Sounds to me like you might need to hand raise this one

Fallows, lacewings and clear bodies (but I could add to that list) lol......oh AND yellow face blue clearwings (oops I just did!)
  5. From what I understand, it is okay to breed a younger cock to an experienced hen, because it certainly isnt as physically taxing on his body like it would be on a young hen. I think I would give it a go myself, its her health you need to look after and you dont often hear of cocks abandoning clutches, its usually the hens!
  6. Good luck Liv! The are a lovely looking pair and I hope when the time comes they have babies for you I have had various results with my cabinet breeding so far, but I have to admit to being impatient and messing with some couples. A couple of hens I put down were 07 birds, but then I got cold feet with them cause I dont know when in 07 they were bred, so I am erring on the side of caution and keeping them longer out in the aviary to make sure they are mature enough. My success couple so far, were brought in from the aviary and we know that story so far. Another couple were brought in from the aviary 3 weeks ago with eggs and she hasnt left her eggs, but she only had one baby hatch in her last clutch and I am thinking these eggs are infertile mostly, though one is rather grey so I am thinking it has gone bad. I did put in 2 fosters yesterday from my last nest box in the aviary, so I could take it down and stop that hen breeding and finally free up my big flight aviary! However, one pair I have put down that I am excited about seemed to not bond so much, but were okay with each other for a few days, but I have seen him feeding her recently and she's very eager, she spends a lot of time in her box and I came home from work tonight and she has one egg They have been together about 2 weeks. Good luck and I hope you have more patience than me! LOL

I have found the easiest way to cope with poopy feet, if the hen wont leave nesting materials in the box, is to just do a 5 minute check of them all every day and pick off the small amounts that are stuck, that way you dont have to do the whole soaking process and take them away from their box for long amounts of time. I used to bring all the chicks of one pair in every so often and use warm water and cooking oil and soak it off and use a cotton bud to pry/soak off the poo. It's tedious and stressful to all involved, when someone pointed out to me "I just brush/pick it off every day". Makes the job much easier. Your chickies are lil cuties by the way

LOL yes well thats the reason we are staying away from galahs, corellas and sulphies, one big noise maker for us is enough. It's bad enough that my quaker does her impression of the sun as well!

Yeah, but that was my guess and three is a good number

They are definitely noisey. I wouldnt actually recommend them to anyone who didnt have lots of love and attention and who cant switch off from their screeching. But, on the other hand, if you can deal with the noise, they are certainly an affectionate, beautiful bird, with lots of weird quirks lol. Morris screams for attention, or when I have visitors, or at meal times, cause he likes to share and that doesnt happen very often. If that is the case, I usually cover him, which still doesnt work all the time, but my friends realise........love me, love my birds!

I just thought I would show off some new piccies of Saffy and Morris. They were out in the kitchen keeping me company while I did my dishes and after the dishes, I pulled out Saffy's favourite "swimming pool" and offered her a bath. She dived right in as always, but Morris wasnt so keen to participate in the bathing part of things, so he just flew to the top of the pantry door to observe. So Saff had her bath, then flew up to join Morris and finish her preening and he looked less than impressed with that "wet birdie" smell! Saffy jumps in Shake it all about Saff! Look at me, I'm so adorable! I think I'll just finish of up here next to my mate Morris........wait! Is he turning his beak up at me??? Fine! You go over there and I'll just finish beautifying over here!

Ditto to FGM's post. I was really wishing and hoping you would get your place, specially as you could see yourself living there. I hope you didnt get it because there is something even better in the pipeline for you Good luck with your hunt! :hap:

  16. Thanks for posting the pics Kaz. They are fantastic. Such gorgeous birds!
  17. It's a really nice feeling anytime you connect with your "wild" budgies hehe :hap:
  18. I was out in the aviary just a few minutes ago, checking my last clutch out there and giving one of the babies a cuddle that has just fledged. My gorgeous clearwing, Harrison, has done this before, but no others has followed. He runs over to my feet when I am standing still and nibbles on my shoes! Today, I stopped and let him have a good play, being quite amused myself and his girlfriend Sparkles decided to join in on the play too. They were on top of my shoes, chewing my laces and the trim on the shoes and nibbling at the bottom of my pants. Before, long others wanted to play too and some of them were actually squabbling a little and vying for position!! It was the funniest thing. One of them was on top of my foot when I decided to move.........carefully. I lifted my foot slowly and put it a step in front. He just went along for the ride. Harrison and Sparkles decided they would hitch a ride with my left foot! When I decided to leave the aviary, I made sure they had all flown off and I moved my feet too quickly for them to want to chase them. I'm going to take the camera out next time and see if I can get piccies. My budgies wont land on me, but they will play with my feet :hap:
  19. Thanks for the pics Daz, there are some amazing birds and amazing price tags! I kinda met Peter Glassonbury at the auction I went to a few weeks ago, well didnt meet as such, but saw him. He ran the first half of the auction. He later outbid me on a hen I was interested in. I bid against him a few times, but there is no way Im gonna win against someone like him if he wants the bird! lol
  20. Welcome back guys. Sounds like you had a blast, cant wait to see your piccies

    Cute piccie
  22. I started with pets and still love their colours and have kept too many for their colours alone and am anticipating breeding from "my own" girls when they mature. I have recently collected a few really lovely show types and I look forward to seeing the results from breeding the two together. I dont feel I want to concentrate on breeding really big fluffy show birds yet, but certainly bringing up the size of my pets is the challenge I am interested in - Totally addictive!
  23. Thanks for the infor Derek. As uninterested as I thought I was in show birds, I find myself becoming increasingly interested!
  24. Congrats Ikon. Piccies!

Congrats on your eggs Deb I have 3 more pairs down too. One was brought in from the aviary with her mate and 6 eggs and she has been sitting ever since, but she only had one baby out of her last six, so I'm not sure how fertile she is. The other two are new boys with hens I have already bred from and these hens love to breed. My lutino has been in and out of the box for the last week, but I only just noticed a little flirting with her fella this morning. The other pair I just put down yesterday and she is already investigating the box too. These are girls I had originally when I started breeding and they just had small types to breed with. I have put them with slightly bigger "nicer" cocks this time, so fingers crossed. I guess these two pair are my first "selective" breeding
