage , am i better off leaving her in her cage if she will not setup. i do not want to just leave the door open and she come out when she wants to. i want her to learn to come out only when i take her out.
  17. Great news, at what age do they feather up enough for you to tell if you got recessive pieds.
  18. Roxy is moulting so i understand it changes their personality and they get cranky. Roxy when she is in her cage squarks at you if you put your hand near her and if i tried to scratch her while she is in the cage she squarks and does a biting action but never bites but when she is out of her cage she is alot more placid and likes her neck scratch and gives me kisses. It is like Jekyl and Hyde, why is she one way in her cage and different out of her cage? Up until she started moulting i soon as i opened her cage door she would come to me but now when i open her door she goes to the back perch.
  19. She is very beautiful, i love the photo of her asleep.
  20. That is so cute. Roxy hated waiting for food she used to try to climb out of the container if i took too long.
  21. I am sorry if this sounds like i am being too nosey but why are you looking for a breeding cage. i have seen photos of your beautiful new boy Cookie and he is too young to breed with yet and you mentioned that Bluebell was not well in a post before.
  22. You were right MB, i am terrified of any lizards i see in my backyard but i have warmed up to Sandy and even been holding him.
  23. Just thought i would update, i have had great results from moving her. The hen got moved 10 days ago to a cage and she had a egg bum when i moved her so she laid a egg that day but has not layed anymore. She is very happy in the cage and has not been calling for her mate at all. I will reintroduce her into the avairy when she is out of breeding condition but in a different aviary to her partner.
  24. That is funny, i might have to try it for my overweight cat when my torch arrives.
